    WOW, good coverage, looks like a name change to Midland Madness......... the 'key' comment was to keep it in McKenzie/SCanty, but awesome trails.

    i do have a more compact 'local to Farlie' route involving keys, if needed

    Thanks for the offer Joe, Mof has already pre-run this route (solo and with less daylight!). So we know it's achievable. If anyone else wants to discuss changing the route, please message Mof as the confusion created in the thread isn't worth it.

    So no more CT110s? Don’t burn me, but the first year was great because pretty much all the bikes were similarly paced. It’s more noticeable how slow the smaller bikes are now with big wheeled trial/farm bikes. I agree with the earlier comment about it being called the M***** Moped Melee not being so fitting anymore. I enjoy it because the true small bikes are a challenge. I’ve got big dirt bikes, but they’re made to do this, and that’s the point, I thought. I don’t want to ride my XR500, I want to struggle on inappropriately undersized bikes. My 2c.

    CT110s have never been an issue.

    Would need to venture to Tool Shed for that carry on.

    /doesn't look like they have combos in stock though

    Circ saw is sweet, I only have 12v saw, but it sure makes life easier when paired with a decent capacity battery.

    Looks plausible that they will be open tomorrow.

    It's a sad day when the only choice you have is a Jaguar or a Leaf. I'd Hoon a leaf with non beige interior. Most cars are just appliances anyway. I just don't do the mileage for it to stack up. Do the miles though and the leaf is paid off during ownership due to fuel savings. Was tempting to trade in one of the fleet, but then the rebates came in and prices went up accordingly.

    Prices seem to be dropping away now, this one is $4540 plus ORCs.

    I saw this listing you may be interested in: 2011 Nissan Leaf rebate $3450 SOH 51.95 https://www.trademe.co.nz/4051934582

    Manual with overdrive! What an oppulant way to get to the mtb park. The owner knows @Willdat?

    He didn't seem to understand my comment about how his 2.8 badge is perfectly suited for the ld28 swap.

    Ordered a cam and roller rocker kit, bigger carb and stuff for the xr125.

    aliexpress. Ordered on Tuesday, is in Auckland just now.

    have also brought a xr150 motor that runs but smokes.

    next payday I will order a 185 kit for that.

    fun times ahead.

    You should pull out the motor from your NBC110. 110 Lifan it, flick it on and sell me the NBC motor...I need to build a big bore too....

    So you want a lightweight, low drag caravan for yourself then....?

    I have no disposable income for such a venture at the moment (maybe 2024...). I'd like to design one for my folks as sleeping in the backseat/boot of a sedan seems like something you shouldn't do in retirement

  9. Has anyone got a spare NBC110 motor? (in any condition) I'd quite like to build a big block while still keeping my stock motor in the bike as it's still useful. It's increasingly noisy when hot has possibly lead to some ponies escaping. Last night's ride home from Nats was 72km/h top speed unless tucked with no obvious wind...

    Yeah fuel economy on the 2.4's is the downside. Like many have said, not an issue if not using to commute.

    I really sympathise with trying to find the right car for normal, everyday working people. My wife and I went round in circles for ages. We found the second hand market from about 10yrs ago is stuffed seemingly as it's when people stopped buying commodore/falcons and started buying silly unpractical utes as their primary family car.

    Rhyscar's unsolicited car buying advice;

    If you want a reasonably priced car to do family, modern, comfyish, reliable, decent fuel economy, tow a decent sized trailer/boat - Buy a diesel Hilux etc for >50k

    If you want a reasonably priced car to do family, modern, comfyish, reliable, decent fuel economy, tow a decent sized trailer/boat - Buy a petrol v6 highlander/Pathfinder for <20k

    If you want a reasonably priced car to do family, modern, comfyish but boring, reliable, decent fuel economy, tow a decent small sized trailer/boat - Buy a Rav4 (2L non-4wd better on gas, better engine) or a newer Xtrail/CRV for <20k

    If you want a reasonably priced car to do family, modern, comfyish, reliable, decent moderate fuel economy, tow a decent small sized trailer/boat - Buy a honda accord wagon (touring ones are real nice) <15k

    If you want a reasonably priced sedan to do family, modern, comfyish lush as hell, reliable, decent fuel economy, tow a decent sized trailer/boat - Buy a v6 lexus. KM's don't matter if buying NZ new for <10-15k

    If you want a reasonably priced car to do family, modern, comfyish, reliable-ish, decent fuel economy, tow a decent sized trailer/boat - Buy a BA falcon wagon 200kms or so for <5k

    Someone should put that into a graph?

    We found the sweet spot with buying cars is find one 8-10yrs old with an ignorant owner (either old or young, never a family), who has hardly used it properly but wants a newer model (whether they can afford it or not). Buying cars is more about who you are buying them off and whether they've thrashed/serviced/paid oil changers or a proper mechanic almost as much as the type of car you're buying.

    This is my never-buy modern cars if done more than 80,000kms list;

    Any Mitsi, Volvo, VW, Audi, BMW (although I've heard some are reliable, I've had shit experiences), subaru legacy (they aren't as capable as you'd like them to be), Mazda CX5, I'm on the fence with Hyundai Santa Fe's...

    Perhaps an unpopular opinion but let's face it, the EV equation just doesn't add up currently. No point taking 15-20yrs to recoup the initial outlay in petrol savings to then have a vehicle thats obselete- may as well keep paying for petrol as net financial gain is zero. Petrol is going to be around for a while still; dictated by the rate of change the world is capable of (or not of!). Perhaps this will change if/when good quality second hand EV's that aren't shit to drive can be had for under 20k?

    We ended up with a 2013 Rav4 with 60kms on the clock and a 2012 Lexus with 240kms on. Both NZ new, 1-2owners. Has been trouble free motoring so far, will report back in a few years.

    I like 99% of what you've said except for the EV part. If you have a daily commute of 70km a 30kWh Leaf will smash that for years for ~$12k, less if you buy a toughie. A Tesla or new anything doesn't ever stack up.
