Hey guys. Guessing this is the best place to ask a few carpaint related questions. I recently spent 3k getting a car fully resprayed, and (to my ignorance bought it through grab one) ws told it will be a 5.5k paint job. Since i got it back i have found that there are 6 runs, you can see through 80% of the car sanding marks, there is orange peel, the paint is flaking, lots of spots have been missed, including one whole jam.... paint is bubbling on the boot... new dents appered on my bonnet.... i diddnt expect a mirror finish in no way, but i wasnt expecting it to be worse than when i took it in. I have taken it back to remedy it, but they have only fixed one part each time, (taken it back 3 times, will be going back on the 4th). The last time i went back, they gave me a pot of paint and told me if i found something to fix it my self. but i found even more wrong, called up and he finaly said i could take it in for him to 'look at'. Do i have rights as a consumer for a shit job? i have all my recepts for it, and was told it was a full panel and paint including primer, but the paint is peeling to no primer. Any sugestions? quick off topic question (sorry!) but correct me if im wrong but don't all a3as come as a 2pce welded? did you get them re-barreled?? only reason i ask is ive got a set coming from japan and am wanting to get them widened.

weooooow. forgot about this. so as of about 2 weeks ago the em-ech-5 got certified! was a whole mission to do it, but glad its all done. not much has been done to the car, just some minor stuff while i drive the hell out of it, i love this car! for extrah HP i added some go fast purple bits! still undecided on the tow hook, but i am planning on doing some track days so will come in handy me thinks. DIY door pulls, so now i can sit comfortably in the car without the old ones taking up so much space. also, fire extinguisher for more cool points. i made the gear stick as a joke, but its here to stay! so comfy. time for some actual engine parts now, as well as hardtop, lips, and ducktail spoiler. word.

damn, this is all kinds of epic, wish i had your skills man!!! so jealous!

pictureless update time!!! went in to vtnz today before my cert tomorrow (FUCCKIINNGGG finaly!!!) and most was ok, just a little bit of rust, headlights, but one thing PISSED me off. my cars chassis rails were set at a acceptable 35-40mm of the ground, and vtnz went on and on about it, then they told me it wouldent fit over there pit as it was too low, so i had to drive home, jack it up to a disgusting 70mm high! (WTF) and then drive it back. passed everything except what it needs cert, will update with cert, and new plans!! cheers

cert time, do it once, do it right. although i was winning a bid on a supercharger for it, so thats going on the back burner till its all certed up, shes my daily, so i need her back on the road asap!

snoozin, i dont rember seeing anyone wave, ive seen you in your datsun occasionally out in mt welly, that things sick. and id never get rid of the soft top. progress today was sweet!!!! The Cars rear window got pushed in by some hood rats a few days ago, so i restitched it up, oil change again after 2400ks, runs mint now. i spent close on 6hours doing a wash, cut, polish, buff, cut, polish, buff, wax, buff, wax, buff.... well worth it, looks new! photos dont really do it justice! beach bandits. cheers.

as soon as i find one thats not stupid money!! really? i was wating to get my halfcage that day and the guy was taking ages, was angry... but i dont rember being waved at!! were you in your datsun? nope! it sits real high, but the rear bars arnt actly bolted in yet, i have to drop out my fuel tank to get to the part where it goes in, so at the moment, super cbf, and its half in which works for me

cheers guys! daily height is sweet, the chassis is pretty high on this thing, so it dosnt scrape that much, just speedbumps! (i like on a road with them, not so much fun). im trying to get extended top-hats so i can wind the bcs all the way down, then it will become interesting

