  1. Amazing. That answers it. Cheers Clint.
  2. Here's a quickie. Did a search but couldn't find any solid answers. Battery in boot. MK2 Golf hatchback. What are the rules? At the moment it's just stilling there clamped to the floor. I understand that it needs to be in a box - is this just a generic plastic box from Repco or whatever? Thanks in advance.
  3. New gaskets, and engine mocked up.
  4. Super quick question regarding a FWD automatic car. Popped an outer CV while reversing my girlfriends car this morning. Jacked it up and noticed that the axle is completely free from the CV. It crunched a bit when it happened and then I lost all power - car wouldn't move and revved freely. Is this normal for losing one CV? Or could I have done more damage? I know nothing about FWD's or automatics haha. Any help appreciated!
  5. @MKD haha fair! It's still sitting here, so can always go back on if the bike doesn't end up looking how I imagined.
  6. @Abarth Hadn't thought about that to be honest - but yeah it sounds like a good idea!
  7. Picked up the side covers, look bloody great. Going to leave them raw.
  8. Decided to go for a smaller rear fender. Now using a front fender off a CB360 rather than the rear. Made some little brackets up: Ready to weld: Mr.Vapour also blasted my engine side covers and a few other bits and pieces. Hit a wall now. I'm at the stage where I need to start purchasing new parts. Probably will look at getting the seat reupholstered next.
  9. For my motorcycle tank, I let it sit for a week with vinegar & a chain which got the bulk of the flaky rust out. I then used the POR15 tank cleaner/sealer kit. Came with a cleaner, a prep solution and the sealant itself. Was about $80 I think. It's quite a pain in the as to do to be honest. Lots of rotating the tank by hand to ensure every surface was coated. But, the tank is mint now!
  10. Can anyone recommend me a place to grab some flat bar steel? Preferably closish to city centre Auckland (pushing my luck maybe?). First time attempting some minor fab work so I have no idea about good suppliers etc etc. Ta!
  11. Purchased and installed some new handlebars which I'm pretty happy with. Also painted the engine. Going to get the side covers polished to a chrome finish. I really need to finish up all the fabrication work so I can get the frame powder coated and start the process of reassembling.
  12. Decided to tidy up the engine by chucking on a coat of primer. And mockup up the rear fender to where I'd like it to sit. Just need to figure a way out to mount it. Have ordered some new handlebars which should be with me in the next day or two which will give me a better idea of how the bike will look.
  13. Did a rough assemble to get an idea of how the bike looks, the bars look like absolute rubbish but I just needed something to move the bike around with. Seeing as my garage is full of CB360 parts, I'm going to cut down a rear fender to use on the 175. Just need to fabricate a bottom mount headlight bracket, a battery mounting solution, and some new foot pegs and then I'm pretty much happy with the frame. Nearly up to the fun part of making everything pretty, and purchasing shiny new parts!
  14. Thanks mate. Will follow what you've said when I've got a chance. Cheers
  15. I tested the coil with the original earth (wired into the loom and earths on the firewall) which gave me no spark. I removed that and added my own from the coil to the body and I got spark. Hope that make sense.
  16. Think I may have found the problem. Tested the coil by tapping the positive terminal with a feed from the battery - no spark. Figured it must have been the coils earth (which runs into the loom). Ran a new earth from the negative coil post and I got spark. Going to hook it all up properly tomorrow night and hopefully that's the end of that (providing the rest of the ignition is sweet haha). Thanks all!! Really appreciate the guidance.
  17. Yes I'm well aware they're the same definition and understand how to test for a spark correctly. I haven't had a chance to look at the car tonight, but when I have a chance I'm going to check the ignition modules earth & clean up if necessary. Might bite the bullet and source a replacement.
  18. Just had a look at the wiring, there's only one way it can be wired - connector from the dizzy to module, spade connector to negative post of coil, and ring connector from ballast to positive of coil. So I'm certain it's wired the same as when it was running. Will check all grounds tonight. Is it possible to have the dizzy out of phase? The distributor rotor will only slip onto the shaft one way. Can I pull the dizzy out, and spin it by hand to try find spark? I'll have another look tonight. I'll give everything a cleanup. Cheers
  19. Fuses are good! Have actually put this car on hold for the next week as my MK2 Golf has decided to die on me. Oldschool life huh.
  20. Looks good on the road tyres! I saw this on TradeMe and was contemplating it... was a good price!
  21. Thank you! I appreciate this. I haven't disconnected the coil or ballast - they've been on the car the whole time so I assume it's correct as it was running before. Wires run from ignition module -> ballast -> positive side of coil. I hope that's correct. Would the distributor earth through the connecter that goes to the ignition module? I'll check this tonight. Will also check the coil via your method. Cheers!
