  1. Your driving looks so much more chill now, apart from the end, where you went completely Ueo mad. Awesome stuff!
  2. Salutations, So I'm thinking of converting my R32 to Macpherson strut because of reasons, but how about I check it's okay before cutting the towers up ? Main concern is about cutting new mounting points for the struts, because as far as I'm aware cutting the strut tower is no bueno. Thoughts ? Few people have done it, most notably Driftworks, but nobody has done it to a street car. Not here, anyway: http://www.driftworks.com/blog/2010/06/the-driftworks-r32-suspension-conversion-explained/ That's a good photo of roughly where the new mounting points go. So, that's my main concern. The conversion is made up of S13 coilovers, knuckles, hubs, LCA, tie rods and tension rods. I'm told they all bolt straight up, and that the only thing to do is extend the swaybar mount. While I imagine that part of the job is okay, might as well list it and find out for sure. Cheers in advance.
  3. Already have Hardrace items front and rear, which they themselves have said WILL pass certification. I've kept all the paperwork in case they don't. Once I've done the rear guards I'l get an alignment but have them dial in as much front camber as possible to see if they stop thumping the strut towers. All good and well if that works, but because of the way the camber laws work in relation to Nissan's genius idea of no factory adjustment, I'm only good for about one degree, which is what it's at now, and is why it's fouling. Talked to the cert man about the situation. Took him a minute to understand the concept of double wishbone suspension ... Anyway, my only option is to buy aftermarket lower A-arms. Modifying the factory items is no bueno. Does anyone even make them? So I guess I'm in the market for an S13 front cut, if you's have got one going ...
  4. Thanks guys ! So I guess I should start updating this when I do something with it instead of once every six months ... Good news ! I finally got it off the ground and got another wheel on it ! It moves again !! Bad news . The SSR has copped a hit during the tyres shenanigans . Oh, any double wishbone friends out there have a solution to maxing them out ? I don't fancy cutting the strut towers, so I'm thinking about going to an shop and having the lower arm shortened. Anyone done this, or have a much easier solution ? (inb4 "raise the car")
  5. I know you're talking about the flat front left, but did you consider how skid-tacular you just sounded ?
  6. Big update to bump this thread from the bottom of the second page! So after getting an actual reason out of the cert mayne it became obvious pretty early on that the Teins wouldn't cut it. So after a lucky find I sold the Teins and bought these: Silk Road RM/A8's, two way adjustable, with 8kg/10kg springs. But as you can see it the photo the tophats let go because for whatever reason there wasn't anything holding them on ... I have no idea why. A little later on, it became obvious that this wasn't going to be a quick process so I set about buying another pair of 7J's so I had a set and they'd write "15x7J F&R" on the cert plate. However, Y!JP can have a certain effect on a man... FRP R32 GT-R front lip. It was cheap and I couldn't help myself. I went a bit mad at this point and bought a Hakosuka wing from our very own Parts For Sale, and a C10 Skyline badge. Anyway, I did buy another pair of 7J's, a pair of zero offset SSR Formula Mesh. Rad. After a couple of weeks I got a letter saying they were "infested with live spiders" and were held at customs. Un-rad. And I hate spiders. Anyway, easy fix, and got them within the same week: Got some cheap Bridgestones, 195/50R15's again. Why cheap? Because the guy couldn't get the jack under my car. Yeeeeeeeeee... And that brings it about where it's at now. Wheels on the car, car on the floor, A-arms fouling against the strut towers. Oh, not quite. The front left tyre decided it wasn't a tyre any more, and this is where it sits until I find enough planks to drive it on to get the jack under it ... Yeah...
  7. "Man, I dailied it around 50mm higher and destroyed the whole underside of the car." It suddenly seems like I might be overdoing it. Are your A-arms still playing ball at MOER LAOW hieght ?
  8. Yeah, City Mechanical seems to be the go. I've been a few times and they've been good to me. I can confirm they're low-car friendly, but I've seen one or two of Dunedins most famous oldschool cars there when I've been, so I dare say they can handle old cars too.
  9. Blue sandwiched between chrome looks uhmazing in the last pic. Like...velvet and silver, or some luxurious shit. Props.
  10. That's a pretty sharp incentive to find you some 10kg springs ! What rates / lengths do you have sitting around for swapsies ?
  11. Tyres all sussed, took the keeper springs off the front and put them on the rear, lowered the car, took photos. It always manages to look tall in photos, and the sidewalls do too. Oh well.
  12. Big yes for this monthly, next one will be sweet if all the in-progress cars break cover then !
  13. Still no car, so I'm on here instead. Super keen for this on the regs ! Have a good one, guys.
  14. Hey internet, it's been a while. Got this pair of SSR Formula Mesh, 15x7JJ +13, and 195/50 Bridgestone MY01. Good thing the coilovers are still up high, or I'd shred the tyres! Once I eliminate the silly lip on the inside of the guard and lower it more they'll tuck in nicely. Aside from these, all my money has gone / going to certification, warrant etc. Only other thing I bought is a pair of 185/55's for the front, which are still my old Bridgestone meshies. Change of plans, too. After seeing how these sit, I'll aim for a low offest pair of SSR mesh in 15x6.5, and transfer the 185's to them. That should sit plenty good.
