  2. So I have the opportunity buy a dirt cheap v8 holden calias. 170kms near mint condition. 2k. The owner (my boss) has said its got and electrical fault that goes something like this. First was the battery being flat. It wasn't charging so they got the alternator reconditioned an replaced. Still didn't fix it (didn't replace battery though!). Now occasionally when he uses the light switches it stalls the car. not always and problem seems like its not even there until it happens and your stuck without a jump start. He took it to blackwells who did a full check over and couldn't find any fault with it and basically gave it back to him and said we don't know whats wrong.Anyone come across this before? I told him to replace the battery and i've yet to drive it but damn the thing is tidy and cheap! It could be a great investment or even a good car to steal parts from? do you guys think its to much of a gamble?
  3. box was filthy, so got the petrol out an gave it a good clean down this arvo. underneath a good 3mm of grime I found and original "ford 109e" sticker the box has 118e on the side as well as t50 any ideas one what those mean?
  4. I got box thanks to horse teeth on reverse are worn.How much wear is to much? the rest of the box looks good. Is there a way to test the bearings? Does anyone know what flywheel I need? its a 1500 cortina box onto a 1600 block. And will I need the 1500 starter motor? 20 questions I know
  5. Its not my car and my brother wont even give me a cheaper deal on it unfortunately. If I could I would have done it already. He wants 1500 for the car. probably need anther 1500 work to get it on the road and its in no way tidy needs twice the work mine does And like I said, its to good to part. its got about 4 rust holes. needs new carpets an a repair on front seat. Its got maybe 3 dents that are notable and need fixing, the grill is damaged, the Brakes are sloppy and suspension is sloppy to... Wouldn't take a hell of a lot to get it on the road and considering how many are left it would be sad to scrap it for a gearbox. That and once I take the gearbox out theres not much left to scrap except metal Plus im a hoarder and I wouldn't let anyone near it
  6. Cheers will keep that in mind if I don't get this cortina box. Hmmm I never thought about mounting points so will have to have a look as to weither anything needs to be changed.Is there any benefits between the cable clutch and hydraulic clutch? I just happen to have a fully driveable manual column shift dereg cortina in my driveway. But its not mine and its to good to part out. Would only take some rust repairs to get it close to road legal.Unfortunately I have to piece things together at this stage

Spoke to a man named Nick today, he thinks he has a flywheel and clutch and a mk1 floor change box(one like in that picture) will be seeing him in the next week or 2 -he also thinks my drive shaft will be the correct length which would be a bonus! Just need clutch cylinders and a pedal box and probably a starter motor unless I can use the auto bell housing? I'm excited about this car again yay
  8. what parts do you have? Its only an old rusty cortina cruiser not looking to make it fast or racey just what ever gets it moving. Its suppose to be my sunday driver
  9. thanks for that Dan. I will go with the escort box. I do have the larger auto tunnel though but yea the whole point of this car is the bench seat so I won't be removing it. Now I just need a gearbox, clutch an clutch setup, driveshaft and diff. Actually got a guy on trademe who thinks he got the perfect gearbox for me so i'll give him a call today

  11. As per title. I need to know what boxes that bolt onto a 1600 cross flow block will fit in front of a mk2 cortina bench seat? Is it possible to fit a 5speed box an modify the stick to fit? I really don't know to much about what fits what and how so any information would be much appreciated. Its been about 6 months since I started looking for an auto borgwarner 35 and haven't turned up any decent leads so decided to go the way I didn't want and do a manual conversion. Tips an tricks would be appreciated

  14. how much is a sigma worth? If its been hit hard it will need the chassis straightened ? might be worth buying a wofd but ave condition one an swaping your better parts over to it?I've been down that road before and the amount of money you waste fixing stuff you may as well part out an buy another it will work out cheaper unless you have access to all the parts for free that is....
  15. nah if you got gps you can get cops involved? or vigilante justice? accurate to within 5 meters. Combine that with an alarm an a 80hour after battery life, and you have yourself a recovered car. If you can provide the police with proof of location for stolen goods they will sort it out for you. At the least you'll get a gps unit back lol an some dick will get jailed for being involved

  17. never got around to trying in the end but will do soon. got carried away with the painting stuff I was doing. The bellhousing an starter is still all there just taken the auto out hoping to get a new one soon Don't really wana go down the floor change manual route seems such a shame to ruin my sweet bench seat for a performance mod on a car that has less than 100bhp lol

Am working on the old car today after having a long break, Was wondering if theres anyway to trick my car to think the transmission is in Park when the trans is not in the car? right now the lights ect work but the car wont allow me to start it. Is it as simple as playing with the selector cable on gearbox end?
  20. hmmm gearstick will be ok but mounts I have no idea about, I have a welder an my friend has done some fabrication in the past, Realistically what sort mounting issues am I looking at there? will the auto cross member need to be changed?
