Gaz
After a good few months of seeing this on trademe I thought I better at least check it out. Rawked all way to AK and had a gander over her. Body is rock solid with NO rust and has been paneled at some stage since off the road. Still needs a tad more in places. Firewall set back aprox 300mm Turreted rear end which shall make way for coil overs. Has had a roll cage in it at some point but unfortunatly been removed. And as you can see it has those huge ass mofo gaurds that have grown on me in the last 6 months. Oh yeah, almost forgot the tyres on the rear. Lol @ 245/50/14 eagers. At least the front is rocking some sweet 225 Ggrids. Anyways here are some pics of it back at the old mans in Rotorua before itll make its way to Wellytown. One at a time of course. Gaz
The front valence needs some work to bring up straight but other than that little bog is needed. Roof even straight by the looks
Gaz
Here is the inside where floor and tunnel have been moded. After ive test fitted the Ca i'll see what can be cut out. There isnt much room around pedals to play heel toes. The rear turrets are solid as but possiably not big enough for coil overs.. Still, a good start. You can also see where the old cage attatched. Gaz
2l that is supposedly pretty fresh and slighly war. Prob not as warm as a ca18det so out it can come...
Gaz
Cut and welded firewall wall. Slightly to large cut IMO. Brand new tie rod ends and lower arms. Also brand new nolothanes everywhere. All underbody has been striped and painted black. Sway bar and struts etc also painted.
Gaz
Under rear ' Up in the gaurd has given way more room. Should be able to rock some huge works rims up there. Im going to have lunch, more pics in
Gaz
The outer wedge of the inner gaurd has been cut out and a new peice formed that goes straight out to the edge of the body. This was where my old mk1 scraped when low so am stoked this part has already been done for me. I think I shall do the same with the inner edge you can see also to avoid any rub.. I guess this is mini tubbing? Car came with a few spears also.. Doors, heaps of glass. 2 grilles one in good condition. A straight bumper but its pitted. 6 dial gauge plus the special dash pad for use with this, spear box, rear parcel tray... just heaps of shit I prob wont use. Gaz
And the wheels. 14inchers.. dunno what width rears but they seem wide. Fronts have a tad less dish but still some. Not really my cup of tea but they ok. Tyres way to ballon stz. Hopefully I can get a few $$$ back for the Eagers
Gaz
So yeah thats it. First thing to do is sand back all the surface rust and repaint. Think matt tank green. Yellow or maybe olive drab star on doors. Then ill try get the 2l in it running and sell it. As soon as thats out the ca can be dummied in with box etc. After that the hilux rear can be sorted with coilovers setup and im thinking 5 link rear. Guess it sounds easier than it is. (as always). Gaz
Also like this rim done by Arrow, am gonna ring for quote now. best part is that it is local (being in NZ). They do it in sizes: 15" & 16" 4" to 16" Wide Prices = 15x8 = $2835 15x9 = $3250 16x8 = $3350 16x9 = $3450 Think these all a tad expensive for me right now! Anyways got them here for reference
Gaz
Also got a ca18det manifold on the way from US. Big thanks to Nick (Mk1mad) for hooking me up postage etc from US. Also me and Chris are prob going to start working on sanding her back soon. Going to be either matt forest green or Olive Drab for now. Either way will have a clear coat over it to protect from oily hand marks. Engine in it is no trademe at mo for anyone interested. Full 2l conversion kit inc engine, gbox, exhaust and rad. Gaz
Pulled engine out this arvo.. Cheers Chris & Pip (Mk2eightu or something like that) Got a way closer inspection of everything while doing the first bit of real work on the car. Found a few bits that need fixing and a small amount of rust here and there which needs patching, nothing major. May have a prob with the flares, unsure yet.. It was/is high as a kite all round. I thought it must just have some kinda rally rocketship high suspension. After pulling the struts out I see they are cut springs and held captive with special ties. If they are cut that much then they should be low or at least lower. Hope the gaurds havnt been put on super dooper high for clearance or something hence making it look high. Anyways.. pics of nothing really.
Gaz
Also LOL @ person who painted the struts that blue colour. Should have been oxide red FTW
Gaz
Ok so before winter gets here car needs paint. So this weekend we started the prep. Spend ALOT of time running round shops getting some materials etc but then dug in with Chris and Pip. The car is already pretty straight just surface rust had come through in places so has had to be taken back to bare metal. Got a fair chunk of work done but prob need to pick up the pace if we want to paint by next weekend. Will prob do some welding 2moro to get rid of door locks, bonet leter holes and fix a bit of rust. Also measured width or rear rims on car. Almost 10 inch wide edge to edge so im gusing 14x9's Might even run them repainted with diff profile tyre on them till I sort my other shit. Here are some pretty boring pics..
Gaz
More prep + shaved boot, bonet, and door locks. Also... Found rust.. In spare wheel well. Its ok, I dont like the peice that hangs down under body that you can see from the side. So I cut it out and a mate bent a peice up to go back in. Tommorow Chris and I will finish it off and weld it in.
