AUCKLAND Monthly Meet - 18th Jan!
fishtailfred replied to EURON8's topic in Upper North Island Region
Shit, well and truly missed that, not sure what I was even doing. Feb might be the last one, might have to bring the ute to that one and do a 4 cylinder skid instead of a lousy 3 cylinder one. -
AUCKLAND Monthly Meet - 18th Jan!

Subscription thread working mint, should be there again, maybe i'll shout myself a burger instead of spraying baked beans everywhere and nearly blowing up a butane cooker LOL. -
Two dead Mazdas in one garage, both slow (stationary), I wonder which will be faster in 2 weeks time? Mine has an ECU and no engine. Yours has an engine and no ECU. Gissa race? Rolling start (so I have traction and your gearbox holds together!) straight line (because the ute doesn't like going around corners (without over or understeer) at the moment...).

I'm surprised that it was soft down one side! But if you took it to the guy I think you did, I trust him. And the valve, hmmm, if he took it out to give that diagnosis, sure, otherwise, hmmmm. Still, again, I trust him! I rofled at your sheepers quote and the subsequent head man quote. Not sure if you heard, but I roasted my ute engine royally. You should come round and check it out when I get it over here. Currently in Howick. The thing with OEM boost levels, such as 10psi, is that they don't stress the engine much more than stock, except thermally. You DO get much more torque/power, though, which is a nice freebee in most cases. Right, back to trying to figure out where my number 2 piston ended up... Fred. -

Sweet! I started work on the better map, but got tired and went to sleep. I'll finish it this morning and replace the link in the template post. It's not a big deal, it's just that the other one is a jpeg and jpeg does not do text... it should be png, give me a few hours and it will be -

Fucking look at that, email arrives, I post, bingo! You forgot to back link and tell people to subscribe the other thread for future events, though: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=24973 No idea if I'll be there, but at least I know about it happening! Fred. -

I missed yet another... I have an idea to prevent this happening again, at least, to prevent it happening by ignorance... The same idea could mean a lot more people might show up each month! I'll implement it and we'll see what everyone thinks of it. Fred. -

Your head is fine, just get it fixed up (that valve), and assemble it properly using a good gasket, unlike the last guy, and you'll be sweet. If you do go crazy (wait, you already are) and get a whole nother engine, then don't take it apart first, leave the good seal intact at least at first... Just fix the head and reassemble properly Fred -

If you're gunna throw a V8 at it, at least make it a performant one: 1uzfett. Keeping it 6 cyl would be sweet, then you've got RB30DET and friends to choose from, along with the 2JZ and who knows what else. Before you do any of that though, throw a decent hg on it and 10psi and you might be happy with it as is. -

Your friendly local homeless bum will be there next time if he sees the thread early enough, might be a bit late to head over tonight... -
If you'd like to abuse me or feed me or get me to film skids or anything else, really, let me know I head back to JAFA land on Thursday night pretty late. Fred.

Monthly Auckland Burger Fuel Meet Up April 20th
fishtailfred replied to fishtailfred's topic in Upper North Island Region
I definitely won't be there now. The unmistakable sound of piston slapping the head while the rod bearing floats around glittering in the oil is there and only gunna get louder if i drive it. Sorry -
Someone told me to start this thread to generate interest I won't name him, but I reckon his car cost a grand. Anyway, I assume that the details are all the same as the last one. IE, meet on the carpark/roof at 7 or so and wander down for a feed when most people have arrived and got cold/bored of looking at each others wheels I'm not sure if I'll make it or not. As with last time, I'm still broke and can't afford a burger, which takes some of the fun out of it. Maybe I could throw a can of baked beans on the ex manifold and come anyway, though. So, who is keen???
-
Who is to say you wouldn't get a drive in the ute?
-
EDIT: Missed the date, feel free to PM when similar offers are made for legal burnouts and car trailers Yeah? I could be keen, in that case!

My ms arrived in the post and was fully built less than 24 hours later. Then it lived under my bed for a few years. Then one day I ripped it out, and 48 hours later it was running the truck. Granted, I just spent another 2 days redoing that wiring, but doing it properly the first time would have taken the same amount of time. It's not at all hard, don't be afraid of it. See if you can find someone who has done it before close to you and feed them beer/food. If you were in JAFA land I'd give you a hand Yep, this is valid reasoning. However adjustable boost levels and a knock sensor with a good algorithm will take care of shit fuel just fine too. Fred.

Good call, Cam. Yeah, I just assume everyone will do their own tune and do it on the street. I really can't see any reason not to. Even in an insanely quick car you can street tune. Granted, it may be terrifying, but it's still possible. Still, if you are pussy, and CBF doing the tuning yourself, then everything Cam said is true. Disagree. It is whatever you want it to be, really. The more you learn/know, the more you will get out of it. That is true of any ECU, though. Plug and play ms boxes, with support, from a company, are available. +1, but doing something else says you're lazy or in a hell of a hurry. Fair call. The G4 stuff and vipec stuff are one and the same too. I have a mate in LA running twin vipecs on his private custom plane and he loves them, and their internal architecture. Fred.
