Leaf owning family member has been towing their tandem trailer with ride on mower / garden waste for years.
Hey Ned, what were those spare wheel kits worth / are they coming back?
I am getting a sample soon from a new manufacturer, and will then get a bunch made. Will depend what they cost, they used to be 450, hope we can keep them the same price but better quality from new manufacturer

cant recall if we touched on this here (I say that a lot here)
Nissan does not want people towing with leafs. The factory has said that they are not suitable and you can find a few articles about it.

Just get a used import from a dealer thats not a cunt and be sweet for 3 years? Thats genuinely my 2c on what to do tbh. Having not been in cars or car sales before, it was crazy to see that some car yards are not run by shit cunts haha. I've converted my entire family over to buy from (nice) dealers because consumers guarantees act has you pretty well covered for anything. Just google them and see how often they ended up in court before you buy, as those you wanna avoid haha

That towbar didnt fall off, a truck hit the camper it was pulling and thats why the back end let go. Personally not upset with that outcome?
Towing with EVs is all about aero, not about weight. No need for special trailers with electrical connections as the car will regen anyway and no point getting the traielr to be any more complicated.
You 1/2 your range immediately, and doesnt matter if its an empty cage trailer, or a loaded car trailer
We tow 2.5T probably 60,000km a year and its mint (unless your driver runs over some traffic islands )
Trailer is braked and tied to brake pedal not lights, so we can regen down hills and dont use the trailer brakes until we press the pedal (lights come on when regen braking FYI)- 6

@UTERUS i know you dont like tent walls, but you should buy it anyway
-
eco usually just changes throttle curve, so you can still mash the pedal and send it... foot down in eco or foot down in normal is much the same

we can usually do 8 weeks from buying in japan to customer driving it away... so its at the end of the run, for sure!

we bought the 3 cheapest leafs in japan when the rebate came out, like 5k landed with a 3.5k rebate cheap, but 1 needed 3k at compliance and the charger doesnt work, and 1 has a really really bad battery and needed a bit at compliance also, and 1 was ok and is now driving around town but also needed a bit at compliance.
The 2 other ones will make 1 good one and 1 parts car, but they were supposed to be $1500 leafs and are in reality 5k leafs which made them less appealing for how bad they were- 1

i can tell you how that ended up for us haha, we bought 3 and only 1's on the road lol

i put a cheeky bid on it for lols, problem is that they didnt make it to NZ and parts are harder to get because of it, so wont be a cheap fix...
RWD too- 5

just buy a full EV i3, they are super fun to drive with their little pizza cutter wheels!
-
its because BYD was the biggest EV producer in the world, and that gave them a good name. There have been other BYDs here as parallel imports, and they are ok enough. Drive bad, but the tech works and they do high ks as taxis in singapore without too many issues

If you want to get range, you can't drive 110 and you cant overtake, if you do those, you're killing the range by heaps...
drive at 100 and dont overtake and drive nicely and you'll get closer to those numbers.
e.g. i can drive my leaf so i run out before auckland, and i can arrive at 30% depending on how i drive. Same with tthe model s with an 85kwh battery, i can arrive empty and with 30% all depending on how fast and nice i drive... so drive nicer or get a bigger range car

Just the warranty. You don't wanna own a Tesla without a warranty as the bills get quite high once you get to motor and battery issues.
So far 3s are pretty good, but so were the S's when they were only a few years old, and the S was built 'without a budget', and the 3 was built to be the cheapest EV Elon could make, so that why personally I'd bail out of them without warranty.
Even stuff like water in the tail lights, my workmate is on his 4th replacement set for example. Fine under warranty, not so much out of warranty

i havent heard any actual news the feebate is stopping though right? I wouldnt worry too much about that personally?

Enjoy, give it death, and know that s far as 30kwh leaf batteries go, that one is pretty shit, so dont be put off too much by range etc of that particular one, it lives a hard life!

Anyone wanna try a leaf for a week or 2 in Wellington?
We have a loan car out there and we're not gonna be there for a week or 2 to pick it up, so if someone wants to womble around and try EV life.
It's a 30kwh Leaf, 2016, has a towbar

I hate it when the dealer limits my fuel tank to only fill up 3/4 or my car will burst into flames...
Would that almost fit the bill of no longer being "fit for purpose" under the cga?
not that far different than a car running in limp mode when it thinks theres something wrong with the motor though.... wonder if thats an issue that would have been triggered just for those 8 that burned down, or 10% of them or 50 or 80% or cars. Surely its a last ditched effort to stop a house from burning down, and gets the people to bring the car in for a battery fix?

Yeah, thats 'common' issue in even the newer 40kwh Leafs that have been hot.
Could be just a single dead cell being an issue, but usually its a bunch of sad cells in the middle of the pack that have been too warm and have degraded more than the rest. A re-shuffle of the cells inside the pack could/should extend the life a little, and i recommend anyone with a leaf over 100,000km or one showing temp issues does so, but i have no concrete proof (yet) that it helps and is woth the cost. Probably a $1500 job to shuffle them while not dying and making sure its water proof again after etc
