  1. i got a dissy out of a South African built 1600 sierra as they had 1600 crossflow and electronic dissy. which works really well. i also have a lucus dissy from burton power, havent fitted it yet. also i have heard you can get a dissy from nissan pulser and swap the drive gear and cut off the bracket and put the escort 1 on. I started to do this but when i cut the bracket off you need to machine the shaft and when i was doing it, it came out of the chuck and broke and could be bother continuing with it.
  2. i got the pannel van acid dipped. http://www.mchem.co.nz/strip_magic_about.html The company has now got a new owner so i dont know what they are like but the previous owner was no good to do a whole car it would be about $1600 I would not do it again. Next time im going to sand blast the under body and media or soda blast the body
  3. i think ive sorted it. it had the total the wrong clutch on it. went to sterling brake and clutch and picked up a new 1, the new 1 is 11mm taller so hopefully that will be enoughthe the release bearing is slightly larger as well.
  4. the clutch fork is touching the hole before you press the clutch. The other bell housing the hole has been made larger. it looks like the clutch is sitting to far foward I know i could just replace the bell housing but i would like to back to normal. if anyone could help it would be great.
  5. I was changing the gearbox on an escort yesterday and i found the previous owner had modified the flywheel and bell housing with the new gearbox the clutch doesnt work. Im trying to find out if i get a new flywheel it will fix the problem. Does anyone have a pinto and a flywheel that the can measure for me? currently it is about 46mm I need to know the distance from the back of the block to the face of the flywheel.
  6. its the bilstien inserts and the camber tops that cost.
  7. close. It was abit cheaper as i already had the capri struts. I priced up getting all the parts and it wasnt much cheaper to do it myself. The struts have been shortened by about 50mm so i can have it low with still alot of travel.
  8. Picked up the suspension today also picked up the sway bar. Chris at suspension tech has done a great job.
  9. http://www.mchem.co.nz/strip_magic_about.html i would like to give more updates but its hard to do updates when nothing has been done to it. Ill try and get more done this weekend
  10. The tacho arrive the other month I started taking it back to bare metal. Under seal is the worst thing to remove. First i used a heat gun and scraped as much crap off as i could. Then i used a wire cup to remove the rest and this is the results of a weekends work. i even tried sand basting it off and it took even longer. So in the end i decided to get the whole car acid dipped as the paint was all cracked and all needed to come off. I mangaged to find a place that would dip the whole car. I got it back yesterday it its not as many holes as i thought there would be. The doors cam back with only a couple of holes and now they look new the gaurds arent too bad a few holes but most of it still solid. The stripper managed to loose a couple of parts hopefully they will find them in a tank today. I also got the rear leaf springs reset 3" lower and took the front struts to suspension tech to get made into coil overs with bilstein front and rear also getting a 24mm swaybar, need to pick them up next week. So the next job for me is to go around and repair all the holes and get it ready for paint.
  11. should be the same as this http://www.oldschool.co.nz/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7762
  12. this is what you will need if you use a escort clutch part# APC1 from burton power.
  13. no idea i think they sent it to the auckland city branch. This was like 6 years ago.
  14. BNT rebuilt my cortina 1. but i found that wasnt good enough so i got an escort 1600 clutch. but you need to make a spacer for the bearing
  15. for gaz here are some more pics to explain it better i got all the parts from Rally design in the UK http://www.rallydesign.co.uk watts linkage 170 pounds world cup x member 130 pounds shipping does really kill but if you make you order large its not so bad. the bubble guards cost about $1000 NZ to ship here i think palmside get there stuff from rally design ( cut out the middle man)
  16. i got everything from rally design. there are round rubber mounts that go inside the tubes and brackets on the engine bolt to each end of that rubber mount.(hard to explain).
  17. here is a couple more pics of a few more thing i have got for it the guages are Smiths motor sports. just have to wait till feb for the tacho to be made and sent from england
  18. still removing rust!!!! and need to mount the new steel bubble guards. that my job over christmas.. Just bought a new compressor which should run my air tool properly, and hopefully get a new AC/DC tig next week. pick up some new gauges ill post some pic of them
  19. Its been over a year since i updated this i havent really done alot on it been too busy with work. The only good thing about that is ive managed to get more money to buy the nice things for it. just need time to get them out of the box and on to the car. Ive decided to change a few things on it im removing the fibreglass guards and replacing them with steel 1's. Im going to get it stripped back to bare metal sand and media blast it (just need to find a place to do it) Ive got most of the parts that i need all i need is the gauges (which i should get this week) and to get the front struts changed to coil overs. and of course get the body work done. Ive Repaired a bit of the rust but i think its going to be a christmas job. I finaly got my alloy hubs and mags 5 16" x7" super 8 as you can see there is much room but i could of gone down to a 15" which i might do later last sunday i built this so it might make it easier to put all the under body stuff on like watts linkage and anti trap bars and seat bolt mounts. hopefully i might be able to get alot done over christmas so i can get it to the paint shop.
  20. you can buy DBA disc's http://www.dba.com.au/2006/PDF_CATALOGUE/Catalogue_AUST/2007_AUSTCatalogue_180607.pdf Part number DBA118 or DBA118SL and DBA118SR for slotted 1's repco or super cheap should beable to order them. Super cheap was alot cheaper than repco when i got my cortina 1's a couple of years ago. or you could ring 0800 brakes and order from them. http://www.racebrakes.co.nz/ they should be less than $100 each.
  21. i think this is the pic you want. i have been looking for these guards but i have not been able to find them.i think they are a Zakspeed special fibreglass guard. i have found most bubble gurads are the same the rear guards are very flat and not as round as the front. Ive got a set of steel bubble guards from england abt 3 months ago and they are the same as the fibreglass ones i already had.
  22. This is what im putting on my escort. http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=609_681_683&products_id=4308 http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=609_687&products_id=4347 I havent had time to go check my Mk1 Cortina to see it theywould work. i dont know how the RX7 diff would handel the watts linkage. or for a pan hard rod http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=609_681_685&products_id=4318 or if you want to make your own rods you can just order the bushes. they just use 15mm and 20mm and 4mm pipe. Hope this helps
  23. this is the tool you want http://www.sulco.co.nz/Product?Action=View&Product_id=911 what i found the top pin was easy to get out but the bottom pin doesnt want to come out so i ended up rocking the door up and down till it broke hope this helps
  24. just email them telling them they seem to have sent the wrong ones. they should sort it out only problem you will have to pay for the shipping back. this is the risk you take when buying stuff from overseas!
  25. just measured my superlites and the gap between the pistons is 75mm. so if it is less than that they must of sent you the wrong ones.
