  1. I put Group 1 big valves in the turbo pinto i used to have. Hard to say you could notice a difference on a turbo engine tbh

Well it's not really loud.. but I can hear it.. and so it's annoying? Maybe I'll just get a louder exhaust

Doesn't use crush spacers. Solid spacer type. Diff still whining intermittently.. mostly as certain points on acceleration and disappears when coasting, but also there sometimes on deceleration. Doesn't sound nasty.. but it is a bit annoying. Probably pinion preload but we checked it again and it's correct torque on the nut. 75/90.. maybe a thicker oil? or re-shim up the gears? Does anyone reckon shot-peening the gear set might have caused the surface to change a little hence the intermittent whine?
  4. I put 12psi into a stock pinto.. not even a 205 for over a year with like 190,000kms on the clock and it never blew. Pretty solid units imo
  5. ^ I've never managed to blow one up
  6. Finally got my new LSD borgy unit in. Will get some snaps here's a vid of it in action:
  7. ^lols some people can't afford an LSD and don't wanna ruin their only diff by welding it. I didn't have an LSD the first time and took a year of getting hassled by dpns every Thursday night before I could afford one

Well yeah I was 99.99% sure that's what it was.. But my mate who rebuilt it said it didn't use one. Also had other oddities.. Such as not being able to find brake shoes to fit and axle bearings were a real odd size as well. So fuck knows lol
  9. Was awesome event / night LSD provided a better burnout from my than last year. until I blew my heater-core earn't myself a cold can of lion brown from some skinhead though who also showed me his 'awesome ford tattoo' lols Loved this F150!! Ended up falling out of a treehouse at 5am and twisted my ankle 1 hour sleep then the roosters start crowing.. drove home with something grinding under my car and the rubber still burning on my pipes trying not to run over cyclists who insisted on biking in the middle of the road. Good times!

    vacumme leak

....throttle return spring on the wrong angle and wasn't returning the butterflies properly.

LOL it wasn't a vacumme leak... All sorted!!

Nah rebuilt by my mate. We were under it this arvo with the Stethoscope and we couldn't pin point it at all. Even had to drop the driveshaft out to make sure it even was the diff. It's pretty random and intermittent. We think mayb since the gears were shot peened that they need some driving to bed in. Preload is sweet, this diff doesn't use crush tube. All bearings have been replaced except one wheel bearing which was fine. My I shouldn't have shot peened the gears.. I'll go hard on it this weekend and see if it gets better or worse. using 75w90 ..mayb trying a thicker oil might be a go
  13. ^ I think you mean the Scavangers.. Ky - yeah well it's their private party, they like V8's, ratrods and musclecars and hate boyracers and most of them aren't very interested in other cars and I don't really see why they should? Be different if it were a public even etc, but hey, they put on a party and want to be surrounded by the cars they love to see. Same as when rota-heads have rotary parties.. if it ain a rota it aint a motor and so on and so forth. anyway - vid of me crusing with Dan in a scavangers ratrod from the weekend: See you on saturday!

    ^bugger. Prolly pinion bearing then

    vacumme leak

^ done that. Nothing is obstructing the butterflies.. they appear to be closed to me, can't force them any more closed. It's a Holley TBi 900cfm quad throttlebody running a link V5. I don't use a electronic idle valve. Yeah it's got pushrods lol. Big badass ones.

    vacumme leak

it's not carbed it's fuel injected with a 900cfm Holley throttlebody I looked at it last night and they look closed to me. I guess I could get a tin or pot or something and close off air to the throttle plates and see if that makes a difference. If it still idles while they've been cut off I'll know for sure. They must let in a small amount of air as the fuels getting in somehow. looks pretty dammed airtight around the base etc. I'll try the brake clean and see, must be getting a lot of air from somewhere to idle like it does

true.. they do rumble.. hrm.. it's definately a whine.. doesn't sound nasty.. but it sorta whines when slowing down (kinda like a bus does) the splines were lapped in properly with blue paste and the wipe area was good. oil is Redline 75w90

    vacumme leak

So my V8 idles too high.. I adjusted the idle screw right out and it didn't make any difference. Looking down the throttlebody I can see the plates are fully closed and fuel dribbling onto them.. so where's the engine getting all that air from I wonder?? I've checked the intake manifold and they're tight. Last night I noticed the idle-air bypass hole in the throttlebody.. I put some tape over it thinking that might be it.. but it wasn't. Any ideas how to locate a vacumme leak?

Took the Capri out yesterday for a spin with the new LSD seems good, but I hear a bit of a whine now and then.. mainly when slowing down after breaking. At first I thought it was the diff, but it's not constant enough to be the diff and seems to be coming from the sides. I put new shoes on the drums.. so it could be them wearing in? or more likely wheel bearings. thoughts?
  20. leaf springs always look funny when jacked up. Just put the wheels on it and drive it around. It's horse&cart suspension so I wouldn't worry about it. The leaves in my capri when I take them out look weird, different amount of bend in them! I put them in and they're a bit wonky. Put the car down and no problem.

    pinto oil leak

actually it's the tappet covers themselves, all 2L escorts/capris/cortinas have the thin rim tappet covers which leak like a bitch with the cork gaskets. Get a Serria tappet cover, you'll notice the wide flat rim on it? It's the design fix which solves pinto oil leaks. It's the only way I ever got mine to stop leaking. Don't do it up too tight either!
  22. I've heard of people fixing probs with Redline in the gearbox, Shockproof light or Shockproof Ultralight

you can buy the LSD friction modifiers as an additive from redline

    Redline Diff Oils

^ prob true.. but I didn't think $60 was much to pay for 2 qaurts of redline. I've had the gear sets shot-peened and I'm not gonna cheap out for some decent oil. My falcon manuel says to run 80W90 LSD oil so the superlight weight shockproof would be good (75W90 but friction like ATF)? Or should I exchange it for lightweight shockproof which is (75W140 but friction like 80W) Actually.. after reading more on the redline website it seems this is better suited for transmissions. If my falcon diff is supposed to have a 80W90 GL-5 then I should be using this stuff: http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=37&pcid=4

    Redline Diff Oils

hmmm more vauge ideas.. seems odd that nobody can give me straightup answers regarding the Redline range.. even the people selling the stuff. Maybe I should take back the 2 I bought and swap it for normal 75/90
