  1. I second that!!! got some parts for my 2L conversion from a car that caught on fire for just that reason
  2. haha hey bro! havent been on here for ages thought i better come see what people are saying bout your car haha. sweet score though ay!!
  3. I would replace with a metric or whatever but the where the driveshaft bolts onto the diff is threaded and no nuts are used by the looks of it? feels as though they could work themselves out
  4. thanks for the help... could be tricky finding whitworth bolts
  5. oh yeah sorry forgot to say its a mk1 escort
  6. hi can someone please tell me the thread of the bolts that bolt the driveshaft onto the diff. i have some 10x1.25mm but they are wrong. thanks.
  7. Haha i know exactly how you feel. it took me two days to get a spark!! anyway my problem resulted in the points gap being too large and not allowing the coil to charge up enough so i suggest checking this. Also with the points open and the ignition on there should be 12V between the SW or + terminal of the coil and earth.
  8. Hahaha its alive!! It turned out the points gap was way out and with a bit of adjustment i got a good spark and the engine ran on the second crank! thanks heaps for all the help. hopefully no more problems in the next wee while
  9. ok, theres some stuff to think about. i have feeler gauges to get it right if anyone knows the specs? it definitly does seem to big. and if all else fails i will try replacing the distributor but as you said they are so simple i cant see how it would be stuffed
  10. one other thing i can think of is the gap between the points when they are open. it seems rather large, so maybe they are not staying closed long enough?
  11. well, i could go and get another condenser, they cant be worth much? and i have another dizzy that i can put on and try.
  12. yip i have tried that and also holding the HT lead from the coil near the block, i have tried using a couple off different leads but still made no difference.
  13. haha ok ill try remember that, yeah this site is great!! Anyway i opened the points with the ignition on and got a very small spark. I have also mounted the coil horizontally will this affect anything?
  14. ok i tried connecting a wire from the starter solenoid to the + side of the terminal, still no joy i must have something wrong somewhere but i cant figure out where?
