Where  do you gezzers that run  aftermarket trigger wheels, get your vr sensors from ?    something barrel style would be best

melted the vr sensors in the stock 4age cas the other weekend.  Plus the stock cas's kinda suck,  old leaky and in a dumb location.
So,  done  some rangi mods and made a 36-1 prototype using a stock vr sensor and a rx7 abs sensor.  running on the exhaust cam gear.

works way better than the factory stuff. just need to make it pretty and reliable

I've got a shed full of shite. Nothing gets worked on. Every project is stalled! I guess being away a lot, and kids first when I am home means the shed is last cab off the rank. Still. After talking to Alex and Hannah at the pub, I am thinking, would less projects give me more focus? Dunno. Maybe change my username to Gunna.

I'm not a flatpeaker sort of bloke and don't do facestalk. Obviously, being away a bit makes things hard to plan ahead too, but we can probably sort something for sept-oct when stuff settles down with work. I may even introduce myself on the board if Scott shows me how.

Thats about the best intro we could expect outta you I reckon.

Hahaha sounds about right. Oh shit that's right, the battery was inside the truck wasn't it?

I met him through a friend, but we do have marine engineering in common.

Definitely a great guy with plenty of knowledge.

@moparmuppet would you be interested in doing a meet in your shed one day? It will only be members that are here, not posted on fb.

Good idea. He will be bang up for it.

  6. at 600 KG and you would go lighter.... the only word that comes to mind is composite.

    seriously a light weight camper...

Building your own camper is fun , look at how happy felixx is :)

I like the truck above because of the duals , great for stability .

I have sometimes thought that would be a sensible addition to mine , and a front diff ........................ :)

But really ,, I find my off roading is just down some shingle track or grassy paddock so the chunky tread tyres and plenty of ground clearance work just fine .

If you do build , put at the front of the build consideration ..... light , lighter , less is more.

My camper is 610kgs and I would do the next one lighter.

  7. My wife uses Ali express for phone covers etc, and when she opens it items I have looked at come up.

Clicking on things like this ^ must make her wonder what she's getting for xmas...  :-D

Yes...indeed. a big glass phallus or a clear glass marijuana implement. Oh the things you can get from china these days.

If you stray from glass tube look out.

    The mind boggles.

Weirdly enough when Scott (scooters) first raised this idea a Landcruiser troop carrier was my gut instinct. This is a pop top version of the same. With the reserve pretty much the same as a semi-decent tow vehicle...

I know when I lived in ozzy the troopies were let out to tourists on fraser island.... they just about all got flipped many bad accidents. I have this gut feeling that they are not ment to be stacked with bulk stuff up on the racks. Great wag's though.

  9. Most 4x4 offroad campers that takes boats have a hitch mount setup that sits a tinny ontop of the camper.

As for the suspension. Well when offroading the trailer tends to bounce around more so than the tow vehicle on rutted tracks. So a full on suspension is necessary if you don't want your camper shaking to pieces.

Build an old school bus/motorhome and tow a small zook behind it. Or chuck a few scooters inside the bus for getting around.

Yea it's dependant. I'm happy to unhook the camper and go 4x4ing. if there is somewhere cool to drag the camper back to then go and grab it if it's worth it.. most NZ trails are so short.

  10. http://www.remotemoto.com/ Is a NZ bike focused site, but will give you a pretty good indication of where you might be able to take your camper.

The latest project Binky episode has Lycra with resin laid over top as a way of extending flares on a mini, the concept could be a cool way of creating a watertight repairable skin for the 'roof'.

Cool as struggle for hours for trail info

  11. The disability not to tow a boat is a real pain. It would be cool if you could just B train your nissan patrol with a camper and a boat haha.  :-)

Most of our 4x4 trails are short with longest likely the molesworth... most but You kind of poke your nose down the trail 15 K and your there mostly dirt road.. but the ability to camp at the end of it and not wreck the place is important.

Can't find bugger all trails from a google search so I assume a lot is private land only open to the clubs.

But to be self reliant sleep 4 people and have some form of insulation I think is important.

There was one of these ecombo campers (NZ Made) next to as at a camp last year.

Seemed pretty sweet as long as you don't mind doing everything except sleeping outside (without the tent extension anyway).

    Pricey but.

    DSC06189.jpg

    /buy a tent/

Sorry this looks terible. I'm sure it's fine but my gosh... it's not my thing.

  12. for joining/sealing corners, is there an ali extrusion available that is similar profile to those manky plastic Hardies jointers ??

I'm not sure I am starting to think that angle alloy is being put along the outside corners and the inside gets a nice flash little bit of trim so you don't see the corner.

  13. I don't see the point.

The entire towed member is only as capable as the vehicle towing it. So in order to get the benefit of having such extreme suspension travel/ground clearance/tyres/articulation etc, the tow vehicle would need to be even more capable. And even then, it's off road performance will be severely compromised by having to tow such a larger trailer behind it.

The best idea would be to make one of these:

Have a 'daily vehicle' that is capable off road and the camper sits on stilts in storage until you want to take it away.

Then just reverse under it, lower it into the bed and you're away.

I suspect that will be top heavy. ??

To be fair iv never taken to many offroad trails in NZ. Done plenty in ozzy. But I suspect most of our tracks will be gravel roads. With the odd water splash.

Most tracks not much longer than a 100K max?
