  1. decel? you wont be needing that. dont know if it was mentioned, but engine coolant sensors on old nissans can cause massive fuel usage. my FJ suffered from this big time. also, have you got the correct afm for the engine? they are pretty interchangable, but not the same as far as gas goes...
  2. yours has still progressed further than my 610 coupe in 10 years lol.
  3. looks like you do exactly what i do (im an instrumentation serviceman at nz steel) do you work nordske skog?
  4. probably can. im not sure how the end stopper works, dont want it to read minus revs when its off lol. then again it doesnt have any markings until 500 rpm anyway. might have a look tomorrow.
  5. spent the day sussing out how to make the factory tacho work, and tidy up the wiring. made this circuit up i found on the net, to test if it worked. as its supposed to running wasted spark setup, in theory i only need to tap off coils 1 and 2. well it ended up only reading half RPM that it should, and the needle had more moves than a bowl full of jelly. i retried using taps off all 4 coils, which made it read full RPM, but had to put a zener diode in series which stopped the jitterry needle problem. so i ended up making this to hide it all in... i had to also put a 2.2Kohm resistor in series, as that is what my car normally has in the factory tacho wiring. all works sweet now, although it looks like my factory tacho in the dash has always read around 120 - 150 RPM high. not to worried though, just happy it works! i put this here incase it helps someone else in the future...
  6. semi slicks, thats pretty serious man! yeah, ive got a lot of fiddly bits still to do to. theres nothing holding the airfilter in, half a dashboard and no rear seats yet. on a side note, bosch 044 pumps are REALLY loud. not sure i approve. backseat may shut it up a bit.
  7. take it for a lap around the block today. seems more powerful than its even been, even with only seat of the pants tune in it. starts, warms up and idles pretty good now too. muchly happy...
  8. ah cheers CDL, whats amazing is it started first attempt. hey Ed, been googling and shit just gets more confusing all the time. found a unit that will do it, but havent found a circuit diagram for it yet...
  9. yay! finally... only real issue is no factory tacho. looks like i'll need to make a tacho adaptor board to get the tacho working. may be tricky with multi coil running wasted spark setup too.
  10. well it runs! still sounds tractor spec, as its only on the base map. will spend tomorrow getting it running as good as i can before dyno time...
  11. finally got motivated to make up the coil mounts. pretty resigned to the fact its gonna look a bit rangi no matter how i mount them... still have to drill a couple of hole to mount it properly, just hop the drill will fit in there. took kyteler's advice and moved them to the strut tower, but thinking im going to have to make a heatshield of sorts.
  12. made up a gear plate to fit up the computer/ignitor in the passenger kickwell, out of some old powder coated aluminium sheet i had laying around. fits ok, but needs a little trimming to get the footwell cover to fit in properly. i'll tidy up the wiring once i figure out where it will clear the fan unit. in other news, looks like i might have scored this from Austraaalia, top mount for my T3/T4 ive had for ages...
  13. yes, we could have a old man north vs. south walking frame race at the same time! haha
  14. unfortunately no. the 2 main looms run through there, and theres not enough clearancefrom the engine. FJ's tend to rock around a bit... i even looked at mounting them infront of the rocker cover, but the bonnet is so close, theres no way it would work. the only other option was the passengers strut tower, but that would mean getting a custom set of leads made as 2 of them are too short. fcuk.
  15. got a bit achieved today... had to remove the fan, glovebox, dash cluster and aircon condensor box, to get in to fit the computer, and to run wiring to dash for the rev counter. ive had to make a template to mount all the bits where the old computer was, as there's zero room anyway else. i'll make up a mounting plate this week. finished wiring in the power feeds and fuel pump etc. only have the fan relay to go. turns out there is no factory relay for the fan, so will have to fit one(thats the loose wire still in there...) im going to have to mount up the coilpacks around the firewall. basically where the ignition leads go in the pic. far from ideal, as its near the ecu loom, and right above the exhaust. pretty much stuck with the location, as thats all the leads will reach to. tried all sorts of options, but none of them would clear the bonnet, and a new set of FJ leads aint too cheap. will have to make mount for the coils, along the lines of this, minus duct tape(probably). hoping to be able to fire it up within the week all going well
  16. watched your vid, lol at scissors... and lazyboy specs seats! do like
  17. my old dr30 had a switch on the dash to only use the outer taillights, and inners were off. i think it was a kind of park light setup. cant remember what they did under brakes though. maybe to do with that?
  18. running already! you sir have put my efforts to shame....keen to tow my car to nats? lol.
  19. The microtech computer install is turing into a bastard. the loom has too much wiring to fit into the black sleeving tube they supplied, and nowhere that's open seems to have any today. thier supplied manual isnt to crash hot either... made some progress, so not a total waste of time. p.s. thanks nissan for changing every plug, wire colour, and position of things. not one matches the factory manual....gah!
  20. Ok, so long time since an update... Been using it a bit since nats last year, and started having issues with the EFI system. First the fuel pump dropped its lollies, so i fitted a Bosch 044 intank, which turned into a mission as its only able to barely fit into the tank due to its size. but its in there and running... Tried swapping out all sorts of bits, but decided its time to go aftermarket ECU. I've had this Microtech LT10s sitting around for a while, so best make use of it! out with the old...(sorry, dodgy phone pics...). this is only some of it. i've ended up with a growing pile of shit on the floor, hope its not needed! and now to make sense of this birdsnest... i want the loom to look as close to factory as possible. i hate botched looking wiring jobs. laying out the loom how it needs to be in the car... and the manifold end pretty much sorted.. still working on the seperate feeds for fan and fuel pump etc. i need to move all this wiring away from the turbo where it normally is, so im hiding it in the inner guard which has made for quite a lot more work. Ive given up for the night, but will hopefully be nearly sorted tomorrow.
  21. my alternator decided to eat itself for breakfast... somehow the armature winding broke free and made a sweet copper birds nest and to top it off, strained my back swapping it out. i'll call round one a draw...
  22. ive got some 15 X 7" turbos that im using to wheel my datsun round on at the moment. i think they are +5 offset. you're welcome to try one to give you an idea...
  23. at work till midnight. maybe see yous next meet then
  24. yeah was good to finally put a face to the name! after a whole weekend driving it, im not so sure a trip to akaroa would be on the cards lol. the things a bit of a bone shaker...
