  1. new struts here today, turned out the KYB catalogue has got the right number after all. took a bit of searching though. front shocks cost $230 for the pair too, at least twice as much as what i wanted to pay but the g/f's old man is starting to get annoyed with the car just sitting in the garage so i couldn't wait for my hookup to come through. came with everything i need though, just have to go find someone to take 2" off them tomorrow then put them back in and she'll be rolling. also need to sort out my hazard lights and then hopefully ready for a cert. cheers Matt
  2. guess i'm wrong then. mine are 3" all around (76 mm), 2 and 3/4 would still be about 70 mm which is fuck all difference in the front. might be too low. maybe try going to snells springs and telling them how much lower you want it, at least they guarantee their work so if its too low or too high you can take them back. cheers Matt
  3. then what are they??? nice anyway. not too many chrome wheels i like. cheers Matt edit, i just had a look and they're definitly enkei shurikens, check if you want: http://www.yhi.co.nz/enkei
  4. i'd say that would be about the same in the back and sitting a little higher in front. you wouldn't want to go as low as mine in the front with 17's, would rub too much. hard to tell with different size wheels on though. mean looking EX, looks real good on those shurikens. are they rwd offset or are you using spacer's??? cheers Matt
  5. won't be under 100mm for that low, EX chassis sits pretty high, even when sacked out. might be something to do with rally heritage. i'll measure mine when the new shocks go in to confirm this, should be early next week. my springs are compressed 3" (76ish mm) and tyres are about the level you said. they won't be trapped with standard shocks at that level though so its not really the cheapest option. it rubs on the guard at the front under hard turns so you'll need to roll your guards and it handles pretty average too so unless you've got skills to make up some RCA's (Roll Centre Adjusters) or are happy to live with bump steer then it might be better to save your coin for a decent set of kings. a pic anyway (there's more in the project's section): and this ones floating around Auckland too with pretty much the same suspension mods as mine: cheers Matt
  6. wheels look good, how much you end up getting them for??? cheers Matt

    No Fire

i always used to just gap them wide because (don't know if this is all 4G32's but mine did) the points always used to slip closed anyway (couple of months running). it'll run like this so worth it just to check and you can gap the points later if you care enough. other things to check, gap on spark plugs (i've knocked them closed installing them before), leads in right order (your dizzy cap should have the numbers imprinted on it, if not ask on here and somebody can check), got fuel (might be some sort of airlock in the line from when you changed the fuel filter??) best way to find if the problem is spark is remove spark plug, put back in lead, hold a cm or so from the block, crank engine and you should see a spark. try for all 4 leads then get back to us if you haven't got it sorted by then. all i can think of right now, simple engines though, not much that can go wrong unless you've been messing with timing and shit. cheers Matt
  8. 1st gen mirage shocks are all good, you need to trim the tube at the top cause its too long (the crush tube that goes through the bush at the top of the shock), either with a grinder or hacksaw works fine. these are what i'm using with my 3" compressed springs and they trap it sweet as, caboonatlarge is using new kyb's for the same car, i'm not sure on what springs he's got now though but he might be able to sort you out with some kings for the rear, he had some for sale a while back. cheers Matt
  9. done a few things over the last couple of days, new brake pads are here and in, got all my new brake hoses but not in yet because i need my new struts first. got the inserts out and measured them up though, just got to get hold of a mate so i can order them. turns out my coil is going to be difficult, they can't find the one they thought they had in NZ, either have to bring one from Aussie (couple of weeks) or from Germany (couple of months minimum). shit. siliconed up the front bumper, looks heaps better, not quite mint though. got the new grill on too so front end looks fairly tidy for now. still not sure what i'm going to do about airflow for the intercooler and oil cooler but that can wait until after the cert. new brake pads and hoses: and strut measurements for EX1800 GSR strut inserts: cheers Matt

    celest parts ino ex?

