  1. Yep, the pontiac is being sold to fund the escort. Ironically I sold my cool mk1 cortina wagon to sink the profits into the escort years ago, ended up getting a Datsun sunny for a daily and blew all the coin on the Datsun hahaha. Yes certainly have all the CA gear and fully intend to cram it in the scrote
  2. Jesus, I detest sanding bog these days. Got a good bit done tonight since it was a bit cooler in the shed. Glued in roof sound deadner and cleaned + primed the top side last nite as well as a few smears. That swage down the middle is quite awkward to replicate so I chopped a piece out of a guard in the scrap pile and glued some sand paper to it. Should speed up the process.
  3. Both rear sills in and out. Both front caps, drivers not as bad. C pillar vent, one side only thankfully! And after about 80 hours day after day, 54 patches were chopped, made, welded and ground. marathon, but had to do it now rather than try patch it up as I'm driving it. I've got in with a tight group of 1200 owners, and they have been feeding me cheap and free spares! Fuckin awesome! Always liked the factory sedan grille more so,was amped when this showed up, bit of a scrub, paint and polish and I'm happy enough to rock it until I get a better one. Need the appropriate surrounds however. Also bits like badges, interior stuffs, brackets that have been cut or modified. Yesterday was hot, was waiting for the few layers of bed-liner to set in the roof after heat-shrinking and hammering so I can sand it easier, and I couldn't be assed sanding bog so I cleaned up and refurbished the bumpers, tail light surrounds, number plates, headlight surrounds etc. Already did the indicators and lenses before Xmas, test fit a stereo, general tidying and painting of stuff, cut a piece of underlay for the roof, seam sealed and under sealed the rear guards and spare tyre well, made a cover for the fuel tank in the boot. Broke a few of the tail-light fixed bolts, found if I snapped them off completely and drilled them out, I could fit some spare speaker mounting machine screws in there, weld them and trill off the excess. worked out really well, then wire wheeled and doused in black zinc. Common practice on this car
  4. The rear arches had been hacked to fit drag slicks and it was high on my agenda to make them more original looking. As you can see it was shy about 30mm of arch. So I made these out of sections of some rooted front guards cause I just don't have the gear to shrink and stretch new steel. In saying that, it was everying BUT the arch that was rooted on the spare guards. Half of these pics are just quick 'end of the day' photos for a timeline, don't freak out if you see holes and things still, I got them. I worked my way from that front guard all the way round back to it. I took photos of the lot but it's depressing so I won't post them all. fair bit of time spent with the magnet and air gun extracting the rust scale, then doused it in rust kill, zinc and another sealant. Everywhere. Inside both rear doors were Chooched, nice repairs from the outside but had blown out on the inside.
  5. Everyone knows the car, most have been on white-knuckled joyrides in it, and it's a stalwart of the oldschool/nzdatsun culture. Bart Simpsons supercharged 'Death trap' 1200. If this car could talk, it wouldn't, What for the crippling PTSD. Its been Molotov cocktailed, in car chases, travelled at autobahn speeds, drag raced close to 13 second passes and all manner of in-between. When Bart approached me to tidy it up for impending sale, it just so happpend to be when I was looking to sell my wagon to blow all the proceeds on my Escort. Well I've never had a car younger than me, so make a habit of having 40-50 year old daily drivers, and I needed transport in between. Rather than buying something in a pinch and not really liking it, I saw this as the perfect opportunity to grab a model I've always liked, and have another A-series car, which is generally a joy. It was cheap, I had to keep telling myself this. Came with reg and warrant, and still certed for things like a roll cage and A14. Has a rev-counter dash and coupe centre console added. Driveline has been returned to standard, go fast bits went into a race car. Suits me fine as daily driven and less to go wrong. Came with a swag of spares , and that roll cage! I got a few weeks into December and couldn't do a lot until my holidays. I cleaned the fuck out of the outside and wheeled it into the shed. Can't find the after shot of engine bay but it came up well. Didn't do a lot until coming back from Xmas, so on Boxing Day I got into it. Came with straight spare guards which weren't flared but still a bit rusty. The drivers side rear or guard was good in white but bad in yellow so.. And the gap was massive so added on to the door.
  6. Even told me how many times he farted on the seat
  7. Looks great all nakey. In good hands with tony and Jase too
  8. More the fact that you just can't find standard tiny starlet rotors that size! KE is 218mm. Common starlet is 228mm. This car has 204 or something close to that. Stoked they worked in the end. Was it only the diameter you had to knock down?
  9. Google BMW brown colour, I think that would look boss. Go well with chrome too. Also steer well away from white interiors.
  10. I see this is coming up this weekend. Anyone been before? I can't seem to find any spectator info online, when/where/for how long etc.. http://www.ratec.org.nz/banks-peninsula-hillclimbs/banks-peninsula-hillclimb-weekend
  11. I know he was living in Dunedin and visiting fairly regularly About 6 years back
  12. Thrilling update, with pictures even! Gearbox output seal was rock solid and just started to leak so whipped another in and greased the UJs. All went pretty easily, stoked. Included the part number if anyone wants to re-do their W55/56/57/58 Toyota box.
  13. ...further to this, it's started spooling noticeably earlier and the Pitch of the turbo is a bit more piercing.
