  1. If moving it from fathers day is too much of a problem, maybe we could all con our Dads into coming on a 'lovely family cruise'?
  2. I'd be keen if my Mini is going by then. But I'm not making any promises
  3. Alternatively, we could drive through the Waitaks, and end up at Bethells beach, and nom on some scrumptious burgers there...
  4. So the porting would just make it run shit on an 1100?
  5. Yeah, I would most likely get elec ignition, just for the extra reliability, so I don't have to Bus to Uni any more! And I'm sick of points causing problems. And I'm lazy.
  6. BP isn't ethanol, is it? The one close to home just got 98, so I don't have to travel very far at all for it now! 'Cos I'm a lazy bugger
  7. OK, so If I cant find a suitable, cheap twin carb setup, I will probably get a 1 3/4 SU from a Metro. Would anyone happen to have one of those laying around?
  8. The strombergs I was looking at are for a 1275 Mini, so they're out
  9. Yeah, that would be my next choice...
  10. Hmmm... anyone got some cheap twin SU's laying around? But seriously, does anyone?
  11. Haha yeah, I had to stop myself from laughing at him while he was talking. But I'm paranoid, do I though I would ask What are stromberg carbs like?
  12. I wanted to run my Mini on twin carbs when I get the 1100 engine in, so that I could get more power (combined with diff. cam, head work etc). But I talked to the Mini specialist garage, and the guy said that due to today's crap fuel (different octane rating everytime you fill up, and fuel sits around for ages before actually being pumped into your car), the twin carbs would cause problems, and pretty much need to be tuned everytime you fill up with fuel. Is this really true? Does anyone else have running issues with twin carbs? All help appreciated. Chur!
  13. I recommend joining a club. You can go way more places, and will always be in the loop re law changes etc. My brother is the Vice President of Norwest OHV Club, and my whole family have been members since it was started. There are members ranging from young to old, and we're a relatively friendly bunch of buggers PM if you wanna know more about it
  14. Right, so I've decided to go for the 1100, and tune it up a bit (machined head, different cam, bigger exhaust/manifolds etc). I have talked to several people about the 1100's and they all praise them quite a bit - My Dad had an 1100, and he used to thrash it around Kaiwaka/Maungaturoto, and it never missed a beat. - He had a 2 1/2 inch exhaust, with a straight though tractor muffler too - My Dad's ex wife's neighbour had a mate with an 1100 Mini, and they spend basically a whole weekend with it around the coromandel, on the rev limiter the whole time. He said it eventually blew up, but lasted waaaay longer than they all expected. So basically, if I get it to a reasonable state of tune, and don't thrash it over SH16 too much, it should be sweet
  15. Are you in a 4wd club? It's cheaper to go into Woodhill if your truck is decent and you are in a club (safety patrol)
  16. What carpet colour do you think would suit the car? http://www.lemansautofabrics.co.nz/carp ... ilton.html I'm sorta heading towards red... Just to be bold
  17. 240? What 240? All I can see is a MEAN Patrol. But to tell the truth, I kinda like the stickers look. But a little more subtle than that...
  18. Hmm... Meh, idk. I just want it going now tbh
  19. The 1100 is inevitable - we have a Clubman with a dyno-tuned 1100 waiting for the conversion. As you may have seen in my signature, I don't have many funds...
  20. Build here: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/30252-sp450andles-austin-mini-1000-le/#entry782359 Discuss away...
  21. Discussion here: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/30253-sp450andles-austin-mini-1000-le/ Well, this is my Mini Build. It’s a 1976 Austin Mini 1000 LE, in pimento red. The interior is almost standard, except I have replaced the front seats with some better condition ones from a later LE (I still have the standard ones), and have fitted arm rests from a Renault r12, and a custom-painted steering wheel (pretty shoddy, tbh) The engine is slightly tuned, with a free flow manifold and rather large exhaust… The body is getting rough, with some pretty dodgy paint touch-ups, and quite a few dents, along with a little bit of rust here and there – some nice patina. But it still shines like a shiny thing… Future plans: Install 1100 engine, because the old one is tired and in need of a resto Paint up the 4.5x10” Cooper S Reverse steelies in Old English White, and fit these to them: http://www.minisport... ... 032RS.html Do the interior up in Old English white with pimento details (piping etc). Maybe a different colour carpet to break it up a little. I will most likely re-con 2nd hand interior parts to keep cost down. Eventually a repaint in the standard colour scheme LOWER IT Fit Old English White retro roof racks Fit black bonnet (possibly fibreglass) with scoop and a different badge (watch this space…) Possibly fit wheel arches – either group 2 or something custom made… And that’s about it. Basically, I only want to do things that can still allow the car to be returned to original – i.e. I will keep all original interior etc. Piccies: Chur
  22. It does indeed. I think that was $700 well spent
  23. From the short test drive I did, it seems to go ok. It'll probably be WAY better when it is running right. And yeah, standard 'box, transfer case etc. I might make one of the super-low-range t/c's one day...
