  1. lol oh boy...i was intending on chopping out rear guards for them hence why i havent been fussy bout tidying up the rust round the current ones..i figure its all being chopped out soon anyway! but oh man i hadn't considered going THAT far - lol some more detailed planning might be in order...
  2. lol wont be for a couple of months till i start looking round seriously
  3. because i'm abit lazy/don't have time to trawl through all the pages... can you tell me where you get your bubble flares from? I really wanna put some on mine but bit dubious about shapes of ones on trademe...
  4. I GET MY CAR BACK TOMORROW! not finished but I can have it to run around and play with for 3 weeks till mechanic mate comes back from holiday...
  5. Esky finally came home from mechanics yesterday. but by no means finished. still wont run smooth at 50km/h (although it now accelerates beautifully and roars like it should again so SOME progress has been made from the valve grind), brakes still being a pain so will have to look further into that... still have a tappet tick but need to give new head gasket time to settle before investigating that further...spoke to senior mechanic yesterday and further options we suspect will be replane-ing the header, and if that isn't the noise maker then it looks like will have to enter the painfully expensive world of cam shaft rebuild ...oh bugger. bit disapointing, long road still ahead of us to get her running sweet but will be worth it in the end...
  6. Esky has been off the road for some time due to brake issues but those have now been sorted after the installation of a new brake master cylinder, and machining my very old drums back into shape as they had distorted somewhat after many years of wear! Esky is now away from home, sitting at mechanics awaiting the much anticipated valve grind! hope this will be worth the dollars! when it comes back it will then be heading to panelbeater to get the ding under the drivers door sorted. im then looking forward to being able to drive it for abit whilst I'm saving to take it back to Aztech to remove all its appearing rust! will probably be driving it with great huge panels of primer on it for the foreseeable future ...might be able to afford a new top coat for her by end of next year...maybe...
  7. the friend it is for is willing to pay for the cars definately - he knows it's not a "box of beers" job and was at the last wedding with us and was equally horrified when we discovered the bottom line that was offered... they just cant stretch to the $900odd that most of the hire places in welly are asking for! and thank you Kyteler -if someone is wanting to head to wellington for the weekend and has a suitable car then they are most welcome to offer also just for the record I think Lee had a better experience at the first wedding he helped out with for me - he got to drive SYKOV6's fairlane for the weekend - did a quick stint at the wedding in palmy with us and then drove on down to welly with quite a nice wad of cash and decent bottle of booze for memory...he got a weekend away in sweet car and we got nice car for wedding...win win
  8. Hey guys, after two nice cars for mates wedding in welly for 30th November NEXT YEAR. anyone know any nice ones that dont cost an arm and leg? need them for bout 3 hours. all offers/suggestions welcomed. i have told him to contact local vintage car club to ask if they have any options too...
  9. seriously guys? did we have a severe camera shortage this year? usually more photos of drunken antics up by now
  10. not so much "stuck" as "lets not press the button to bring it back upstairs again cause in our drunken state that could seem really funny...." yeah? i admit i did suddenly ponder that possibility when i reached the bottom... but i'll do it again next year willingly too
  11. it'll make it to 10 no problems. I will be making sure to continue my attendance so i can jump up and down and go "woo been here for ALL TEN!!" hehe.
  12. right - the radiator was totally blocked so got it rodded and back into the car last night (thankyou Dad and Duddley) car much happier now but am using our back-up car till the weekend as i want to finish the job properly and get some engine flush/radiator flush through it before she goes back to dailying. still intending to take it for quotes for engine rebuild/rust removal though. (might be time to start investigating flares...)
  13. Not good at updating. over the last year we have: Replaced manifold with brand new one. Replaced all gaskets. Replaced ignition coil, replaced ignition leads, all points and plugs and tested compression numerous times. have repaired the carb twice, wired the exhaust back on three times, given up on dodgy amp for stereo (sometimes it works...sometimes it dont...but its not a priorty) replaced brake master cylinder replaced carb got upset when i looked at all the rust that is creeping through in a number of spots round the body... replaced radiator cap and most recently - have removed radiator for back-flush to remove rubbish/ascertain if it is blocked after its nonsense over the weekend at nats. will have to get it rodded if back flush is insufficient. there has probably been ALOT more that has been fixed over the year but as it is my daily i tend to just sort stuff and carry on and forget to note it all... after a long hard look at its performance over the last couple of years i will be biting the bullet and finding a way to get it a professional rebuild including valve grind etc. Esky has not been truly running happy for a very long time and is used/abused as the daily so bout time i showed it some proper love. will also be returning to Aztech panelbeaters in the near future to get JasonK/Rossco to have a look at the rust/floorpan and find out what kind of wallet damage i am looking at for that...
  14. I get to take credit for the name! yay! (my main contribution so far i have to admit - other than doing the whole being there for the "pass me that spanner there wouldja luv" requests...)
  15. found a missing sur-clip on carb, then found split in fuel line, adjusted tappets AGAIN (they keep shifting themselves), changed timing AGAIN (to compensate for happier engine), ... oh and please see "Parts for Sale" section. I need a new brake master cylinder. mine wont quit with the leaking despite having new seal set put in it. ah i love ongoing projects....
  16. i can live with that. lol car all happy now. fixed a myriad of little issues last night (everytime we undid something it showed up something else...) so its all good now! thanks for input everyone!
  17. As tempting as that prospect is (and no i dont think Duddley would get ever so slightly jealous at all...)...no thanks! haha Will decline offer of carb for now with thanks- have found one amongst our spares so will give that a whirl first....
  18. how much are you after for it? im sure i can find someone to bring it up for me the current carb seems to be working fine but screw it- ive replaced everything else i can think of...whats one more aye. lol
  19. yes have replaced the condenser and have set everything according to factory settings. no dice.
  20. Hey all, getting desperate for ideas now- what can you throw at me... My 1600 kent crossflow engine has been playing up for a while now. Has lost alot of pulling power, constant tappet ticking, generally runs rougher than it used to, and when i try to drive at a steady speed below 60kmh it surges (and i mean REALLY bounces) its way along. Carb all seems to be working sweet (apart from the fact the blimmin gates have started tapping) so doesn't seem to be fuel issue, have replaced points/plugs/distrib cap/ignition coil...........i'm running out of ideas. compression tests have returned a steady 180 across the board (couldnt ask for better!), have tried screwing with the tappet adjustment and advancing the timing- not helping. all useful suggestions welcome but please spare me the time-wasting "replace it with a 4age/ 2litre etc." crap okay?
  21. i had exact same thought. was mildly terrifying for a moment there... but yeah keen. we should make an effort to all roll the next one. count me and duds in.
