After realising a 50cc nangmaster 3000 wasn't quite the ticket for me, I sold the RD50. Fast forward a few months and a FB market place listing for this popped up in a group chat. Local and the price was right.
Another 50cc 2 stroke! 1981 Suzuki A50-II. The guy I bought it off, it was his old man's and he recalls riding it around as a kid, but since then it's just sat in the shed. Last registered 1995 and looked every bit like it had been sitting gathering dust since.
So got it home, gave it a soak and a wipe down and it's bloody solid. Hit the chrome with CRC and Goldilocks and whilst it is far from mint, its solid. Shows its age but doesn't appear to have had a huge amount of use.
Fuel in the carb and fuel tap had turned to gum so stripped and cleaned those. New fluids, check for spark, and it fired into life first kick and idled straight off the bat. It goes and stops (ride around the lawn) but no signs of life from any of the lights. Indicators run off the battery so they go. Fuel leaks from the carb so that needs attention but otherwise a solid start to getting it back in the road.

Pretty sure it's a screw in. No to supercars but we will find a way. I think there is a service where people deliver things across the country. I'll do some research

I think I've still got the oil tank and lid from mine. Happy to donate the lid to the cause of that's of value?

I lasted about 2 weeks on the factory 50 in mine before lifan swapping....
@GuyWithAviators has a 70/90? in his and its a complete different experience. Soooo good.

Someone on this group might be willing to help? Unless it gives away the racing advantage....

So that fuel doesn't flow when the engine isn't running without having to switch it on and off. Guess it stops the chance of carb leaks etc
Anyway, I had the same issue with my v50 one and it wasn't letting enough fuel through (although it is running a Lifan so high performance) so I just have it in the prime position all the time and it does the trick.

Some yarns here https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/archive/index.php/o-t--t-435807--.html
Including a post which gives slightly different wiring instructions, uses the coil specifically for 15 and 31b

CHCH boes, would anyone be willing to pick up a ute canopy for me (belfast) and hold on to it while I figure out how to get it up the country? I have some family so possibly have a lawn to dump it on as well but getting it picked up from the buyer is the first goal.

And new shocks all around. 4x4 d21 up front (shorter than the 2wd ones) and Nissan Quest rear shocks in the back which are shorter than the factory ones as well. All bolted straight in and feels as good as a 35 year old truck on bumpstop should feel like ...haha. Front is touching bumps, rear not quite. So need to have a play there.

Lowered the front another 20mm or so, shitty pic sorry
Added some foam matting to the tray

Google says they are the same, just different pistons and stoke length. This probably isn't the best forum to ask though, those aren't engines typically played with on here. A Nissan or 4wd forum would be better. Good luck!

Reset springs in. It's not actually low but it sites level now now and looks a lot better. New shocks are on the list, these don't have any shock left in them.

Anyone interested in buying this? Its not getting used enough and I could really use the cash to fix my other things. Moped rego, nice and reliable for around town nangs.

Oh and @Nominal will love this one, ran over a screw (likely my own considering it only drives in and out of the garage) and put a hole in one of the new tyres. So sat on a spare for a few months before I did anything about it. Got a proper vulcanised repair thingy done to it. So progress, but ended up exactly where I started. Classic.

Beavers Suzuki A50

Plans are to get it running properly, give a few other things a once over (cables are pretty stiff and sticky) and then see how it rides. Whilst the v50 has proven itself as the ultimate adventure bike, I do want to build up a proper small motorbike (rather than step through) so perhaps this will be it. More likely than not will result in a repower to achieve what I'm after so will make the decision once I've taken it for a few proper rides. An A100 engine would be nice to keep it in the family.
