Car = 1971 Morris 1300

Just seeing where you would recommend to go around South Auckland (don't want to venture far from central manukau as no WOF or reg) for the following work, and any rough prices I should be expecting as to not get ripped off, this is the only stuff left picked up in a WOF in friday:

:arrow: LH front door rusted - underside of the door has some rust spots, I don't have the time right now to tackle it myself so just going to get someone to do it, unsure if its just a grind/bog job or if weld job, got a panel beaters we use I am thinking of going to, but any suggestions of somewhere nice and cheap?

:arrow: RH Steering rack boot - has a tear, needs replacing, suggestions of where to go and rough costs?

:arrow: RHF Brake host - starting to perish, replacement part should be easy and where to go would be same place as the next problem:

:arrow: Rear brakes grabbing - rear left drum has warped, locks quite easily, need it machined out. Any suggestions of where to go, and prices involved? If its crazy expensive I might just see if I can get a second hand one

Any help would be awesome, cheers

GEDDES AUTOMOTIVE = :evil::evil::evil::evil:

Don't bother with them, we have had only troubles over the last 2 days with the Morris

They quote roughly that fixing rust will be between $80 and $150, they decide its now $280 and do it without asking us

The rear drums needed machining - they decided no they have rusted and we need new ones - $300. No, we had them off a few days ago and no rust at all and they are perfectly clean, so I managed to stop them before they did anything, and now they are just being wankers about the rest of it because I said no to them doing this part

Just called somebody that knows/deals with parts for the old BMC cars, they say they have NEVER heard of the rear drums rusting and when I said thats what we were told he said "well clean them"

Not happy, we said we would pick up the car this afternoon, now they are saying it won't be ready in time "because we mucked them around"... GET FUCKED I am going to be there at 4pm like I said to pick up the car

STEER WELL CLEAR :evil::evil::evil::evil:

RULE:

Dont take car in to get rust, panel or paint done before getting a written quote.

Almost every single place will do it then mark up if there was more work etc.

Panel, paint, rust removers ALWAYS under quote.

Personally I wouldve taken it to 2 seperare places in the first place,

A proper brake place like Stirling Clutch and Brake in Onehunga

Then a panel beater like Davies and Naylor in Onehunga too

I wouldve gone to Repco for a steering boot, I probably would have replaced both boots and both tie-rod ends, its very easy to do

And yes its too late now but you'll know for next time :x

Yea, we were initially going to take it to 2 seperate places, but me having very little spare time at the moment it was going to be very hard to organise, found this place that seemed to do everything so thought SWEET

We are now taking it to a brake/clutch specialist (told geddes to jam it where the sun dont shine basically)

This place just gets worse and worse, i called them MANY times today to arrange everything, and before midday (about 11:45 I think) I called and said ok I will be in at 4, will it be done, "yea thats fine you will probably just have to wait around for it to finish", so I turn up at 4, look at that, they have done some of the work, and the car is still in pieces, nope wont be finished till tomorrow, then blames me to taking "3/4 of a day to return the phone call", which was actually 2.5 hours, during which they told me they had already started everything anyway, plus plus plus plus, I can't be bothered with it, he got an ear full today and I ain't exactly being kind tomorrow

Thats really close to where the car is now, 300m or so, so might just pop in there once we got the car back and see what they say, cheers for that, much appreciated

We were going to go to Precision Brake and Clutch specialists out in Takanini. Where we took the car for a WOF (Critchleys in Takanini - they are big on BMC cars), recommended us that place when we called them today to ask something, but yea don't know anybody that have used them before, might just go to stirling instead

Just thought I would tidy this thread up with a good ending

Took it to Precision Brake and Clutch in Takanini - great place, awesome guys, good service. They did the following to the rear brakes:

Replace left rear brake shoe

Fit 2 new rear wheel cylinders

Machine brake drums both rear

Bleed brakes and test

All up charged for 1 hour labour and all over cost for basically semi-overhauled rear brakes for $217, passed its WOF resit no sweat

Gotta ask.....

Why did they only replace one brake shoe, typically they come as either a side set or an axle set, and to maintain even wear you replace them as a set.

I am not sure, I do know that the one they had replaces was munted, as in somebody had drilled it and tried cutting grooves in it and random shit like that, don't ask, it wasn't me :lol: But yea, I was only charged for one so I figure they only replaced 1, rear brakes are well balanced now, I seem to think maybe the right hand side was replaced recently? Not sure though
