sholdowa
You should only need a single cooler unless you're putting out huge power - in which case, using Sierra cosworth / RS500 cooling seems to be the most popular. I used to use a single one about 15 x 6 inches, mounted to the side of the rad. And yes, use a high capacity pump... much more important than high pressure, which has been known to unsettle big end bearings. Can handle the times when the sump baffles don't do their job better. sholdowa
That's about twice the size of the one I used to run on mine, but can't really omment without knowing the engine.

sholdowa
can you not put wings on what's left of the sump? You usually have space away from the starter motor.
Gaz
Or one of the falcon filters fit and holds twice the volumn.
excort
i could fit wings on it but if i can bolt on a oil cooler and a bigger oil filter it will be alot easier and i get the added bonus of oil cooling id say one bigish one would be anuf would get at least another ltr with the oil cooler and hose's
sholdowa
I might be able to help you with a sump. Bloke reckoned it came off a mk. 2, but I'm not so sure. Steel with an extra wing welded on. If you're up for it, you're welcome to try. I've bought an alloy RS2000 one instead. You've got to take it off to upgrade your oip pump anyway I used to use a Renault 5 filter on my x-flow. It was really small, never got damaged, and made for loads of space. You needed to change it quite often, though, and I did run a cooler with that. Gaz
Does an oil cooler stay full all the time? Just thinking about each time you start engine the oil cooler fills up before the engine parts are lubed for a few seconds. Or does it stay primed? Or does it stay primed? stay primed, seening as most cunts mount them with lines at top = no drain back. building pressure up in them = another story
RT
dont' run 2 coolers... thats just silly. one is fine and even then if your motor is standard it's not a good idea. Use a falcon filter with a remote attachment.. and maybe one cooler depending on specs. That will get you another litre or more.

Gaz
Nah itll be sweet b03. Run falcon filter if worried. Easiest way is to wing sump, not hard really.

isnowi
if you are welding a sump it is better to use a TIG or even gas, mig is a lot more prone to inclusions, as you can never ever get all the oil out of the pores of the old sump metal. This is the one a i did for my ex, needed the bump to clear the main caps of the DOHC motor, it loooks a little rugged up close, but it holds water, and i will probably bronze the outside to ensure it is oil tight.
