  1. gimmie gimmie gimmie i want to hear those gears screaming there tits off!!!! oh well, i dont know anyone in wellington that could pick up any parts so i guess im shit outa luck.. really want this other gearbox in though just need more knowledge!! i also know this other gearbox has been rebuilt so it will be mint once it finds it's way in do you have a pick of a mk2 GTE box? then i could tell you if it's that Just red your edit.. it is one of those alien three finger pressure plates and yes it is crap!! changing gear is a pretty decent work out.. so Hillman Hunter pressure plate then and a escort clutch plate is that what your saying the go is? with the extra hieght of the standard pressure plate how would it help a new one bolt up nice?
  2. i would keep the gearbox (i should say it now its my g,f's car) but it's absolutely poked the syncros are fully f'd and when i took out the gear lever there were bits of bearing everywhere even inside the bellhousing there was metal peices it sounded like a transformer when changing gear! from what i saw the tailshaft of the gearbox is the same hieght and length as the old mk1 one. what Mk1 gearbox stuff do you have? really want to stick the other gearbox in as it will be stronger and soooo much better to drive! im so confused! dam work heres a pick of the car to get more people inspired to help! its an old pick its lower now and has been tiytied up alot we got it standard of an ol guy out west..got heapsa motor goodies for it cheers for all the help
  3. hmmmmmmm youve giving me lots to think about o wise one. the gearbox came with the car to so it cost me nothing umm ill try get a pick up tomorow of it or atleast the numbers on the side. is the GT cast steel or alloy? if it means anything it a pretty f'n light gearbox. crap $120 for a casting thats not what i wanted to here. I have a mate that works at BNT Ryan (my flat mate) and hes stumped as in what i should do... do you have any idea whats needs doing to the release bearing ie. how its got about a mllion surclips holding it in and how it could change to a newer one? if i was going to use the escort clutch setup? with that setup my only worry is how frigin wierd the standard mk1 pressure plate looks and it's height I know the input shaft shroud has the same diameter as the cortina one (ive measured it up) and this might sound like a dum as f**k question but expain chekcing crank loadings can get pics of all my problems and woos one the weekend as the cars in aux. and yes my spelling and english sux its been a looooong day designing crap
  4. haha sorry about that im in Whangarei but come down to auckland evey weekend the old gearbox is exactly the same in every dimension ive measured it alot and from alot of diff angles...maybe the old guy was wrong it does have a GTE tag on it but anyone can put that on..maybe a mk2 gearbox? i know the gear stick comes out in a different place thats what a angle grinder and welder is for to make a new and cover old one just for reference the old gearbox was the type with the massive gear stick as for the handbrake and bench seat the car has racepros and has a "UTE" style handbrake so theres no problem there i was definitly thinking that i should just get a nolathane one made up who would do casting in auckland? would the old spigot bearing be "o.k" or would i need to get some kind of custom joby made up (have access to lathes) just wondering if i could get something off the shelf cheers
  5. one more thing does anywhere do new gearbox rubber mounts? the one on it at the mo is flogged out beyond repair cheers for all the help
  6. cheers for all the replys BNT doesnt stock them as for being down south im not im up north id be keen to get this goose13 dudes number and see what he has and does anyone know who would sell a spigot bearing? going to use a mk3 gearbox (an old guy said it was) and just bolt on the coritna bellhousing everything things the same length wise size but the input shaft is slighty smaller in diameter could just get a copper one made up i guess?
  7. can someone please tell me where the F**K i can get a new clutch kit for my g/f's cortina need pressure plate and all it been a mission trying to sorse anything please help just after standard stuff found a place in aussie but dont want to spend as much as they want cheers Mark
  8. what thickness plate would it have to be?? would it be sweet just tacking the plates to the floor?
  9. haha your waaaay on the wrong track there a bolts holding the rails down front and back there were only to holes on the drivers side that were original (the bench seat only had two rails in total) so two new holes were drilled (by the tunnel) and everything fits and lines up perfectly nothing dodgey or malested (bar the two new holes) will gets some pics up soon which will explain everything alot more clearly
  10. just two as there was originally only two easch side for the bench seat
  11. all sorted fullas just for future refernce the seat rails out of a 1988 peugot 5 door wagon basically fit straight in a mk1 using 2 orignal holes each side and not needing changing for the racepro seat rails atall pretty much are made for it
  12. i know the whole seat rail hole business just would rather keep it all original without malesting the floor of the poor thing. not all mk1's came out with bench seats all good then just thort atleat one person would have done it on here
  13. just a quick question does anyone know what seat rails will bolt directly into a mk1 cortina with a standard bench seat? i im thinking the rails out of one that had seats but will the mounts be there? if so does anyone have some for sale????? or is there another rail that works alright i dont mind a bit of fabrication any help would be awesome
  14. they seat rails were standard mk2 escort wagon ones the same as sedan ones and the brackets were factory racepro bracets that you see on almost any racepro seat ill try source a pic but its pretty self explaning...they went straight on dont know about other seat brands but racepros are almost made for em
  15. had racepro buckies on standard escort rails and normal racepro brackets and they went straight in no welding no nothing piece of piss

    mazda horn wire

if your horns in the steering wheels it works when u push it down it earths the horn in turn making it "beep" so check the horn button for it constantly earthing ive got heaps spare if u need one
  17. i had 205's on my escort wagon with 14"S and i just rolled them myself it. came out sweet i just took an angle grinder to it rolled the lip that comes of the guard underneath which made a fuck load of difference then angle grinded inside the guard to stop it hitting the side of the arch up the top then rolled the guard with some hieniken bottles turned out mint..and my wags was on its bump stops and like magic no more rubbing
  18. when i put the 2litre in my escort it definitly looked like the bonnet was going to hit but after putting it on it was sweet as used orignal mounts to
  19. mk1 and mk2 diffs are exactly the same talked to a diff guy when i blew my mk2 he gave a mk1 gt and didnt hav2 change a thing didnt notice any diff. wat so ever in the ratios ps. any1 know where any mk1 or mk2 cortina diffs are i keep blowing the bastards time for a locka me thinks

    Fitting Buckies

ive got 2 racepros in my escort wags they had the racepro brackets with them and they bolted up to the orignal seat rails with no mods at all!!!!
  21. sand the tits off it with wet and dry for hours!!!!!
  22. so r u using a 5speed box aswell?? just wanting to kow what combo out of the eski 4speed and starter and the cortina 4speed and starter works
  23. i know this has probly been talked about a million times but i couldnt find it after searching for hours.. im putting a 2litre in my escort wags and im pretty much done except the starter motor..i bolted up the original eski box with its starter motor on and it wouldnt engage the flywheel (its the older starter motor without the solenoid on the back) then tryed using the one off the cortina 4speed box on the escort box (the cortina boxwas originaly on the motor) but that wouldnt grab the fly wheel either!! instead of giving the tunnel a bit of love to fit the bigger 4speed box (which ill do if need be) just wondering what starter motors other people are using on theier 2litre conversions cheers
