  1. Oh yeah forgot. The brothers car has 4 pots and I got jealous so I bought some alfa romeo 166 brembos. I would assume that being Italian they'll leak until they blow up but painting on a BMW badge might resolve that. My theory is that the alfa brakes mounting holes are parallel (although not concentric) to the BMW ones which will keep the mounting bracket a bit more 2 dimensional. I have no idea if they'll fit but worth a shot for $200. At the risk of sounding shallow I wouldn't mind some larger discs for purely aesthetic reasons, but will see if the current disc is already a stretch. I feel like red Brembos is super cliche but these might end up red if I cant make the original paint look good. I wish the caliper rattle cans came in more colours. At least you can buy heat proof decals for them so they'll look the ducks nuts.
  2. So I decided that the only sensible course of action was to build a garage worthy of projects. The car was stored at a mates for a while but I’ve since brought it home to papa and it’s front and (off)centre of the shed. I wanted to keep to a budget but by the time you’ve paid for the electrical gear and the ply and floor paint, it all adds up! Haven’t even poured a driveway yet which will sting. Considering the ply sheets are cheap bunnings spec I’m pretty happy with some of the grain Anyway... to the car. I bought a staggered set of M-parallels. If you’re not a bmw person you might not care about that, but beema people will fizz. They’re 18x8 +14 and 18x9 +25 (from memory) and have 235 and 265 RE003s on them. Keen to make em smoke. The rear is going to get 25mm spacers and the front has wider control arms from an E46. For those that don’t know, the arms push the castor forward a bit and the track out 25ish mm per side due to slightly different design. I bought Condor bushes to make that work, they’re pretty sweet but cost the earth thanks to NZD - USD exchange rate. Maybe I should clean that arm.. I ordered an over fender kit from Cliq but it’s been a fucking mare and nothing has been shipped, so I expect PayPal will refund me and I’ll be back on the hunt. Tempted to roll bolt on flares just for the OS lols but it restricts low low and I love slammed whips. Also the bf made me a sick Xmas present which broke shortly afterwards (he’s a sparky and maybe not such a fabricator haha) but I’ll fix it up, paint the body black, and hopefully use it as main key. Anyway if you’ve been following this build I’m sorry about the delay. Garage took way longer than planned. Hopefully less delays coming up, me and the brother have agreed that leadfoot 2021 is our deadline. Long drive from the south but would be sick! his FD Is coming along. Engine fit surprisingly easily and we going off the shelf headers for him which saves pain. Circle Track down in chch is building him a driveshaft as we speak and I’ll get one off them soon too. Also my letterbox finally rusted up and is starting to look sweet. Fucking couriers though, it’s been installed for months and not a single package has made it into the package slot. Oh well, I tried.
  3. Haha I’ll think about the dodges but no need to break in, just walk in the front door and start pillaging! I think I’ll hang filter under the mount like a normal car and just have it on an angle to clear belts and ground and cats eyes.
  4. Funny you both point those out - I just realised I have done multiple oil changes on cars with those tray setups. I guess my main concern was the function of the actual filter, but safe to say it doesn't matter.
  5. Haha don’t worry I appreciate that the vert life isn’t for everyone! the current 19s are 19x8.5 ET35, with 235 35 tyres on them. No rubbing at all and I reckon I could lower it without an issue. Not very stancey but I’m fucking over rubbing wheels and dialling in camber to compensate. The style 32s I had on there were a 215/35 mounted on 18x8 et20 and 18x9 et22 wheels. The sidewalls just touched the guards on big bumps, but honestly I think the 330i deserves much more Tyre than 215. I still haven’t decided what to run on the e36 but with a planned 500ish horses I think it’ll be a 245 or 265 in the back.
