  5. i think its a sign when the exhaust man asks "has it been raised in the bak".....lol i need to get it lowered asap. can someone recomend someone in chch to shorten strut inserts? i have lowering springs bt they arnt captive, and if its cheap enough ill do that instead of cutting coils.... chur
  6. right, study and lack of money has slowed things down a bit. decided that it needs a paint so in prepaeration for that, went and saw tonythepainter (new dude on here) and he is going to fix up my right front guard as its coverd in bog and is split everywhere and just shitty. hes also goin to patch up the spoiler holes in the boot. then dependin on how i feel/what my bank account says, im keen to get hold of some paint and spray it myself. i also prices up getting the leaves reset, 160+gst and bellamy and east, dude said he can take 2 1/2 inches out so that will be sweet. so yeh, money is the biggest factor at the mo, so will see how things turn out. oh and got another set of extractors as the ones in it now have a big dirty crack and it was cheaper just to get another set lol ($40 buks)
  7. yay pics!! spent today doing an oil change, new oil filter and spark plugs, also removed the tow bar as it looked fugly it really needs to be lowered...ahhh i have no money
  8. yay wof ane reg cheap rego saves my life....85 buks a year ftw. next step is lowering...probably get leaves reset as 2 inch blocks just wont cut the mustard....i have lowering springs for the front but they arent captive with the new strut inserts. might cust chop the strandard ones
  9. if i was to get a cam, i would only get a gt or slightly higher grind, as i still want it drivable around town. anyways i have negative money at the mo so its a wee way away yet
  10. took in for recheck today...passed on everything except i was missing two bolts from the front bench doh!! ah well, stoked that everything else passed. hopefully will take it back in tomoro arvo
  11. good thinking mcgiver....i shall look into that. i get the tie rod end back from the engineer today, and then i just need to whip that back in, finish putting the front struts back in, bleed the brakes and then i can take it back for its recheck...fingers crossed haha. oh yeh do you know if mk2 gt calipers will bolt on?
  12. DISCUSS!! http://www.oldschool.co.nz/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=18863 hey all. i have parted ways with the hunter (ill never forget the times....tear tear lol) and gained possesion of this 1969 mk2 cortina. has been off the road for best part of 12 months, with rego on hold. has full 2" exhaust, gt carb. after some issues with the replaced gearbox not working, i sorted it by putting the old gbox back in and away it went. took for a warrent last friday and failed on rear leaf spring bushes (replaced them today) inner tied rod end was fucked (being rebuilt, should be ready on monday) front left strut leaking (have replaced both front struts) unbalanced rear brakes (have stripped/cleaned/put back together cylinders) handbrake up to fuck all(just needed adjusting) so yeh once the tie rod end comes back ill whip that in and tack it back and hopefully will get a wof. took it through vtnz for peace of mind so yeh the fail list wasnt too bad considering. once its wofed, first step is to lower it (had to put original front springs back in as new struts were not shorted like the old ones), and am prety keen on dropping a hot cam in, there are a shit load on tm at the mo for around 100 bucks so yeh, this is whats distracting me from uni at the mo lol ah well....
  13. haha ive got a mk2 cortina now. spent a few hard hours over the last week getn if wof ready, has been off the road for nearly 12 months. hopefully ill have it on the road before/over the weekend.
  14. my beloved hunter has changed hands....now i500gt sits behind the wheel of this beast. was sad to see her go, was my first car i ever worked on by myself and got me addicted i think haha. now have mk2 cortina to keep me busy!! big thanks to everyone that offered advice etc due to me being a noobie haha
  15. i think i can manage that haha, will check next time i go out to the car (it at a mates)
  16. hmm that makes sense now....as the gen light comes on at idle...cheers
  17. what sort of things should i be looking out for?
  18. i dont have the car with me but ill get the values asap. but yeh i found it weird the voltage dropped at the battery when running....checked straight off the generator and it was still 1v idling then increasing with revs, but at average engine speed id say its only putting out 4-5v
  19. when all connected but not going its 12.6ish, when idling its 12.5ish, cant remember what is was giving it gas. i just thought the generator would be putting more voltage out but ive never had a car with one before so yeh, im likely wrong haha
  20. hey all. what sort of voltage should i be getting out of a generator? at the mo i get around 1v at idle, and when reved, goes up to about 7-8 when you give it stink. im only getting 12.5ish volts across the battery at idle. is this normal? or should it be like an alternator where i should be getting 13-14v across the battery? cheers
  21. do you need window washers (water squirter thingys) for wof?
  22. IT MOVES!!!!!!!!!! turns out we were on the right track, but hadnt taken enough of the input shaft. put the old gbox back in and workd a treat thanks for all the help guys
  23. haha i wish u were in my shed too!! nah it wasnt to cold actually. have called it a day for today, back home now as the car is out at a mates. have tracked down old gearbox that used to be in car and am going to try that out when i next get the chance, and hopefully it works, which confirms that its the input shaft, in which case i will get another gbox. i insepcted the pilot bearing hole, and you could see that something had been grabbing, but there was no damage. at this stage i am 99.9999% sure that it will work perfectly with the old gbox back in
  24. hmmm thats interesting.... took the gbox out again...compared input shaft lengths with another mk2 cortina box, turns out it was 15mm too long.....so we "modified" it to the same length (well close enough) put everything back together....still didnt work.... guna have a feed and try some more shit