rear end is leaf suspension in celestes so doubt you'd be able to use any of it, rear shocks maybe, and diff head again maybe. front struts probably would but i can't think of a reason why you would want to use them cheers Matt
  11. new plugs and leads today, finally realised why the car was missing every now and then, one of the old plugs must have been bumped when i put it in and the gap was almost closed up. runs heaps better now, well it idles heaps better anyway, can't take it for a spin with no front suspension. going hunting for new front brake pads and hoses tomorrow, along with someone to take my inserts out of my struts, i haven't got the tools to do it myself. ordered a new coil too, a proper starion one, they're meant to throw a 2 inch spark and be better (in this application) than a bosch gt40. costing about $50 though. cheers Matt
  12. not too much done today, got new tools though: mmmmmmmm, sidchrome. hasn't quite got the range i want, only go up to 17mm but it was a good price and it will do for now. looking for a good spanner set if anybody's got any recommendations??? i'm taking the front struts out tomorrow, need to replace the brake hoses all round along with getting some measurements for my front struts (apparently GSR struts are different to n/a EX lancers so can't just order them). trying to think of a way to not lose all my brake fluid but probably going to have to ditch it. surprisingly the stock struts have almost got my springs captive so i might just take an inch off the new ones instead of the 2-3 i was planning. will have to do some measuring once they arrive. cheers Matt
  13. rattleguns are the shit if you've got access to one, or a socket and big extension on the other end of the crank, sometimes the wrong bolt comes undone though cheers Matt
  14. they're growing on me cheers Matt
  15. that purple skyline has got to be the first car i've ever seen running cherry blossoms, actually look a lot better than i thought they would. cheers Matt
  16. i actually prefer the 4 doors when done right, you're not looking at the right pictures though: saw one in Cairns when i was there this year, little bit rusty, looked like somebody's family car. would be a nice car to bring over, could probably pick one up fairly cheap. cheers Matt
  17. taillights in, old ones: new ones: don't stand out as much as i thought, not sure if i like the silver stripes either, i'm going to get the centre black piece on then decide whether to metal polish the stripes off. didn't put the new grill on yet, tried it out but need to slot the holes to get it to fit properly and considering my poor aching head (mmmmm, tequila) i think i'll leave it til tomorrow. cheers Matt
  18. started to work on the beast again now i've got some money so figured i better get around to this, a fair bit of the info has been up on the board already but it was before we had a project section. its running a starion engine (4G63BT sohc 8 valve) with a stock non intercooled TC05 turbo at present. (next mod will be front mount and TC06, both of which are sitting in the garage. planning on setting up the TC06 with TD05 14G internals if i can find one cheap enough) the gearbox, 2 piece driveshaft, loom, computer, front struts with vented calipers and disc brake rear end (non lsd but i'll fit one as soon as i can find a decently priced centre) are all out of an EX1800 turbo GSR lancer. the engine, gearbox and rear end cost me $750, the front struts a bottle of bourbon and the other stuff (including black GSR interior) came in a rust damaged GSR shell i picked up for 2 boxes of waikato i'm using starion engine mounts although stock EX ones will work once you've removed the locating pin. i've got a set of recaro's out of a pajero (i think, they came with my celica project) a momo race steering wheel and a cheap gearknob to tidy up the interior a little, still looks old but heaps better than the brown stock stuff. its got a bit of an issue with the fuel system (it gets plenty of fuel, its just not cert worthy at the moment) and the bump steer is pretty bad but i should have both of those sorted in the next month or so and hopefully by then i'll have the money saved to get it legal again. the suspension is compressed springs (3" and i wouldn't go that low next time) with early mirage shocks in the rear and i'll shorten the front struts when i get the time. its a bit of a bumpy ride but my integra was lower than this so i'm used to it. pics: from this: to this: and a pic of the interior: just picked up my brand new EX1800 taillights today which is part of the reason i'm motivated, got a new grill too, not sure if i'll use it yet. its different but not 100% sure if i like it better: i've got brand new headlights and one of the corner lights too, malaysian copies but as long as they line up i'm not worried. look heaps better than the dirty old scratched ones. its got a GFB boost tap in it now, plus i've got KYB's ordered for all 4 corners. got to sort my turbo out and buy a blow off valve and i should be sweet to get my front mount put on too. all i can think of for now cheers Matt Discuss: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/18977-rxtoys-81-lancer/?hl=%2Brxtoy+%2Blancer
  19. looking real nice, can't believe the difference between the start and now photo's. the flares and rear spoiler make the biggest change but everything combines well to just make it look fucking hard. cheers Matt

    stall problem

not a lot of info there but first thing i'd check is fuel filter and have a quick look in the carb, see if you can see anything blocking up the jets. has he run the gas tank empty lately??? could have sucked up some shit from the bottom of the tank or something like that. cheers Matt
  21. are you talking about a centre or housing??? if you just want a centre (i'm assuming that you've got a non turbo diff housing) then there was one made, i've only ever heard of one though so they are about as rare as it gets. they were EX lancer diff's though so would bolt straight into your housing. the one i heard of sold on trademe quite a few months ago. for a housing and diff that bolts in you need an EX1800 setup, this comes with rear discs and a good chance of an LSD centre, although some of them do have open centre's. these are around but rare enough that you'll have to pay some decent coin for them ($300-700 seems to be the average price). you can also get the diff housing out of a live axle rwd sigma which may come with drums instead of discs and won't have an LSD centre. the diff is bigger and stronger though and bolts straight into your car. i'm not sure about the driveshaft, i used an Ex1800 gearbox and 2 piece driveshaft with mine. you'll need the handbrake cables as well if you find a disc rear. L200's won't bolt up, they're leaf suspension so not even close unless you want to swap mounts, i think they'd be too wide too. if you're going to modify a diff hilux would be a better option. hope that helps Matt
  22. mine was a bitch to do too, i think they just stick after being there for that long. most mag wheel places have a special tool for doing it, normally i hate paying people to do anything but its worth doing this properly, i damaged my steering column by pulling mine off, now there's a bit of play back and forth and i'll probably need to replace it when i go for my cert. cheers Matt

    3.5L Rover V8

yeah, quite a few stockcar guys run carbed 1UZ's but from a learning point of view that would entail matching a carb and manifold to the engine whereas with the rover all he has to do is take it apart and try to put it back together without too many spares i ususally have a couple cheers Matt
  25. he's giving you shit because there's always a lot of questions like yours up around school holiday time, usually a bunch of schoolkids dreaming and you never hear any more of it. there are people that come through though, and forums like this are a good source of information. sometimes its better to read through a bunch of old posts first though to give you a basic idea of what can and can't be done or you'll just end up getting flamed. most of us would have been the ones getting flamed at one time or another, thats why i usually hold back. basically no engine made by a different manufacturer is going to bolt straight into another car, they will all require at least modified mounts. this goes for quite a lot of engines and car's made by the same manufacturer as well. i'm not saying your a dreamer, and its pretty easily doable if you want to, but the trouble you'd need to go to wouldn't be worth it for a shitter unless you can weld and do all the work yourself, otherwise you'd be spending waaaaaayyyy too much coin on something that will never be that flash. feel free to prove me wrong though, i'm always keen to see something different. cheers Matt
