  1. Well it's started, I spent a couple of evenings mapping what the various switch and plug connectors do. I was helped pretty significantly by the laminated wiring diagrams that came with the car. Doing this bit is so satisfying, I like how it gives a shape to what is needed and actually makes interpreting the wiring diagrams so much easier. Then a couple of night later; I need more coloured wire and a shitload of Deutsch connectors. The headlight and hazard switches have some truly funky shit going on. I ended up having to swap out and repin the new loom flasher relay for the old X one, the new one was a two pin and the old one was a 3 pin. With the switch madness I had to replicate the original flasher/hazard circuit otherwise I couldnt get the indicator lights to work properly, mostly because there is only one instrument cluster light for either direction. Anyway I have since moved all that to a bigger table and cranked into it. I currently have the key working and switching a main relay to power on the other relay circuits, the indicator stuff working and the heater fan. Next is the wipers, then the lights. I'll need to get it in the car to check lengths then I can actually terminate everything properly. Fun fun fun...
  2. Obviously it primes for 3 seconds then waits for a minute of churning. Then it probably cant tell if the weak coil signal is actually the car running so never turns on...
  3. The one I bought runs for 3 seconds on power on, the stops til it gets a signal from the coil. Should be perfect.
  4. Ah I just bit the bullet and ordered the relay from the Metric Nut, $140 to not get burned alive kindof makes sense.
  5. Yea this is pretty much what i had in mind.
  6. It could be this but the pump would still run all the time, it is reasonably loud. I saw something somewhere which was some sort of switching if/then logic gate.
  7. Hey y'all I am looking for something to act as a fuel cutoff for my X1/9. Currently the fuel pump runs when the key is on regardless if the engine is going, and as I am doing the rewiring thing I thought i might as well do things right. I have found this that might work, although it is spendy; https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/car-parts-accessories/other-accessories/listing/4289397427 Or this, also kindof spendy. https://themetricnut.co.nz/store/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=1724 Is there anything else I should be looking at? Potentially I could wire a standard relay to the oil pressure warning light circuit as a cheap fudge, I don't know if this is really a good idea or not. Thoughts?
  8. Yea I wanted to buy a weber for the 2y in @Nominal's townace at one point, Murry wasn't all that to deal with and was fucking expensive. I do keep records of old projects, maybe it will be in there.
  9. I have a feeling I ordered a whole lot of stuff from the states or the uk last time, I vaguely remember it felt dodgy at the time.
  10. Where is the best places to get some jets and air tubes etc? Cheap and slow/overseas would be fine. I cant remember where I got this stuff from last time I needed it ..
  11. Pointing slightly upwards, low beam; High Beam Yea na
  12. I dont recall it being too much of an issue, im pretty sure i could wear my steel caps without too much drama. I have been subscribed for a while so have seen it anyway, one of my favourite youtubers....
  13. I might even take a pic or two for everyones viewing pleasure.
  14. Pedal movement isn't an issue for me, Im 6'3". I did all sorts of things to make me fit but clutch to the floor was a given. The box wasnt too bad, you just had to be slower than you wanted into 3rd. Who knows what hamfisted shenanigans have been going on in the ladt few years tho.
  15. I just checked, they do not achieve any meaningful standard for beam pattern. They are so shit I am not even sure they are worth selling on.
  16. Wife has been all 1984 about this, the thought police etc. cos she found my copy of the Haynes manual under my chair. I told her she cannot control what i think and it turns out waterboarding isnt so bad. To be subversive i have not only been thinking about it but also buying things like this collection of wiring components. The extra relays are to replace the dogshit ones that came with that relay box. The big one is a dedicated headlight type.; And thanks to @ynot I have a heater box now. My heater tap was seized and I broke it trying to free it up so I have ordered a generic replacement. So that is possibly the last missing item, but probably not. Tony also gave/lent me a spare gearbox as well altho it isn't a 1500 5 speed. It is either out of a Fiat Ritmo or it is a 4 speed with 5 speed internals grafted in. If it is a Ritmo the ratios might be better suited according to the internet. I can't use it as is because the output is the tripode type not the CV type on my car, but the internals should swap over ok. This is just in case my gearbox 3rd gear crunch has gotten worse, we will see in due course.
  17. I was just surprised at the lack of branding info etc. Maybe ill plug them into something and see what they do
  18. No idea, I haven't hooked them up. You have to assume they do the correct job tho, otherwise why buy them...?
  19. Are these legal to use? The X1/9 came with these not the standard sealed beams. There is no branding and almost no marking on them.
  20. Thats good cos you can scrape it up out of the gutter and pour it back in. Infinite recyling.
  21. Ok I will check that relay setup. It is all going to be pre set up in its entirety on a bench so hopefully i will catch any fuckery before its actually installed...
  22. Please don't make me see such things.
  23. A solution to the spagetti has arrived; There will need to be extra relays set up for the headlight and headlight motors, I'll see what I can find

So what is prepsol? Just a solvent? Wouldnt the scotch Brite expose more bare metal to rust up again? Also what happens with the phosphoric etc of there is still paint on there or should it all come off?

Ok I just watched a vid of someone using it, it made sense. It looks like deoxidine is essentially the same thing as Oakite. I might mess with a panel and see what happens.
