Wow! Are these actually going for that sort of money? I saw it there but wasn’t sure about the price given what they were normally going for. I got offered two recently, both running when parked and a bunch of NOS parts sourced from Germany in the 80s. 5K’ish for the lot.

Buy them then maxxx profit. The owner of the green one reckons one sold on Trademe in worse condition than his for 35k within hours....

  2. Those with a keen eye might see past the title and listing of this auction and see he has an NSU RO80.

Then read the questions where he claims to have 7 x RO80 and he encourages calls about them.

    Must be a piner on here in need of some RO80 action;

Cant believe the value of these now, 45k? This someones on here?

10 years ago you couldn't give them away and now they are worth genuine RX-3 sedan prices with the demand 100x lower?

Not too sure - maybe explained by Flauski?

While it had the KEEPQN plates it was owned by a guy called Luke in Auckland

I dunno, all I know was a fella named Hagen had one in Tauranga around 2000-2002 that was the same colour. Maybe he sold it to Luke in Auckland. It also didn't have the rear rotorholikz? sticker. I'm sure it didn't have titans when he had it but the wheels in this pic look familiar. Didn't have a pplate either.

  5. I have one of those (different box but prob the same internally) from Ali.

Mine is a piece of crap, it makes a high pitched interference noise when nothing is playing, but can't hear when it's playing music so I put up with it.

  6. No the new one is also blue but actually a JDM Nissan Skyline not a Datsun 240k. It came from Auckland. AFAIK it's the only one in nz. Pic in my avatar is the new one. I'm using Instagram for the new one @kenmeri_nz

One day @RUNAMUCK I will give you that ride, it may be that I pick you up from the rest home and take you out for lunch.

Mine will always be my first proper project car.

Started off as a rusty B1600, got all new sills, pillars, doors, guards, did a 13b conversion, then decided to cut the NOS guards up to fit the genuine 12a RX3 nose one.

Has been quite a controversial build, but I loved the result. I did all of the work on it including panel and paint.

I started with zero skill.  120hrs of sanding, 1 year build start to finish.

Surely you regret it more at this level circa Nats 2002?

It’s not a rotary (yet) but being an autotragic it’s begging for a sweet monster J-Port...

$30k. Might be pushing it when you think back to that red manual one struggling to get $24k (listed price)

And when I struggled to get 32.5k for a full 808 conversion (full interior and fuel tank etc) with an Al Marsh bridgeport IDA, full stainless exhaust and tons of other fruit + Simmons only 6 months ago.

  10. No doubt there are plenty of other marque cars with the same rust issues. rusty360 was asking about Mazdas and I was just shard my experience of 3 from 3. Also there is a substantial amount of posts online with people around the world saying the same cars have rust issues.

99% of people wouldn't look under a car on a hoist. All 3 of these cars looked immaculate from up top.

I learnt a lesson, always get it on a hoist.

Be weary about pre purchase inspections though because what's OK to one inspector might not be to someone else. ala that slapping of underseal pic (which was obviously OK in some entry compliance persons eye...) look yourself too.

I doubt Japanese grading extends to a full inspection underneath and with so many shonky car yards around they are 100% bringing in low grade crap that shouldn't even be allowed to be imported.

I guess we are in a era where people really do need to be super weary of imports again.

  11. My experience with these is pretty bad.

Love the look of the Mazda wagons and there is nothing the same generation for around 10k that looks anywhere near as nice.

I started looking more specifically at the 4WD Atenza (JDM version) to replace our tired Primera wagon. Never followed through....

I looked at 3 of them, between 2009-2011 and all around 100,000km on clock. All had the same problem - rust.

Rust in the floor plan, rust in the rear suspension components and factory exhausts completely rusted and barely still together.

One of them was so bad, I don't even know how it was complied. Well actually I do, they got a rattle can and sprayed the entire underside (including the sump) and slapped on layers of underseal to try and hide it. It wasn't until I moved the drain bung in the boot floor to see the rust. See pics below.

This car was the 2011 and looked immaculate if looking at the outside and interior, underneath was horrific and was imported in 2018. It had a noisey rear wheel bearing, it was pulled apart and seen to be in the worst condition I have ever seen and was on the verge of collapse:

    ra0q0Bal.jpg

    Photos don't look as bad as it was in real life around the bung;

How the f is this compliable in 2018? People have to strip entire classic cars to get complied and this gets through with NO comments...

    bt0EP8Wl.jpg

It was actually unbelievable that these cars seemed to have such bad rust issues given their age. I have seen 50 year old cars with less rust.

Then I saw the interwebs and tons of people talking about the same issue. A mate that imports used cars from Japan speculated that the 4WD ones are more likely to be used in snow areas in Japan and therefore more likely to have had the rust speed up.

A Mazda 6 may be different because NZ new, but eventually it will be the same.Such a shame cause they look nice but given I saw three the same, I have been put off totally. It just highlighted to me that there are some real shonky importers and workshops prepared fudge stuff to get compliance.

  12. If your rebuild kit didn't come with a float valve replacement that will be your culprit for over fuelling.

As I pointed out, the original one was dicey and not operating smoothly.

Good to hear its runnin and smokin'!
