peteretep
Comments and complaints to //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/18672-reteps-mk1/page-1?hl=retep Thought i'd put up some pics of my car and what i'll be doing to it. I'll just be putting in a 1600 from a mk2 cortina which is a 691 block instead of a 711 but it has been tested and it has been used in a few cars before getting reconditioned. I'll be putting a 32/36 on it for the moment but the last owner ran twin sidedraughts on it fine so that will be some thing for the future. It will be getting a 2 inch exhaust made for it by woolf mufflers for around $450 with coby extractors and 2 mufflers, with a pipe coming out the end, im not a fan of big cannons sticking out the back, just a 2 inch straight pipe . im also putting in a facet solid state fuel pump and a regulator. my genuine 13x6 minilites with 205/60r13 eagers, the tyres dont really give good traction but they look good, the white coming off the tosps of the G and the E are from when i put the tyres on and before the gaurds were cut and rolled so a bit of damage occured beforehand, ouch. picture of the engine to be going in, like the nice rocker cover aye aye notice the fuel pump already covered up, also my flywheel is drilled to fit an 8 inch clutch although the splines are for a standard escort gearbox, have been told it was from a escort van. another pic of the rocker cover picture of the clutch, good condition A shot of my old steering rack, even though it is hard to see, its pretty bent at the other end. i would have taken a pic of my new rack but i was so eager to get it in i forgot Current interior of my car, i'll do it up once i can be bothered getting the rust taken out of the floor - new carpet and a gauge or two and a new drivers seat, i dont care about the passenger at the moment. also i may be getting a larger steering wheel depending on how the new quick rack goes, i am looking at getting a cobra classic bucket seat from kendalls too but i need to come to terms with the price first Im hoping to repaint my engine bay when i change the engines over to the colour of toyotas blue that it has on the latest hilux, i see it as a 21st century version of my colour. Later the whole car may be painted but at the moment the cost of getting a good job done is too prohibitive and takes too long considering it is my only car and i dont want to ride my scooter everywhere I'll get a good picture of my car later. peteretep
I decided to lower my car by 2 inches, so it now has 45mm lower springs king springs for a capri in the front and the rear now has 6 leaves instead of the standard 4, 1 for 25% harder and the other for anti tramp(unnecessary, but oh well as I dont/wont have the power to need it particualrily) and the rear is also lowered 2 inches king springs courtesy of bmwsparkle, thanks alot Finished product, first drive there was a very noticable difference in handling, alot better. Sticks to the road so well now and no tyre squeel as you corner quickly and almost no body roll, very awesome Now to think about the engine...or should i put some new seats in first... Getting the rear leaves reset cost me 350 total(inc u bolts) in the end for a 45mm drop, 1 leaf for extra hardness and 1 for anti tramp. Also had to get some custom U-bolts made 3/4 inch longer than standard as the old ones wouldn't fit, I tried getting them from other places but they told me that cars need special strengthened ones and told me to go to snells springs to get them...same place as I had the leaves done. But im still glad I opted for reseting rather than blocks as im not looking for a cool look with no performance increase plus it looks better when you look under the car. old height
peteretep
ive just ordered some stuff form burtonpower.com. A pair of wilwood 4 pots with pads that are direct replacement for m16 calipers. A set of silicone hoses for water with stainless steel clips. An 80mm tacho oldschool style. A genuine K&N chrome filter, a couple of books and a video. and 2 1600gt badges. I think thats it so should be here before christmas, thinking about getting some adjustable strut tops added to the list as the are quite alot cheaper than in nz to my belief. peteretep
So I've decided to paint my whole car now, I'm going to take it apart to what is necessary then either sand it myself or find some bead blaster or whatever to do it. I won't take it back to bare metal though Then I'll take it to someone to patch the rust and maybe get the gaurds flared a little Then me and my dad will paint it FF blue and in the mean time I will have a go at refurbing some of the other rubbish Didn't find any obvious rust under here, was easy to take out with my dad on the outside and me pushing with my feet from the inside. I scraped around the inside and outside edges first to make it easier, just damaged a tiny bit of glass at the top, won't matter
peteretep
about 98% clear now, will finish off tomorrow, I'll try to get in touch with someone to bead blast it or whatever tomorrow. I've easily filled a 2 car garage with all the crap from this car
peteretep
painted it up all good, will give the grip a better clean tomorrow
