  1. It's negative earth - checked yesterday when Cam and I installed the electronic ignition. vivaspeed: yes please, I'd love to see those tuning pages!! I've been advised a 28/36 by Tony Lynch, but have you tried finding one recently?!
  2. Quick update on this. Wasn't running for a few weeks. Put electronic ignition in on the weekend, starts much nicer now on these cold mornings. Also, I got some speakers from Pick a Part which I need to find a place to mount.
  3. Looking good http://www.metservice.com/rural/taupo
  4. Alright you're all in, this will be mean. I think Rookie is keen too so should have a good team.
  5. Yup, I'm there and already annoying bottomworth with my plans that don't include a full restoration to stock.
  6. Ah, either I don't actually read posts or am not funny enough. On another note, I had a look at the bumpstops in the front and I'm going to pretty much on them at the height I want to be. Better get some smaller ones.
  7. I'm pretty sure I've seen 1256s on twin SUs before?
  8. People use a single 40DCOE on them... I know not a lot about carb sizes. Will check the stalk contacts.
  9. Update from the weekend: 1. Stalled at a traffic light and wouldn't start again - I think there is a shit load of gunk in the fuel tank and the line got blocked. Eventually got it started. 2. Right hand indicator stalk movement now does nothing. Push it down and nothing happens at all. No idea how it happened but will have to look into it. Anyone know if 1600 Hillman Strombergs would be decently sized for a "HOT" 1256?
  10. Cheers guys! time to hit up willtheyfit.com and see my options.
  11. Question, The current tyres only say 155R12 on the side, will there be something else indicating the profile or am I going to have to measure it?
  12. Hells yeah man! Is that rear-side window unchopped? Looks like you tinted it.
  13. Good idea. Maybe I can get some oldschool cloth from an old radio or something, would look pretty cool!
  14. Nah, not enough room aye, not at all. Might try and hide the speakers facing downwards under the dash.
  15. So I figure this needs a stereo, but something not too obvious. There is heaps of room under the dash where the storage compartment is but I don't really want to put a head unit in. So I'm gonna get one of these: and mount it behind a plate under the dash (which is painted cream like the dash). Then I'll find some retro knobs to replace the ones that are on there and it should come up all good. Now to find a discrete speaker mounting place.
  16. Hrm, I'll bet a 36 DRLA would be good on the 1256.
  17. Abarth, I can literally add 50% more horsepower by doing minor mods to a 1256. Also, a single 40 might be good, they are Dellortos?
  18. Yeah, I have seen that. Surely I could just make a manifold similar to what they use for DCOE webers? I need to re-read that post Gordo made about tweaking the 1256 too, he mentioned something about the balance ports, etc. I'll have a yarn to Tony on the weekend and see what he recommends. Cool, top gauge it is!
  19. Looks like 1.3 Polo guys are using CBR 600 carbs as their first choice. Keeping this here for reference: http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/index.p ... pic=205846
  20. Yeah man, I was surprised! They have a siamesed inlet port so 2 ports feeding two cylinders each. This leads me to believe that 2 bike carbs might do, although looking at other 1.2 and 1.3 conversions (most VAG stuff), they are using 4 (one for each port). I wonder if I'll be able to get enough fuel with two.
  21. Brad: you're getting it now. It is kinda for the lol factor. If I can do most of that stuff cheap then I will be happy. If it's looking to be more expensive that it's worth (shouldn't take long), I'll just not bother. It will be a good exercise in building my first engine, albeit a shite one. I'm not sure about the combustion chamber size but I know that you can shave the head down and get to 9.5:1 without too much trouble. And yeah, I realise the hypocrisy with the cert and brakes/suspension. But I think they'd pick up ISUZU on the rocker cover before they realised it didn't come with disc brakes.... maybe. Who knows, will see how it goes.
  22. Keep forgetting about that, will have to look into it asap. I need to add a caveat to the thread that says I do not want to have to change engine mounts, make custom x-members, or cert this thing. I KNOW the 1256 is a shit engine, but it is better than the 1057 (which is the same engine with less capacity). I'm not overly fussed about whether or not it's gutless, it actually goes alright now. I just want to freshen up the engine and may as well increase the capacity while I can. I already have a fast enough car in the garage.
  23. I should probably get a water temp gauge. The standard gauges look like this: Options in my price range: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NVU-6 ... /?rtype=10 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NVU-3 ... /?rtype=10 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/VDO-180310/?rtype=10 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ATM-1737/?rtype=10 What you reckon? I'm leaning towards the first one.
