Yeh I get ya, was more that you’d be able to do the assembly and porting etc yourself, using 2nd hand bits to keep costs down.  Aka Doug styles with his PP and that thing hums along real well.  But yep, if it goes bang through R&D then there’s not the abundance of cheap n easy to find parts

Don't forget the big savings to be had by not using genuine mazda housing seals but instead use appropriate sized electric cable.

Not kidding. I've seen it done.

I don't really get the arguments that steer by wire is safe for cars because planes use it.

Show me one person who will maintain a car to even half the standard that a plane is maintained to.

Planes also don't drive on 4wd tracks in wet mud at full throttle

Too right!  This new dang fangled 'technology' can sod off. It'll lead to nothing but trouble! Dangerous trouble! For example - just look at all the accidents caused by E throttles every day. Thousands killed!

Stick to our horses I say.  Technology has no place here!..

    Another thing

Imagine if you bought one, and wanted to use it for work?

You'd never get anything done, there would be so many people pestering you to take photos

Fit a full ranger body kit and blend in?

  4. I hated the thing. Its looks, the fact its Elon, its size. But after watching the vid snoozin posted up I have a new found appreciation for it. Its still ugly but those looks will soften and heck- so many modern cars and utes out there now have gone mad with the amount of over the top stylistic angry faces, extra vents, lights everywhere, stickers and badges proclaiming all sorts of crap, messy looking huge wheels and dashes/instrument clusters that look like a sci-fi electronics loving kid who's had far too many sweets has designed. The cybertruck is actually refreshing (but still ugly) and its going to hopefully make all the other manufacturers sit up and re-assess what is new.

I'm not a fan of any big vehicles and find the excessiveness of most suvs on NZ roads absurd. But its still fun to watch things like the ct happen, the new technology that Tesla are pushing and see the reactions from all corners.

  5. Coil over on the front. Divorced (never actually heard that term used before now) at the back. The back end is fine - the coils there remain captive.  Just these loose front springs to sort. I'd love it if I could swap the guts out and put in shorter inserts but I cant as they have non-servicable rolled over ends. If there was enough meat in the wall I'd cut the tops off the dampers, internally thread them and machine up some caps to retain some inserts.

  6. Are keeper/helper springs OK for certification? Like these sort of things..

    https://www.nzperformance.co.nz/bc-adjustable-suspension-keeper-helper-spring-pa-2

One of the things I'll have to deal with in the future is loose front springs (makita one ways) when the car jacked jacked off the ground. Iirc it's about 20mm gap. Currently the car has some very well secured straps, as is done extensively in the UK with imps wearing shorter springs. But I'm guessing this fix would not pass a cert?

So if my 'strap ons' are not good enough then it's some keeper springs or start looking into making some coilovers with shorter insert etc etc but that's a whole new set of questions.
