  1. Cool, thanks guys. Gonna rip in to the fuel system tomorrow, first stop: pick a part.
  2. I'm after a fuel tank which has some sort access thing like this: But from pick-a-part and not that fancy. Any ideas? I'm gonna baffle my existing tank similarly to that one and I'm gonna run an aeromotive pump. Just need to find a doner tank which has some way of pulling the pump out etc.
  3. Oh, sweet. That work out pretty good then. I'll pm ya.
  4. Oh man! That'd be super! I'll get the pipe bender this week and bend/cut the pipe up for the cross-member. It might pay to have a yarn about things before I dick it up? If you wanna, you could come around and have a yarn and see what I'm planning, or I can bring it around to yours?
  5. I've half-done some things: Chopped some shit out of my cross member to make room for the sump. Wont shut it up until I've finalised engine placement. I stitch-welded around the strut towers and stuff: Started making the new cross member. Couldn't finish it be cause the pipe bender I was gonna get wasn't all that. Will have to get one this week. Also my welder isn't powerful enough so I've just tacked them, the steel is 5mm. Can anyone recommend a pro welder person I can get to finish them off? I'll have to do the same for the mounts and trans mount. Everyone who comes and looks at the new lump says "cripes, how're you gonna clean it?" So I made a "soda blaster" It took a bit of fucking about but it mostly worked. The plenum is the worstly corroded bit and the "soda blasting" didn't really help. But no matter, I'm gonna wrinkle paint that anyhow. The rest came up pretty good! Yay!
  6. Good thinking on the 432 stz. But, I don't know if I'm completely sold on it. I'm a fair way off building the exhaust thou, so I'll mull it over some more.
  7. They're X-Force, which is an ocker company. They're made for the 350z and they'll fit the engine, possibly wont fit the car without modifying, depends where I put the engine. Not top of the line but they're not chinese knock-offs either. They could to with a bit of grinding & filling around the collector. I'm thinking twin 2.5 down to the end of the g-box and then merge into a 3 inch. But I'll have to do so research. Twin pipe is an option but I prefer the look of a single. Hmmmm, undecided....
  8. The cross member'll have to be notched pretty hard, that's a job for Saturday so I'll keep you posted. Funny you should mention that, I'm using FreeCAD which is free as in beer. You should give it a nudge. I've never used anything else before so can't really tell you how it compares. It's under constant development thou. And can get it for any OS. Make sure you try v 0.12 or above.
  9. Some things have happened. I got the final pieces of the puzzle; driveshaft, fly-by-wire pedal, clutch master. I also bought these! (They're in better condition than my photography shows; just a bit tarnished) This is what I've cad'd up for the mounting senario. The red bits are getting laser cut as you read. Clearance with the steering shaft & zorst were the complicating factors. That pipe that sticks out the bottom wont go that low and will have a couple of bends in it before it connects with it's mirror image on the other frame rail. Also, the flat bit that sticks out the bottom of the red mount will actually be bent to follow the contour of the uprights. So not a lot of actual work. But that's gonna change this weekend surely!
  10. Just so you don't think I'm fucking about: TBH I kinda have been fucking about. I wanted to get more done, but on Saturday I was uber hungover and only achieved anything 'cos 10speed was there. Sunday I was sans hangover but was helping other peeps with their cars. Will try harder next time. Also, in my weakened hungover state I went to Bunnings to buy a strop and walked out with a compressor and air tools. I swear I didn't buy the hoist just 'cos it matches my car...
  11. It should be around 300hp & 274 lb·ft at 4800 rpm. It kinda depends on what year it is. The early ones were 287hp and 260 lb·ft, I still haven't confirmed what year this one is! Must do that, but I'm kinda dreading it. ha ha With all manifolds and no accessories it's supposedly 150kg, I can't remember what I worked out the old engine to be but it was heavier by a wee way. The 350z gearbox is deffo heavier than the 240z one though. We could weigh it if you can be bothered? It sure would be interesting. I don't have a lot of room in my shed for big weighing stuff though. That'd be awesome! Thanks. I'll certainly hit you up when the time comes.
  12. The real stink thing is no one really makes proper headers for that engine, as far as I know. Because of the design of the stock exhaust where the headers are real short and bolt to down pipes, all the aftermarket ones are equally short. The ones in that vid replace the down pipes too, so were longer. Which is probably why they sound so good. But that company has gone out of business. Booo.
  13. I'm pretty chur'd at the moment! Canny wait to get stuck into it. Yeah I bought a 2T one from Save Barn, it's surprisingly good! I figure I'll end out using it heaps so I might as well buy one. Plus I'll probably take closer to 3 months!
  14. ¡MAXIMUM EXCITE! Stink things: [*:fy268j5v]Crack in sump. [*:fy268j5v]Bent vacuum spigot. [*:fy268j5v]Broken starter motor mount on engine. [*:fy268j5v]It's all pretty mucky/corroded/surface rusty. [*:fy268j5v]Unknown unknowns. Good things: [*:fy268j5v]None of the stink things are too hard to fix. [*:fy268j5v]Turns over, has compression. [*:fy268j5v]Reportedly has 33k on the dial. [*:fy268j5v]Everything's there. Tomorrow the L24 goes. I drove it to work today, I can't help but feel said. I mean, the engine runs pretty good, sounds super and has old world charm (by old-world-charm I mean it shakes the car to peices). But omelettes require broken eggs....
  15. Am keen to see what dodakies you use to mount said pipe. Also, the copper pipe is just as cert'able as the steel pipe yeah?
  16. There's no rule which says you need TIG, ticketed welder or crack testing to get coilovers certed. It's entirely up to the certifier. I didn't have any of that and got mine certed last year. You'd need to have good welds though for sure. And, I'm sure some certifiers do insist on above so it probably pays to talk to your cert'r first innit.
  17. The one I had lined up looks like it wont be free in time. Auckland preferably. Probably for a couple of weeks. Happy to pay in beer. Admins; sorry if this is in the wrong section. I didn't know where made sense.
  18. Out of interest, what does it do to you? I painted my scooter with 2k a couple of years ago with all the wrong gear and I feel dumber these days / Could be the P.
  19. So what's best pipe then?
  20. By the way, my engine arrives pretty soon so I've been sorting out all the customs shit, which is a total ball ache: I've paid the ebay store their money and the shipping cost. Then I had to pay the shipping company more money on arrival to NZ for some fees ~ $265 Then had to pay processing, GST and 5% levy to Customs Then have to pay MAF for an inspection fee @ $100 p/h. Then have to pay _another_ fee to the shipping company for making my shipment available to MAF for inspection. Gah! /rant
  21. Looks pretty sweet man.
  22. Yeah all that and pedals. manifolds, accessories
  23. Yeah, totally keen to use the carbon one buy the wheelbase is 40cm shorter in my car so I think it's pretty unlikely I can make it work. But it all arrives pretty soon so will suss it out then. Yay!
  24. Yep I bought the VQ35. It should be ready for pick up in under a week! So pumped. ha I'll run the 350z box as well. Did you throw away the carbon tube and get a steel shaft made using the existing yoke? I believe you can cut and re-bond the carbon shaft, but I doubt anyone in NZ would do it.
  25. Really good tidy work man. I lol'd P.S You should put your discussion thread in your sig.
