  1. The Salisbury Axle company was bought by Dana (Spicer Manufacturing) back in the 20s, and the brand of 'Salisbury' formally existed into the 70s. LandRovers had 'Salisburys' (Dana60) in the rear of the Series III 109s from the early 70s.

WWII Willys Jeeps had Dana 25/27 which would have been surplused alot.

  2. Try and get the bulk off with mineral turps/paint thinners.  Remaining residue might be susceptable to acetone, or if you can find it use dichloromethane/methylene chloride - be careful that is the active ingredient in paint strippers

  3. The deep throat shrinkers do have some extra capacity in hard to reach spots.  Depends on the price difference?

I need to make a decent slapper too, but you can get buy by bending up a worn out bastard file - leaves some little marks so you can follow where you are.

It's interesting that LPG has not been considered or mentioned by anyone in govt or similar for its environmental benefits

Especially as it will be blended in the future with more environmentally friendly ingredients

They’re too obsessed with Hydrogen these days

  6. Good mate of mine built up a HJ prem with a dedicated gas 308 over 10yrs ago for his wife.  She's dailyed it ever since and they love it.

Unfortunately the network is now getting a bit thin and with the advent of hybrid/electric vehicles thats where the super economy driven drivers are going...

My 2nd vw was only car I lost money on to be fair it never broke down and when it went well shit it went so damn well any indiscretion was forgotten. So comfortable to drive too....... but buy a late model type r or s Honda.

Its a Mk5 Tdi and has been one of my better daily driver decisions. Very good value for what they are.

    Too late, acquired a Mk5 R32 for a song.

My MK5 GTI was a nice car and nice to drive, but it never really wowed me. It was almost too good as an allrounder and didnt really stand out at anything in particular. A tune would liven it up a bit, but then you start to reach the limits of what you can put through the front tyres. Launch control was a good laugh, so much wheel spin, so little movement.

The MK5 R32 on the other hand really wowed me. It felt heavier, but that grunt and surefooted feeling was awesome. R32s are already on the way up, they hit the bottom of the curve a couple of years ago.

Having just purchased an R32 for good value I hope this come to pass

  9. ^ Agreed.  Mentally at some point these can go from assets to liabilities... being worth so $$$ much you end up worrying too much to drive the damn things.

All the higher prices do is go someway to financially justify an extensive restoration.