  6. Got underway with the exhaust. Off the shelf headers fit mint on passenger side. Sadly drivers side isn’t so easy! I have an aftermarket steering shaft which makes more room, but still gonna be a cunt. Passengers Drivers Anyone got an opinion on mounting an oil filter upwards? Trying to keep it super accessible while not scraping the ground. Is the oil pouring out at oil change time going to ruin my life? Was thinking about here. Otherwise I can flip it upside down. Also fine to run on an angle? I chucked on e46 330i front discs and calipers for a bit more meat in the anchor department, and matched it with e46 328i rears. Thankfully my hawk pads fit the rear calipers but I’ll have to buy new ones for bigger front stoppers. Will probably end up buying slotted discs too for 100% wank factor. Is a bit sad to sell my other slotted discs after only a couple of thousand ks but I guess with the extra horses I’m gonna need the best brakes I can afford. Obligatory hoist shot. Fuck I can’t wait to detail this car, it’s looking pretty rough at the moment. Also I noticed my vert tyres were bald so I bought some 19s off a commodore. Never had a wheel that big before, actually drives better than before (I think the less offset means correct scrub radius cos it’s much less twitchy). Send flaming about hideous wheel choice to ialreadyknow@hotmale.cunt Vert is actually for sale now which makes me sad, but building a big shed so need to stop throwing $$ at too many cars! Also have to give the moto a bday which will cost a few bucks. About to chuck motard wheels on for summer, keen to do some wheelies.
  7. Yo cleeeeetus. My van was certified for a wheelchair hoist which I have removed. No other mods at all. Can I remove the plate? Xx
  8. Got my high quality Fenix radiator and shroud today. I suspect they’ve never test fit one into a car but I can make it work. Didn’t come with a filler neck / cap which is a bit gay cos I need to weld one into the end tank. Looks good tho
  9. Hey I don’t have FB so I think I’m missing the dates/times for these? Is it posted somewhere else?
  10. Update to that - the engine fire wrecked the old bits so I would have had to replace them anyway. Will blank off for now and reassess after cert
  11. It’s already pulled out of the car and the engine doesn’t have an AC compressor which I don’t quite understand. But... anyway I am leaving the E36 side of it unbutchered so I can add it easily if I want to later. Generally in a bmw the heaters are on full hot to prevent bhg lol, and I don’t remember ever using AC with the old engine. Maybe it didn’t work. But I pretty much leave AC on in my van and E46 just to dry the air, so I definitely see the benefits. I’m just terrified of never finishing this car so don’t want to bit off any extra!
  12. Yeah it’s mental. At the top of fourth it finally gets its legs and snaps your head back in the seat! It’s a weird sensation when something pulls harder and harder through the gears. Especially considering it’s got fuck all lag. Anyway today was a good day! Engine and box are sitting in the car and fit well. Gearbox mount is for a T56 but fits close enough. Will space it up so gbox sits a lot higher. Shifter will be a bit of a dick so I’m going to have to fagricate up a shorter mount and linkage. I think standard position sits about 5” back from the current hole. I was tempted to move the hole but then have to ruin trim and move my hydro and handbrake back and I want the interior to look pretty standard. best thing is the huge amount of room available at the front! I have a Fenix M3 radiator coming for the gap, straight bolt in... and that should provide heaps of cooling. It’s what all the USA people are using (M3, not Fenix) with no trouble. I’m not keeping AC and theres a big daddy oil cooler to compliment it. Still weighing up an oil thermostat but almost think the added complexity isn’t worth it. Headers on drivers side are going to be a real cuntflap. Writing this in the bath, hoping I don’t drop the phone. Too many diesels! Nek steps are to make new steering shaft, move ABS pump or delete it, get driveshaft made, and send loom off to the pros. I’d really like to sneak this up to Raglan but it’s not old and won’t be finished! Wish I still had an E30
  13. Ones for the brothers FD. We are going exactly the same spec so that we can have a fair race at some point!
  14. What were you driving? Cheers for the pic! Sorry for driving like a 15yo. Me and a mate swapped cars for a bit and I broke his 500+hp evo! Crank pulley exploded and let the belts go. Overheated it. Considering it’s a 2.4 stroker that’s quite new I really hope I didn’t kill it. Slapping engine together at the moment for the TYRBBQ. So far it’s been a bit of a cluster but nothing too major. The oil pickup tube fouled the plate that sits under the crank, so the die grinder sorted that out. Frustrated that the fucking pickup tube hits the sump though so will need to be modified. I bought them all off the shelf from Sikky and I would expect it to just work! Also the engine guy wrecked the water jacket bung by cross threading it. What a munter, I’m gonna have to go and find an m28x1 tap to clean it up. Got really hammered last night so progress is slow.
