  1. Just keep in mind that the booster gives a 2:1 multiplication of the brake pedal force. You may be able to change pivot points enough to improve it.
  2. they turn up on trademe occassionally. not sure on the fitment though. if it does foul you could use the early mk1 system without the booster.

    tyres rubbing

Read the info on this site - even better - save it for future reference!! http://www.rsracing.com/tech-wheel.html

Wheel offset is only half the equation there. You could have the same offset on different width wheels and still rub. Your problem sounds like you have too much backspace. Unless there has been some sort of suspension failure/damage the your wheels are not the correct ones to be fitting.
  5. Have a search through the recent tech threads. I posted a link in there a couple of days ago about escort electronic ignition systems.
  6. And make sure your ignition is in good nick - preferably electronic.
  7. check this out: http://www.mcs.vuw.ac.nz/~kris/escort/ignition should answer any questions about electronic ignition conversions.
  8. Bought a house here a couple of years ago. Stuff all money for toys now... Forgot D1NZ was even on!! Kicking myself now... Better ones are fielding panel (?) and whakarongo wreckers just out of palmy.

    electrics

The wiring is connected to them from the underside. I thought the same thing first time I saw them though!!
  11. To do the ford dizzy is pretty cheap. I picked up a complete system (dizzy, wiring and module) for about $60 from a local wrecker.
  12. It's still only half built and looks very ugly (white with a very recently removed tan vinyl roof...). The wagon has the same wheel base but the body is a couple of inches longer and about an inch higher. I cheated with the sump - swapped a mint mk1 round headlight grill for one from aussie. Got the pick-up, dipstick and sump. Bolts in very nicely with the pommie alloy mounts. I wanted the engine low to keep the centre of gravity as low as possible. Would still like the car to handle with the huge increase in weight up front. X-flow engine is approx 75kg, pinto is 130... Have fitted 15"x6" superlites, full nolathane, anti-dive kit, quickrack, capri struts, sport rear brakes and dash so far. Still finishing the trans tunnel after fitting the engine and box.
  13. Using rwd capri struts you can fit redrilled BMW E30 discs (260mm vented). Have done this myself with full support from my certifier. For calipers I'm running spaced princess 4 pots. The reason for using capri struts is they offer more space as the BMW disc has more offset (35.1mm compared to 27 for the escort/capri std disc). This will give you larger diameter vented discs for a pretty good price. The familia discs are a common mod in aussie but nz cert restrictions mean we can't do it. The centre hole is too large and requires a spacer to be fitted to keep it central on the hub which our guidelines frown on. You can always give the cert guy a try though. Worst he can say is no...!
  14. aparantly the 2L electronic bosch dizzy from the early (pre85) sierra is a bolt in. Will need regraphing to suit though.
  15. Cortina radiators fit in with only a little work on the hoses. They are taller but use the same mounting pattern and pipe positions. If doing this it's a good time to ditch the std fan and fit an electric one to the front... For driveshafts you can use the mk2 escort 2pc auto driveshaft with the 5 speed - fits perfectly in my mk2 2L 5spd wagon. As far as Stacov mentioned with the power loss when changing boxes - the 5 speed sierra box and the earlier 4 speed cortina boxes have exactly the same ratio's (apart from the obvious 5 gear...). To correct the speedo readings in an esky a 3.54:1 diff centre (1600 sport and ghia) should bring it to within about 6%. It'll turn the car into more of a cruiser though but with the extra torque of the 2L it's still quick!!
