    My Gem Is Sick...

Ok I had a more indepth look. Found that the timing was out by about 8 degrees so we fixed that, but it hasn't really solved the problem. It also seems that the secondary throat of the weber might not be getting any petrol. When I pull the throttle when the car is off, should it also squirt out the secondary jet? Carby was also loose as a hooker, so we tightened that back up to the manifold. But yeah, I think the carb might be rooted, like no power after 4 grand. I'm gonna swap the coil for a 'performance' one I got off of my parts car too, I'll see how that goes.

    Modding wheel offset

    Cheers guys, great help.
  3. Hey guys, My rims sit out just a tad too far, is there any way that I can mod them (ie shave off a bit of the back) to fit better in my guards? Cheers Leon

    My Gem Is Sick...

Cheers guys. I know you hate ramflows RT, was waiting for that I'll give the vacuum hose a go when I get it back from the alarm place this afternoon. Alfalfa: spot on description
  6. Hey Guys, I have a little problem with my TD coupe. It has the following mods if it helps diagnose the problem: 4-1 Extractors + 2"exhaust, 32/36 Weber and a Ramflow. Anyway, yesterday I drive my car to work and it was running fine; revs would go up well and it would pick up, no backfiring, you know, pretty much like a normal well tuned Gemini. After work (and the car witting in the hot hot sun and humidity for 4 hours), I started her up and noticed something was wrong. As I went to reverse out of my parking space I pulled out the clutch and reved the accellerator and the carby sucked and died. There was no power. So I revved in neutral and all was good. It seems that when under load, ie: foot to the floor, it looses power. When I plant my foot, the revs drop off almost to nothing then build up again and it feels like you are dragging something heavy or something. She has started backfiring a bit now, and the other interesting thing is the rev count. While watching the tacho, when I revved to about 4grand (to see if it was ok) it would jump around, the sound of the engine didn't match what it was doing, jumping between 4-5k. I thought it could be a few things 1) Fuel filter / pump. Might be clogged up (and it looked a bit haggard), not sure how to test the pump. 2) Timing might have decided to go waaaay waaay out, or my vacuum advance might be busted or something. 3)The coil or dizzy might have shat itself but I'm not sure how to test these either. Also, is it possible it might be something to do with the clutch, I can tell its getting old, but didn't think that should affect the engine performance. Plugs and leads maybe? Does anyone have any ideas? Cheers Leon

    Paint Preperation

Yeah, it's not that great, the picture is deceiving, but I reckon it would have done. Anywho, it's in half primer now...
  8. Have you tried Wootons? Repco also sell them.

    4age question

I didn't think that they came out carb'd but I do know that Redline make a twin carb manifold for them, so you're in luck.

    Engine Running On

My car does it on 91 and 96 octane, and just started doing it a little on 98. Jerm and I attempted to tune it today so i'll see how it goes.
  11. I'm truely hoping that's going to happen to me once I've got my engine in place. Fuck I'm keen to see their faces.
  12. Logan and I did replace the front springs and shocks the other day, which could have fucked with it a bit. I haven't had my alignment done for ages so I'll have that done soon. Yeah, it just feels as if there isn't enough weight at the front when cornering fast (if anyone has ever driven up the road from the Chelsea Sugar factory, that big corner allmost killed me the other night). I have new shocks and springs all round, just gonna do the bushes sway bars and panhard rod to finish and hope it's all good.
  13. Whiteline make both HD and HD adjustable swaybars for my car which I can get. The questions is whether this will help fix my problem. Maybe i'm just too light at the front.
  14. Ok, my car seems to be understeering a bit when I take corners hard. It still has the stock sway bars in it. If I upgrade these to heavy duty ones, will it cure my understeer problem? I will be doing some nolathane bushes in there too.
  15. Hahaha its not that high!!! About 1" above the arches all around. Has cured my offset/rubbing problem tho and goes nice
  16. You will be sad to know, lowlancer, that my car is not low either anymore. I have sacrificed ride height for comfort/goodness

    Blow thru turbo setups

That's the same with me. I was going to go EFI, but I couldn't really afford the computers etc.

    Blow thru turbo setups

RT, i'm running a blow through setup so I wont have and fuel running through the turbo. I think the best idea to set up the carb is to take it somewhere like Weber Specialties on the shore and get Murry to fix it all up. He's a good dude and i've talked to him about this before. Yes you have to buy a fuel pressure regulator otherwise you'll run out of fuel, and just buy a decent fuel pump. You might even be able to get away with something from another car, say a commodore or something bigger.

    Blow thru turbo setups

Well, I'm doing a blow through setup at the moment, so I'll let you know how it goes. I'm buying a complete custom made kit for my engine, truely bolt on (with the exception of tuning) so i'm pretty confident. They guy who makes them has done blow through setups on many geminis before so he knows what he is doing. Plus there is a lot of support at the Gemini forums I visit so I reckon I can get this all done properly. I'll keep you guys updated tho. Hopefully I dont have to do back and buy one of his EFI kits too...

    Blow thru turbo setups

This link shows it very basically, but should give you the idea http://www.giant.net.au/users/wight/turbo_setups.htm

    Blow thru turbo setups

Ok. There are suck through and blow through. I'm only gonna write about blow through coz that's what you wanna know about and I can't be bother talking about the other. Anyway, to answer your main question; No, the piping from the turbo (through an intercooler if you like) does not go into the intake manifold after the carby. You will need to either make an air tight box which sits on top of your carby (and make sure the carb is air tight itself) or enclose the whole carb in an airtight box. This box acts like a plenum in an EFI turbo setup. The filter just goes infront of the turbo where it usually does. You run an IC just like in a EFI setup and the same with a BOV, this can connect to intake piping or onto the air tight box, where ever. So basically, blowthrough carb turbo setup is like an EFI setup with the airbox and the carb acting like the plenum/injectors/etc. Note that the carb will need to be modded to handle the boost and you'll need new things like bigger fuel pumps and rising fuel regulators. You'll also need some sort of turbo manifold. I guess you could mod your stock exhaust manifold but that's pretty ghetto. There is more to it, but i'lll leave the rest to other people in the know.

    Polishing wheels

Have you tried using steelwool and autosol. I used that on my my rocker cover and it works pretty well.
  24. Yeah good idea TR. Take a look at the stickies in the workshop section to see what's invloved with writing a workshop article!