  14. Mate! That would be greatly received, I have a coupe of yank coasters for the bar too
  15. Yes ;-D Gotta go back and see the southern states next
  16. Yeah it was lame not going, but spent all the money in America, even some of the banks. Missing all tattoo shows this year too. Saving for a rebuild on the wife's A14 now It's ever ending!
  17. I got some stuff done. Shifter bushes showed up from NZAD so threw them in but discovered there is a copper bush in the shifter lever, and mine was internally worn into a rugby ball shape so bottom nylon bush was too small. So the next day at work I found some brass truck air fittings that were freebies and took one home that was a few mm off being right for the application... Just happened to have a a dremel stone that was fairly close to 20mm so honed out the inside of the brass fitting. Rummage around til you find something the right O.D Hand File and test Then chopped off the bulk of the fitting, showing the rooted copper one. Then knocked that bitch in with a socket on an extension. I put it all back together and it was sweet, but now that it's actually tight I came across an unforeseen issue. The shifter has a rounded washer that's spring loaded against a rounded bolt on top cover and that had flogged out and worn a lip on the top cover. So when I went for reverse the rounded washer got stuck against the cover and that was that. I filed it as best I could being that it's dosent come apart and was in place, and saw that one side had worn worse than the other so rotated top plate 180 and put it back together. Win! Also, the fit of the brass bush was so perfect that I can't actually pull the fucking shifter out! After a week or so of use it should free up. That was Thursday, in the mean time I had received my laser cut turbo outlet flange, was fucking perfect. Just used an old gasket for a template. I ran a drill through the bolt holes and it dropped straight onto my parts turbo. And it was lasery and smooth. Went to local Pitstop that I do lots of parts for at work and they hooked me up 300mm of straight 2.5in and a U section the same size. Here's the ugly cast Nissan dump pipe. Armed with a pizza box I traced the old setup and firewall clearance, then copied the U section pipe to card and cut templates, mocked it up and made some cuts. Tested, tacked, tweaked, Jimmied and came up with this.. I lobbed off all the 2*1/4 exhaust and now have 2.5 all the way through. Sorry about the ugly welds, I don't have a working helmet. I did tweak the welder and it's going better than ever though, so it's not gonna fall apart. I heated the flange up before welding and let it cool completely. It not as ugly as it was so I'm calling it a success
  18. Blitzed another warrant today, celebrated by getting new shifter bushes for socket and ball. Replaced those water hoses and whipped off oil cooler and re-sealed that, new oil filter. Leaked oil much much worse than before so re-did it but left it for ages before filling and cranking up. Sealed up, but now pushes oil out between sump and block, so got a gasket (was just RTV) not looking forward to that at all, cause it's been chopped to suit the x-member, it's really close and it's a big wide x-member so you can't get to a few bolts without painstakingly slow 1/8th turns with a Uni adapter. Last time I did have it off it was a huge job, and it got Hooked up on the pickup when it was close to coming out hahaha. There was such rage.
  19. Did mine with safe-r-brakes for similar money. But yes,CBC for all your shagged old cylinders and seal matching needs. Always quick
  20. Wow, 10 pages deep into the thread, sorry about the lack of, anything. Do wee bits and pieces but never really worth posting about. I fed it some new radius rod bushes after noticing it dive under brakes and it cured it wicked. Bit of a dick job with the intercooler pipes in the way of the nut. There were intermittent issues with the headlights so I replaced the cheap Indian ones with good hella ones and got the plug nice and snug in the back of the bulbs. But there was still something happening and a few fuses went up in smoke. Ended up finding an identical relay box in the system at work so chucked that in, replaced the terminals and tidied up the wires while there. Was a good sense of achievement. Can see how ugly it was in the picture above. Went to insert picture and it's gone for now.. Have a new leak coming from the tank but been watching it for 2 days and haven't pinpointed it yet... And need to replace a 90degree hose from oil cooler to block, easy. And figured nobody has ever done valve stem seals, not like you'd notice it being any more smokey... Was awkward, crawling round the engine, kneeling on things you shouldn't, laying on my stomach, slipping and punching the cam, flicking collets into the abyss. The usual. Started out using compressed air to hold valves, ended up moving to TDC and made a wee Spring compressor from some thick stainless plate I had spare. Glad it's done now. Also, this! Oooooh Yaaaaay 50 years old but brand new! I'm fairly broke but bored so looking for wee projects. Sent an old turbo outlet gasket to my brother so he can make me a steel flange and I'll make a new mandrel dump pipe. Any flanges I found were stainless so flag that. The factory down pipe is cast, ugly as all fuckery and made of 90 degree bends so must be balls for flow. Also the pipe from that is smaller than the rest of the system so will have 2.5in all the way. Also have had a Nissan fuel primer and filter unit sitting round so must be due for a new filter, will swap this in at the same time. I've only needed to bleed the system once but it was painful without a hand pump!
  21. Yes! One of the best shapes the pillarless
  22. Lol at selling and buying another the same. I put an A series in wife's 410 when the E1 got tired, lots of work involved and they mount entirely different. Plus the hydro clutch vs A cable is a bit of a hiccup. But yes we've flown through a few warrants now with no worries. They know it's not factory but it won't fall out on the road and it's hardly a powerhouse!
