Hey i got a MkII esky and nearly spun out and crashed last night in the wet goin round a roundabout..then continued to have trouble taking off at traffic lights as my rear wheels wuld spin upon acceleration.i also get this wen its dry but not as severly as it was in the wet as this was my first real outing in wet weather.to me this is not good, bloody freaked me out.I have been told it may be that my diff head has locked causing both wheels to spin at the same time rather than 1 then the other...

what are ur thoughts if possible

it sounds like you have to much power. i recomend a downgrade to a dihatsu move, honda jazz or similar.

ok, so you think yo gots a locker. when you go round a corner does it understeer like a bitch and then as soon as you lose traction at the back snap oversteer?

ok, jack up your escort at the back, and spin one wheel. if the other spins in the oposide direction then you have a standard open diff. if they go the same way then you have an lsd or a locker. the idea of your escort having an lsd is not very likely. what kind of esky is it? 1600, 2lt pinto? driving with a locker on a windy bit of road is like pushing shit to the outside of a corner. usually when going round the corner the outside wheel travels faster as it has a lenghtier distance to travel. with a locker they both wanna go the same speed, therefore going straight till they loosed grip and you just hang it out to dry and drift it large.

hehe on a side note, me and a mate matt blacked his hiux, then we wanted to dump the suker. anyway we didnt get that far but we knew the lsd was worn. didnt take much of him holding and me spinning to brake it. lsds wear out people! esp after 300,000k lol.

Try expensive tyres if that doesnt work, will do a hell of a diffeance if you have cheap ones at the moment. The Dunlop DZ02G or DO1J are awsome tyres. They really a track tyre but are dot rated so road legal. Awsome traction but not much wear in them. Not too badly priced either as long as its not an everyday car are the best tyres.

Had a look under the car and turns out i think the Diff seal and universal seal have blown in my car and then also realised my cluth plate is nearly gone as the adjustment cable is almost completely gone.so the diff and universal are leaking oil like a bitch all over my driveway.not good, gonna have to fix that up.more bloody $$$ thanks for the comments so far tho and theres no way it can be too much power its only running a 1300 lol

v8 supercars and nz v8 tourers have locked diffs

ummm, are you sure? i think someone has been telling you porkie-pies. why spend all that money and then have a locker to hinder the turning ablility of the car. i think you mean they have LSDs.

The simple fact of the matters is that round-a-bouts,intersections & high traffic roads get a constant coating of oil & grease for various reasons when the roads are dry,Then when it rains it causes a very slipery surface. There are some areas that you get to know around your city that are always bad in the wet.(like the corner of Barbadoes & moorhouse at the bottom of the bridge in Chch)

The answer is to drive smoothly ( dont drop the clutch or accelerate to much or brake to hard) & be aware of the roads that look greasy.

I wont be as frank as saying learn to drive, but it sounds like you may not have too much experience on slippery roads.Like yesterday in the hail,My wifes Astina couldnt get any traction if I went above 1500 revs in the low gears. Its not power ,its just fuckin slippery.

Just put it down to a learning curve & be thankful no damage was done....We have all been there.

My advice: get used to it!

its pretty damn hard to avoid the rear sliding out a little when going round roundabouts but you get used... the main point here is take it slow, if you dont want to get sideways in the wet then drive slower round that corner or the roundabout, its the most effective way to cure your problem not to mention the cheapest!!

and watch out especially for multi lane corners/roundabouts... dont want to slide into a car along side you thats for sure..

soon enough you will love the way your car handles in the wet, getting your arse out is good and proper fun!

why dont u dickheads save it for the race track anyway, ihave no trouble on the roads untill i come across arse holes like u trying in vain to control your cars cos u dont know how to drive.i do alot of k's each week so i see it often, not to mention youre making people with modified cars look bad,or are u one of those people who dump diesel cos u drive such a sack of shit and its the only way u can get your jollies in it!

i dont care if the moderator moves or deletes this,i think this is a valid point as i feel it make the modified car movement look bad and that cant b good for us!

yep im sure. 4 2 main reasons 1- an lsd could never stand up to the punishment of a 600hp car weighing 1400kg a locker is far more reliable

2- that is why the supercars and tourers run so much front camber on the struts , with a locked diff you need the front tyres to bite to turn in. as u know a street car with a locked diff wont turn and will "push" in the corners. im sure that a few of you guys that know a bit about circuit racing will back me up on this

yeah i agree with escort power as far as getting used to your car handling is concerned but the getting used to getting sideways is stupid. there are only two places for that, the racetrack is one and an empty road with no traffic or pedestrians late at night or during the day when there is no chance of hurting anyone or their property is the other

I have my most fun drifting when i go to pick up the milk or whatever from the dairy by myself with noone around. Then there is none to show of to. Still escorts dont get very sideways at all before spinning round. Short wheelbase.,

i think a few people missed my point.. i wasnt encouraging him to go out and drift i was just explaining to him that most roundabouts are very slipperly and he has to get used to the rear sliding out unless you plan on going round the roundabout at 3.7kph

and go have your period elsewhere blown4
