considering they have the same floorpan/monocoque shell i dont see why not. how ever the early mk1s had a differnt rear shock angle (45degree i think) as the later ones but i think the axle should be the same. anyone correct me if im wrong.
-
i heard they had type48 shells which was 49 but with less streanthening, ie arount the stut tops. there was a discussion on trademe ages ago and i remember cos i was real interested if the shell was a 49. but yea, anyone else? sorry a tad off topic.

imo the new hilux diffs are the way to go. a solid lsd and something around the price range of $1400 shortened and purchased?? it will need to be shortened, and you can have the track a little smaller if you have larger width wheels at the back, as long as it doesnt hit the tub or the leafs. which is mad score.

do you have a dx? or is this for a ohc engine? sounds like you will have to get the cam set up again. so its at the right position at top dead center.
-
could be that your engine was running lean. if i think what you are explaining is what i am thinking about.

hehehehe

hehehe hmmmm .... *straight face*

matt black yo.
-
Generally speaking, yes. What engine, and i presume you are converting it rwd...that was a stupid question, who would do a fwd mk2?
-
ummm, are you sure? i think someone has been telling you porkie-pies. why spend all that money and then have a locker to hinder the turning ablility of the car. i think you mean they have LSDs.
-
it sounds like you have to much power. i recomend a downgrade to a dihatsu move, honda jazz or similar. ok, so you think yo gots a locker. when you go round a corner does it understeer like a bitch and then as soon as you lose traction at the back snap oversteer? ok, jack up your escort at the back, and spin one wheel. if the other spins in the oposide direction then you have a standard open diff. if they go the same way then you have an lsd or a locker. the idea of your escort having an lsd is not very likely. what kind of esky is it? 1600, 2lt pinto? driving with a locker on a windy bit of road is like pushing shit to the outside of a corner. usually when going round the corner the outside wheel travels faster as it has a lenghtier distance to travel. with a locker they both wanna go the same speed, therefore going straight till they loosed grip and you just hang it out to dry and drift it large. hehe on a side note, me and a mate matt blacked his hiux, then we wanted to dump the suker. anyway we didnt get that far but we knew the lsd was worn. didnt take much of him holding and me spinning to brake it. lsds wear out people! esp after 300,000k lol.

its on the over run. its still in gear and the momentum of the car keeps everything thurning over, therefore the mixture is getting round. then you flick the swtich again, get back up to speed and hit it again. thats if its moving, wait have i fucked something up. maybe it doesnt cut them all. hmmm, i think you could be right lol.
-
the kits cut the spark to all the plugs so the engine just pumps unburnt fuel/air mixture threw the overrun and the rear one lights and fire.

mate told me about a 12at mini, had a 100mm stip sectioned into the middle. and all this other crazy stuff. used a corona box. if i was you id just save up my pennies and stick a 1275 in it. they go quick enough if you tune them a bit.

just had a look in me lil haynes manual, seirra 82-88, abd here follows: N1 1st: 3.65:1 2nd: 1.97:1 3rd: 1.37:1 4th: 1.00:1 5th: 0.82:1 reverse: 3.66:1
-
Off the top of my head so dont steal my car if it's wrong, but 5th is 0.89:1 and the other 4 are the same as escort type 2 boxes.
-
yea, you can buy them. im sure, just ring up the lolo people and theyll hook you up.....but mk5 cortina??? or you could be a man and make your own. im gonna do that one day.
-
youd be pretty slutted if it heated up so much the lock nut got welded onto the stud. i suppose if you were carefull enuf and only did little zips at a time it wouldnt matter....be funny tho
-
yea, im going with clutch slip. my mate had it in his oldskool 320, would be ok most the time but he booted it down this straight one day and it governed and went now where lol. yea, he could change gear without using the clutch too, but it used to crunch like a bitch. the clutch and the gearbox were both buggered in that car, but you can have a fine gearbox and slipping clutch.

when you're in a mini, it seems quiker than it is. quick to 50, i dunno how fast to 100 in mine cos my speedo needle fell off but oh well. nippy cars, small, surprisingly roomy inside, cheap to fill up.
-
Minicranks in Wellington had some for sale with good tread 165/60s on them. $200. Cheap if you ask me. My mates mini thats getting slowly put together is getting widened steels, or hotties. and flares. However if you lower it anymore than an inch you will need to chop up the gards abit. i get rub when hard conering atm, and mine is mysteriously lowered at the front. Mini prices are on the rise, as are all other old schoolers.
