  1. the ke70 struts fit the ae86 inserts. just use the spacers, cant cut the inserts to suit as it ends up waaay too low
  2. yeah ae86 rears fit, but the height differs for the front. ill sell ya a TRD race setup
  3. cam bearing caps = 9 ft lbs/13nm

    Sticky bolts

yeah prob just jammed from tension on the support try prying that a bit to see if it loosens it up
  5. yes of course hp and torque are related. ok you can also add to that list everything else! about the only time out right HP is more important is drag racing
  6. have a reread mate.... i was replying to the person asking where FWD came into it, you just snuck your reply in before that
  7. ok, so i cbf doing the maths fact is torque is more important. if its not then theres quite a lot of race engine builders out there doing it wrong also for the budget minded builder torque is better, as a high HP engine is usually peaky, needing exspensive ratio changes to make use of it. just go ask WRC, NASCAR, etc etc
  8. oh thats just the natural evolution of a forum topic going off topic
  9. horses for courses..... the latest generation diesels do very well. and.... again.... apples to apples.... why compare a 2 ltr sports car engine to a 2 ltr ute engine? say youv got 2 cortinas (MK3 2 doors coz i like them) both have 2 ltr pintos. one has 200hp and 150nn the other 175hp and 200mn (figures pulled out of my arse) everything else about them is exactly the same which do you think will be fastest around a track?
  10. yeah but thats an easy fix. hardly qualifies the engine as notoriously unreliable. its not uncommon for them to still be running with the original cog even today. nothing else in that article is unusual for any performance rebuild. remember apples to apples...... and also HP is bull shit, torque is whats important
  11. well, some of SYK0V6s comments are actually incorrect..... like most of that. how ever you have to remember apples to apples.... reliability has never been an issue with them, dont know where you got that from
  12. while there are later model engines that are better (isnt that the case with everything?) id hardly call the essex a shitter. it all depends on the end goals and dreams
  13. yeah i was thinking in terms of using the twin carbs he was talking about. if it was me. id go holley, or triple webers. i think the holley would be the cheapest/easiest and also suit a stock to mild engine better the triple webers i would consider for a rather serious version. my head says go the holley. my heart says go the webers i think the twin cortina webers will be costly and a pita to set up. really only worth thinking about if you can make a new manifold. man i wish i still had my capri
  14. equal length means casting one up... not really a cheap thing to do! i was thinking more on the lines of a plenum type manifold. is this a race or street engine?
  15. cool, id look at making up a manifold. i think you may need to consult some one local whos done this sort of thing before. as you ned to take into consideration cam, port profile, rev range, compression ratio etc basicly you need a plan of what to do. while you can learn a lot from the web, having some one whos done it before, even on a different engine, will be a huge help.
  16. i mean will they match up to where the carbs will fit? id be inclined to think not really. why dont you see if you can get ya mate to make a new manifold? maybe one with individual runners to a plenum, with the carbs mounted on top. what other mods are being done?
  17. runners = the passages in the manifold to the inlet ports
  18. well. i reckon it can be done just a lot of pissing round modifying the linkages to have the secondaries open when you want. resizing jets shouldnt be any harder than on anything else. the only other thing is will the stock manifold runners suit?
  19. if mechanical then yeah you could fiddle with the links to make it open earlier will take a bit of fiddling round though. they wouldnt open at 5000rpm, theyd open at a set throttle percentage
  20. so i assume its vaccum secondaries? been a while since i played with webers
  21. your far too young to call me kiddo, sonny.
  22. bloody hell serial killer eyes if ever i saw them
