Curiosity got the better of me and I ordered one with a 2.8" touch screen. $28 shipped from aliexpress. Also a micropython book from the library.
I have a grain mill for flour, but each flour works differently from supermarket flour so I need more control over my bread maker. I also want to be able to do sourdough which needs a longer rise time.

And on the other end of the spectrum, Ze Germans built a car that traveled 2,573km off a 15.5kWh battery. That's 6 watt hours per kilometre!

I haven't touched microcontrollers for a long while, but I've got some projects coming up.
The first is a babelfish to go between my lithium battery and inverter so they can talk to each other. Luckily someone has written the code so it should be an easy one. He used an esp32, which on the face of it is kind of like arduino but cheaper and more powerful. Anyone got experience with these?

who is up for another "will it start?
Yeah why not. It will start.
#1 is nearest the pulley, the order is 1324. The carbs will be some sort of hitachi. I've got manuals if you need more info.

So now you're down to just three? Or did you find some more you haven't told us about?

You can put a hall sensor on the crank for hub drive motors and it detects when you're pedaling. A lot of mid drive motors just do this but the better ones have a torque sensor.

I thought I'd see him when he got back to town on Sunday @deankdx but he was delayed. I'll ask next time.
Also, have a look at the endless sphere website, a lot of people on there use power tool batteries.

Sintered work best when hot, semi metallic pads are meant to be best when cold.

My first thought is that if a quick Google doesn't relieve your fears about parts availability, they're probably well founded.

Easy. come get one of mine.

I'm housesitting there this weekend I'll try and get the lowdown.
People seem to use them in ebikes fine, just wired in series. I think older makita batteries didn't have a full bms they just told the tool to switch off via the 3rd pin. Problem is if you run the battery too low the bms bricks and you can't recharge it again.
Apparently the latest batteries have over discharge protection built in.

My mate did exactly that with two makita bateries. He says it works well.

Try your weedeater battery. Even though they say 56V they're 14S/52V.
-
Did they hacksaw the front off the subie box and tig it onto a bit of plate?
-
Just don't leave the car standing long enough to dry out the float bowls or it won't start again.
-
Communist amps don't work as hard because there's no reward.
Is your dad's bike hub or mid drive? My mate's got a 350w mid drive bosch and it goes pretty good for such a heavy beast but the gears help.
I don't know the battery size but on level 1 assist it would do 120km and level 5 I think it was more like 20.

The cells will last longer if you only charge them to 4V so maybe not a bad thing. Do you know the settings of the bms? Maybe it's cutting off the charge.
The motor will take whatever the controller throws at it, 500W is the continuous rating.
Did you get any air on the Brooklyn rd BMX track?

I came across these controllers. 200A continuous at up to 84V. 300A peak. That's about 20HP continuous in OS talk. Might suit your needs @dmulally

has a query.
re-mounting tidying up my concrete mixer, current motor 1/4Hp 1425rpm, non-cap.start....... will not run on 1000w continuous invertor
if i replace this motor with 1/2Hp twin cap start....... will the capacitors allow the invertor to run it ?Soft start might help? My 3600w inverter genny struggles with a concrete mixer.

I hope you're right. I've read a few cases of people pulling cheap batteries apart and finding no bms. Also people building house batteries and deciding they don't need a bms because they're using grade a cells, which tend to stay in balance pretty well. Once you go over 200A they get pretty expensive, but fires can be costly too.
-
I think a lot of the cheap scooters don't have a bms so they don't monitor and balance the cells within the pack.
Say you've got a 36V battery which has 10 cells in series, you'd charge it to 4.2V per cell, so 42V. Over time a few cells will end up with lower voltage and a few with higher voltage than the pack average. When you charge the pack to 42V some cells end up being charged above 4.2V and this is when they catch fire.
You don't hear much about fires from makita or Dewalt lithium batteries anymore because they monitor each cell during the charge and cut the power if any goes above max voltage. Aliexpress scooter and ebike batteries are a different story, and I wouldn't charge one in my house or garage.

There are separate systems. For home charging, the actual charger is in your car and the thing you plug in just tells the car the max current it can draw.
For fast charging, the charger has a direct connection to the battery. The batteries are usually about 360V. I think the car bms tells the charger what voltage and current to pump in.

Miss 19 is looking to upgrade her 2003 Wingroad 1.5 litre auto for something with a bit more pep and street cred. She is saving up for something around the 6 to 8k mark. Has mentioned learning manual, but that severely limits options.
No BMWs or VWs.
Thoughts on anything you lot have owned or driven in this range?
Gotta be something sensible and japanese. How about an RX-8?