  15. Quit doing powerskids, you hoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon.
  16. With your history of lowering cars with MS Paint I found it hard to believe that you actually lowered your car, in real life, with suspension modifications. However, I'm not sure you could be arsed to make the buildings and posts line up in those snaps, so congratulations! It looks awesome, not sky-high, not hollafresh, just purposful. Second photo is cool as, Wat's look really good.
  17. Hey, cheers. Sounds like you found a nice example to start on, and it also sounds like you're embarking on a serious build! Your 34 sounds interesting too. "Big, unusable power"? Figures like "one-thousand" come to mind. You got threads for either? Yeah, previous owner had some connection to a Nissan dealer and took them off a GTS-t. Definetly keeping them for now, until I come up with something else to do exterior-wise. Hmm, tidy? Well, it's all there. Dash is lifting between the vents, you can see it a little in the Nardi picture. Stereo - shifter surround ( I can only dream of being high-society enough to have climate control ) is broken down the bottom. Again, previous owner. Did a totally rad sound system, and it seems he did the install and wiring by himself. I'll be repairing / replacing all the damaged things when I find myself a regular source of income. I read a little about non-projectors for GTR's when I was looking into them for mine. Seems like a bit of a mission! I don't know to be honest, but I wouldn't see why they would be. Haha, I never would've figured a Legnum was the solution! They look really good though. Cheers for the link, pretty cool indeed.
  18. Little update. My new lights got here, and I put them in today. Main lights work but I need to move the sidelight wiring from the outside to the inside, and I need to align the whole lot. As for now though, I'm pretty happy with the result!
  19. I'm not sure. Any way to check without removing tyres? That's super lame about your C33, man. That was probably the cleanest showroom-spec one I've ever seen. lolwat Well, you know how older showcars with big sound systems had a million speakers, all set into a big plastic case that was meant to look like a big tribal design or a spider or whatever? Just the covers on them reminded me of that kind of thing. I dunno, whatever. Yeah, that's me. I'll be going down there for the last time on the 30th. So you're the guy on the corner? I saw you chillin' in the boot of the Triumph the other week. Oh, car things! That happened, and I'm buying some 'brick' headlights and a new electric window switch, so I can see at night and whoever's riding shotgun can feel the summer breeze or window ride or something.
  20. Thanks, I've had a few comments from classmates so I'm not doing bad. Finished with school, so I'll be driving it to and from the big wide world now. Oh, yeah. Fusions are speakers. The kind of early-00's show-car things you can get at Repco. I think you can understand why they're gone now! Hey, cheers. Yeah, hopefully we'll end up reclaiming 32's from the boy-racer crowd someday! Yours looks good, I've been unsure about de-spoilering them but yours does it really well. Your mates EG looks pretty serious, too. Where are you based? I'll most likely stay N/A, and see how far it can go. I'm just enjoying the RB20DE as is right now, but if I was hunting for more power I'd like to build the RB20 fairly seriously before thinking about a bigger RB. I like how it revs pretty high, and how it really starts pushing when you get high up in the rev range, so I'll stick with it a while longer, for sure.
  21. Hey all, Bought this from Invergiggle over three years ago now, and it's been my faithful daily since. How faithful? It's just about to tick over 250,000km, and 40,000km are my doing. It's been good to me. My intentions were and still are to go drifting with it, and I have a little, but I'd really like to have a syakoutan-ish car. I guess I'm aiming for a cross of the two. Base spec, it's pretty good. RB20DE, manual, factory VLSD, non-HICAS and most importantly, it has the optional rear windscreen wiper! Previous owner had installed some go-fast guages, some Fusions and some "cool mags". Upon further inspection, the spare wheel was a 14" steelie which, judging by the wear, seems to have served as what the kids call a "skid rim", so the car's past life is a little questionable, but I'd like to think I've rescued it from being continually treated as such. Modifications, I've spent most of my time and money undoing the boy-racer type stuff. The Fusions and the guages went, as did the wheels. I picked up some 15" Bridgestone meshies, with a full set of centrecaps, for $230. The guy also gave me a 15" steelie with a newish Bridgestone tyre, so I now have a spare I can actually use. I also bought a leather Nardi wheel, which is nice to drive with. That got it to about where it is in this pic: Yes, you're absoloubly right! It is too tall! To remedy this, I saved enough to buy some Tein Type HA coilovers, and I installed them last week. Got all excited and drove it straight away, and it rode like a pogo stick. I jokingly said it felt like the dampers were set to zero. Got home, and they were actually set to zero. I played with the set-up for a while, and now it rides as well as when it was factory, apart from the random drops in the road are more felt. Oh well. Went up to Karitane the other day and snapped these: The Nardi: And a trendy shot when my Ranger stickers got here: Next up I'm planning on either wider wheels or spacers and new tyres, and then wind the coilovers down some more. Maybe later on a GT-R front bumper, and some smaller things like some box speakers for the parcel shelf. Aside from that I'll just keep driving it to school ( Soon to be Polytechnic, hopefully. That, or a job.) and maintaining it.