thought id post up a build thread of this stunner of a red mx5. bought her stock off a friend when i discovered my rx30 cressida was nothing but rust (shes still siting in my driveway!) only pics of her i have stock. just after buying it after i bought it i painted the wheels black, took off the spoiler, oh and put in these bc-golds Note: rape face. i had a set of wheels intended for the cressida, but i thought i may aswell put them on the mx5, since i hate my cressida now... had to get 20mm spacers/adaptors from 100x4 to 114x4, was a bit of a mish to do it, had to grind down my original wheel studs, and had to make bolts to fit it properly, drove it to precision wheels from west auckland with 2 bolts holding it on as i diddnt have a tool to tighten them , not fun! all of this done within three weeks of owning it then this is how she sat. went for a cruse, mad rubbing, but so much fun to drive lol got stalked at work! came home, loged on to facebook, and hey presto, its my car! haha got bored and made a sleepy eye kit for it. rolled my guards, lowerd it a bit more, got ajustible camber arms for it, racing mirrors, roll cage new leads (made such a diffrence to the power!) and this is how it looks now, (for those eagle eyes out there, yes that is a vette, and holyjesus was it tidy.) Plans for now are hardtop, new exhaust getting made up very soon for this, then will move onto some engine work, possibly turbo or supercharge it, just for a bit of difference, and will start taking this to track days etc... hope you guys dont hate this car too much any advice/ help would be awesome!

yeah will be certed pretty quick, so it wont effect getting a cert if i do it cut them down? cheers for the advice, did not want to start hacking away without being sure! also anyone got any way of cutting them down without destroying thread (will put bolts on before cutting to reduce thread molestation) but hacksaw or angle grinder? cheers

so i bought 4x100 to 4x114 hub adaptors, (20mm) all went well untill i put them on and bolted them up, and i noticed that my wheel studs sit out a few mm of the adaptor (bolt on). they are in a recess but they sit just past it and when i try to put the wheel on they just hit it, now im wondering what the best soloution is? can i cut them down a few mm, or is that just being stupid? am i able to get shortend ones from anywhere? anyone else had this experiance? thanks!

as the title says, ive started pulling my car apart more and more... and oh god is it in a sorry state so much rust, ive cut out most of it, and the worst was in the rear, behind the bumper (on a 1980 cressida). so as its so close to the gas tank im a bit worried to weld near it, as id rather not die in a ball of flames, so im wondering if i could use fiberglass to replace the rusty panels? ive made up a few bumpers back in the day, but that was for a silvia, so its a bit different, im just wondering what the pros and cons are and if any ones done it before and can give some advice? or even advice about welding so close to the gas tank? much thanks!!!

ive allready bought the wheels, they look kinda like truck wheels, hard to explain, prob gunna get heaps of hate but im just wanting something a bit different, theres a fastback on meshwheels which is sorta my influence i guess. looks lush.

thought id chuck this up, get some love/hate going, and HEAPS OF ADVICE... lets just set the mood. 2010- i was laughing at my friend saying how shit owning a euro like him would be,and how awesome owning a s14 silvia and being all DROPUSASKID like me was 2011-move to canada, come back. then we fast forward to now.... oh shi..... gave her a clean, and got a wee bit carried away with the stickers. bored, got heaps of shit done to the motor,spark plugs, re timed, all that shizz, got all the suspension done, still SO BOUNCY. new window winders got heaps of rust removed, wof and CHEAP REGO soooo good! also put a euro plate i brought over with me from Holland when i went ages ago in the window, kinda dumb, but i like it decided to do carpet, and dash, got halfway through then all the cans of dye ranout, and repco cant get anymore in, sooooo half black carpet FTW i chucked in a head deck as well, looking all nice, but wont turn on with the car otherwise it runs the battery dry, so had to make up a switch for it, one of the old style flick switch, in the dash, looks pretty good. MASAVE cracks in the dash are filled up with this plastic putty stuff, but it shrunk heaps so need to re do it. got some wheels in the post as i type, 8' on the rear 6' on the front, have NO CLUE how these will fit as i get rub with the stock wheels, but il make it fit, get some hurra-frush treatment. so love and/or hate me here viewtopic.php?f=18&t=31329
