  1. Hmmmmmmm crossroads point here, My brother has a floor change an its alot funner to drive, but then again if I stick to the column change I can have the bench seat filled easily? I'm not to worried about cert at this stage 200$ for original cortina mk2 floor change box 50$ clutch n flywheel 40$ pedal box 50$ master an slave (need recon-which ive never done before) or 285$ for a automatic box? Opinions and thoughts please!? I'm definitely no expert on this mechanical stuff but I have done waterpumps an some minor repairs before... Do you think this is a do able conversion for someone whos learning? I have a manual an a friend whos pretty on to it as well Perhaps I could put on a bbq an get some oldschoolers around to lend hand/drink beer/eat food?
  2. Your not the first to tell me that. How much do engine/gearbox mounts cost to get made up?
  3. ok thanks, if anyone knows of one for sale let me know please
  4. gearbox in parts in the boot now drove it there fine but had dropped reverse, was charged a rather large sum of money for them to do that to lol. Well I don't know weither to try get a manual floor change or replace the existing box? What do you guys think? and if I went manual would it be better to go 4 speed or 5 speed? I know of a guy who thinks he has one but hes not replying to my pms I know these borgwarner35 trans were also used in falcons but im not sure of the difference and weither or not compatible with the column change cortina ? Anyone know? What should I do ?
  5. Just curious if 2000$ to rebuild a 40year old borgwarner 35 transmission is realistic? Does anyone know someone in chch who would do it for cheaper? I'm considering anything atm getting abit unhappy with it just sitting in the driveway can anyone shed some light on why I have been quoted such a huge amount?
  6. pm me if you haven't sorted it yet I live about 5mins away
  7. il give you a megasquirt if you stimulator my jimstim
  8. Has anyone tried this? http://www.pixelmatic.com.au/cortina/ar ... rting.html
  9. haha almost seems to good to be true but he uses upto 8 coats an sands each one smooth so could take a while. but no spraying is a bonus
  10. have you got $50? http://www.rickwrench.com/index79master ... paint.html
  11. im loving the pics you posted on build thread.and that paint choice is mint! although I like that sorta ratrod/old classic condition look to!
  12. I also need to do this before i get under there to take on the huge repairs coming my way
  13. yeap thats the next option, he quoted me 1200$ to do that just about spat coffee in his face, hes a good mechanic but no way am I paying him 1200 to replace a box haha. I can do it myself but I didn't want to have the hassle but looks like il need to now .I mean shit I was quoted 400$ to change a 4wd box in a wrx sti, thats a much harder box to change than a automatic cortina box.Abit pissed I even brought it to him really I know he would have done a good job an all but 400$ to remove a box an open it up..... The way I see it those auto trans a crap an cant handle any sorta of power or load, so logically it'd be better to waste money converting it to a manual than replacing or rebuilding the auto. But then if im converting it to manual the cost would be fairly high. And if im going to spend any big amounts of money on it I may as well begin the conversion I want to do in the future. plus the 1600 crossflow should fetch me 500 off my costs as well Was having a look on trademe an those sr20de packages are only 1200-2000$
  14. fark Just got charged 415$ for 5 hours labor for auto trans company to take out my box open it up an diagnose the fault.then tried to sell me a 1900 rebuild. I could practically convert to a sr20de for that sorta money. very upsetting as now my car doesn't even drive at all an effectively is useless gutted
  15. hmmmm will have to have a look when i pick up from auto trans place. they got the box out an gona see if its repairable and what sorta costs involved.its a shame to because it drives forward nicely just the reverse crapped itself, he reckons the band is completely worn out. ifs a huge cost to repair i may go manual instead to save myself from future problems. also a sierra repower is not out of the question at this stage but thinking if I go down that road il need a daily for a while which will slow things down
  16. thanks for that will get a parts list started, does anyone know if I'll need a different speedo cable? And another thing I was concerned about was that the starter motor is on the other side so will I need a manual starter motor or will they be the same and just requiring abit of wiring moved?
  17. Well my automatic gearbox has given up completely on my mk2 cortina. Has anyone out there done the conversation from auto column shift to a manual floor change and particularly what parts are needed to do so? I'm sorta venturing into the unknown here so any guidance would be appreciated
  18. I wait in anticipation for the solution to your problem Felix
  19. hmmm weird.. tip abit of fuel in the carby see if it goes for a wee bit? dist 180 out?
  20. you wont need the engine start if its firing just so you know... also just went out on awesome mission up the hills in a suzuki 4x4 was very fun I love snow
  21. I've never seen a negative terminal smoke haha almost amazed at that. Did you get a chance to see if the spark was sparking? well that coil is here if u wana borrow it alas I know little about the distributor sorry can't help there but keep us posted-will check back in the morning
  22. pull a plug an lead then hold it on a ground(engine or body metal) crank engine an you'll have a good answer if its spark related... most likely going to be coil an not points. if its not cranking at all its probably just the battery. Another thing to try would be tipping a wee bit of petrol or "engine start" into the carb. another thing to check would be battery terminals an the ground to engine an body Let me know how it goes.. (ive just been through all of this with my cortina and finally got it going perfectly) ninja edit 69 posts wooooo LOL
  23. hey Felix does the car crank at all? you sure the battery is not dead flat? I recently had batteyr issues took it in for testing and they told me battery was fine but was absolutely dead flat and that the charger I had been using doesn't work well for charging the older style batteries. They charged it up for me and it goes alot better now. Just a thought... Also have you checked to see there is a spark coming from the plugs? p.s I might have a spare coil if you want to try it before buying a new one?
  24. got it to crank ovr today.think the battery is dead flat. still thinking something is not quite right.Engine does have a ground to firewall... Will post up results once battery has been fully charged
