Defcon
Get someone to turn the key for you and check it with a multimeter. See if its passing or even getting current. Def'
SYKOV6
check to see if the exciter wire has not come off the soleniod, its the small single wire that goes from the key to the soleniod

v3k
check contacts on battery, and starter. Corroded (or broken) terminals on a battery can give enough current to light dash - but not pass enough amps to turn starter. Other option is to take off starter and test solenoid with jumpers and a spanner
SYKOV6
if his mk2 is original the soleniod will b on the inner guard unless its a 70 or later then it will b on the starter