  15. Unpacked engines. They look brand new so I’m stoked about that. This weekend is the big push to get it sitting in the engine bay. I’m assuming this is gonna be the first of about 20 install/removals of it so may as well get good at it! Also took the convertible out for a track day. Got it pretty sideways for heaps of laps. Eventually it went into whiskydick mode so I went home.
  16. Finally, engines have arrived!
  17. LS Engine Supplies in Perth. He’s a nice guy and the price was about 3500-4000 cheaper than what I could find here, but I can’t help but think he doesn’t understand his duty/gst requirements. Not really my problem and I’ll hold my judgement and cross my fingers that it all works out ok. I bought 2 engines and boxes from him so he better be a GC lol. L98 with aftermarket camshaft and pushrods etc installed + TR6060 box was $12500. A good chunk of that (maybe 2500) was cam and install which is something I’d normally do myself but atm I have waaay too much on so figured I’d be better off paying for it and just getting an engine I can slap straight into the car.
  18. Cheers! Yeah i can’t believe how much I’ve spent on this car. I love the way they drive, and that unmistakable bmw smell that somehow lasts forever. Engine still stalled in customs, the company I bought it off is pretty fucking tardy tbh. In the meantime I put some power flex LCA bushings in the vert and it made it waaaaay better
  19. Fuck you’d think I would learn ay. I have had quite a few since then! Fuck I got drunk that night. Ive been in Chch for 5 years now so I’m a mainlander.
  20. I thought the 4 locals who went there every day would be enough to keep it open! I quite liked stopping in at that one - by that stage of the drive I’m normally pretty thirsty.
  21. Sorry man sold it to a pal ages ago
  22. Ha I’m pretty sure that driveshaft hoop was my old one! Can’t believe it suffered that badly. Also you’re probably still using my old engine cross member, glad to see parts live on forever
  23. Yeah shortened linkage sounds like the go. In my experience wit the bmw one I did, it’s not exactly hard. Just need to have a diesel first so you don’t feel so bad about cutting up an expensive gbox. My mates 4 door race car with a cage is about 1250 wet, no real weight savings other than removing interior. Id like to be around the 1300-1350 region wet with the LS but I’m not gonna go for weight savings at the cost of comfort. It’s a street car after all! 330i engine has been a real dick so far. Throwing money at sensors should fix it for a while. Not as fast as I hoped but maybe it needs its Thanos seals replaced. I think the cabrio is probably a whale which won’t help
  24. Short answer is no I don’t. Engine and box should arrive in about a week. I kinda wanted a T56 but for an extra couple of hundy I thought I’d just go the better box. I have my fingers crossed really hard that the shifter is going to just pop straight out of the standard hole in the tunnel. Stranger things have happened! Otherwise I’ll whip out the hole saw and start butchering, or potentially shorten the linkages if that’s a thing. TL:DR, I’m going to wing it
  25. So. This has been going on for years! I call it a bobber but I live in Chch, our roads are shit, so bobbers aren’t a great idea, so it’s not a bobber. Started like this. slowly turned into this I bought an exploded Honda rebel 450 and then hunted for ages for any engine to go in. Hoped for air cooled, struggled to find anything. finally a bandit 600 engine and loom showed up on trade me. I took my frame there to see if it would fit. There was NO WAY it would fit. So I bought it anyway. Story gets weird here. I had it and the frame sitting and garage doing nothing. Got really drunk one night and kinda had one of those crazy blackouts. Woke up in the morning and the engine is not only in the frame, but the whole thing is up on a desk in my garage. Couldn’t get the fucker down off the desk by myself and couldn’t get the engine out for aaaages. Modified frame to suit, did some other stuff, then put project on hold while I was between permanent houses. Trying to get stuck back in now. Most of wiring is done, just needs foot controls mounted (forward now). Also, my low rider with this new school twin coat powder coat. Sold now And my brothers K100
