How bad is the current paint? Are you planning to bare metal the whole car?
Its actually not bad a few bubbles but its not scary.. I just thought after watching a few youtube clips of how they prep aircraft. It looked so easy it might save me hours of rubbing.
Last car I painted was 8 years ago so ideas probs have changed a bit since my last date with a sanding block.
-
Am hatching plans to do a repaint.
Has anyone used a "aircraft" type paint stripper and a steam cleaner to get the paint off before starting first prep??
it's looking like the sort of thing I can do in the shed.
Is this a better way to go than sandblasting or soda?
taking all chemical paint removal tricks on board.
cheers

I'm thinking of doing a fuel only EFI system for the KP.
I'd buy this EFI system and ditch the ECU, MAF, loom and TPS and get a potentiometer type TPS, wideband O2 sensor, MAP and a Speeduino and make a new loom for it.
I'd have to sort something out for an inline high pressure fuel pump near the tank. There are already mounts along the chassis for a return line, if I could track down a normal feed line for a KP I could just stick that in and use it as a return.
I'd use the pulses from the ignition system (electronic distributor) to tell the ECU how fast the engine is running.
I would also probably ditch the idle bleed air valve and replace it with something electrically actuated.
I think I would need to make up some braces to support the EFI plenum as they look like they are missing.
~$400 for system from trademe
~$250 for speeduino
~$300 for wideband with controller
~$?? for fuel pump, hoses and filter - second hand or brand new pump?
~$?? for wiring, plugs, fuses and covers - I have decent soldering station and some electrical tools, I have a few rolls of wiring which should be suitable
~$?? for TPS and idle control valve - second hand or brand new units? Would a generic waterproof potentiometer be suitable for a TPS?
~$?? for intake piping and filter - maybe something off of an AE101?
I'd aim to make something that is as bolt on as possible, from what I can gather I would get away with only having to drill a hole on the exhaust and put a bung on for the O2 sensor. I reckon I would get away with just putting a T on the fuel tank where the pump would go, allowing for the return fuel to get back into the tank. I'm not sure what I would do regarding baffling in the tank or if this would even be a huge issue with this car. I don't really want to do anything like putting a surge tank in as this would probably require drilling holes in the car.
There are already mounting holes for a fuel pump assembly on the chassis of the car in front of the fuel tank.
Would this be worthwhile or pushing shit up hill?

I'd also like to do something such that it looks like factory and won't give me any issues come WoF time, I don't feel like forking out half a grand for a cert.
Don't go with the trade me option the flap mas air flow doors are arse. Unless you are happy for your car to run on dramas from the 1980's

mayte no need for a welder I've got some jumper leads here
There is nothing on Earth like the rage thats starts within me when the welder makes the sub audible hum when the shitty wet old sticks get stuck trying to get the arc started on the thing iv tried to weld for the 17th time running.

Fuck thats horrid. Notice the china manifold thats had a whole packet of filler rods thrown at it
Here is a
slightlyless horrible one http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/honda/auction-1379740387.htmIn my eyes the only manifold that should exist for turbo 4 bangers is the rams horn header.
EDIT.... stainless or steam pipe.

Not exactly nice - but strip the plasti-dip off the wheels and you'll be period correct as...
edit: Just had to check if it had a monster-tacho, you betcha!
There is is Hi octane 2 spec. dead give away with the mesh in the rear bar.
I wont even talk about paint and wheels. It's making the meth worms itch in my arms a little.

I saw there was a crx at Zebra so I popped out today and got a rear bumper and a dash. I got the bumper installed and it looks heaps better. Dash will wait until later.
There is a crashed crx down the road , I've left my number on it so hopefully they contact me and I can grab it for all the interior stuff I need
for a laugh I thought id have a look on trade me and see if I could find any semi un punished CRX's... turns out they all got punished so bad there are none.
I'm real shocked when did the horse bolt with them ?

Your wheel junkies must know the brand/type of this rim.
a std late model dub is 4x130 stud
but this looks more 4x100
I'm not sure but id love to know.

As the exhaust gasses expand in the megaphone it creates a vacuum behind the exhaust pulse which improves scavenging, creating more power.
Or something.
Maybe it just makes it real loud to create a false perception of more power.
They make ears bleed. Its along the lines of a exspansion chamber but not. 4 stroke injected dirt bikes have a power bomb or some shit a little bulge in the exhaust.

vw "muffler" megaphone thingy. no idea how it works. Also... not a real muffler

@yoeddynz Hey Alex here is how a megasquirt looks after dead time. cut/paste example. "Megasquirt uses 0.2ms per volt as its standard constant. So for each volt the opening time is reduced by 0.2ms... (and seeing as we love examples!) An injector dead time of 1.1ms @13.2V and a voltage correction value of 0.2ms/V would change to 1.3ms @12.2V and 0.9ms @ 14.2 volts...." crude but effective.

I get on here from time to time. I'm not usually allowed out on school nights though
I think you should just pull it all down and roll with that flakey orange/yellow foam stuff that falls down everywhere at the slightest touch.
I honestly can not think of a better answer.
