  1. NEW ADDITION 1974 Suzuki TC100 - described as not going for many years. It has been a farm bike all it's life and came with original black plate and ownership papers and had a cool 12k on the clock. Talking to the owner and he said the engine wore out so he put another piston in it and rode until it refused to start but was a bit smokey' I pulled the side cover off and removed the carb as thought i better check it and found it full of oil?, replace the fuel line as it was hard and brittle and added a filter to stop the rust and stuff in the tank blocking the carb. Kicked it over and oil kept going into the carb lean the bike over a little and oil ran out. checked oil level and was about right, plugs were wet and oil soaked. puled the exhaust off and about 100ml of oil in the exhaust. Even the Air filter crumbled as well so it needed some TLC. lifted the head and barrel and the rings are very worn and the piston wall was thick with oil. I have pulled down a lot of 2 strokes and I have never had this issue and honestly I have no idea how the heck it was even running before this. I am hoping that's all it is as someone had the carb adjusted to about 1/4 throttle and the clutch was adjusted and wasn't disengaging. Brakes work good. Bent handlebars, broken speedo, seized front forks and the auto-oiler isn't connected Ordered the engine bits I need and parked till they arrive, I will order a new seat cover and any other stuff once I have it running and then give it a clean and leave it like it is as I love the look of this 48 year old workhorse
  2. A couple of vids from it It was my first and was great to get out and about with others on small bikes
  3. Anyone going ? I will be there taking pics and video.
  4. I know I said Suzukis but I have a little off-set in the way of a green C50 which I am doing a minor makeover. Nothing too major, just that the Patina was turning to rust in some places so I decided to rescue it before it got too much
  5. This is the project king in my eyes as they are just amazing badass and he has has done plenty including the V10 street motorcycle, as pictured on his Tshirt. They way he co-joins engines is easy for him but only a dream for people like me.
  6. I have collected 8 bikes over the past year. 1980 A50 - couple of boxes full of parts, assembled it but has no spark - Rego dead - The only one not running 1971 F50 - original paint and parts - runs nice - Needs a good clean and some touch ups - Rego'd 1980 A100 - Runs nice, bit of patina, tank has corrosion on top from leaking filler cap - Rego'd B120 - complete bike - hot wired runs nice - Patina but looks like it will tidy nice - dead rego 1976 TC125 - Dual range - Black plate - currently tidying and almost ready for rego check. dead rego 1976 TC125 - Been converted to look like a TM - aftermarket Expansion chamber with silencer, rebuilt very tidy - TS125 motor - Parts + spare Early TC engine - offroader 1999 RGV150 - Runs nice - looks tidy but I repaired fairing in several places - after I fix others I will replace piston and rings and tidy further - Rego'd 1976 Honda C50 Cub - I have been striping it to paint - runs ok - Rego'd
  7. I bought it as I wanted one of these 1970's 2-strokes for a while. It was owned locally and ridden to a few events and when I got it wasn't running the best. I still have a few minor things to sort but it runs sweet now. The 1st issues was it had way too much oil in it, drained and topped back up with 650mls instead of the near 1200mls. I put a new plug and then took the carb cover off and tuned it. I drained the tank and found it had a fair amount of grit in it and changed the fuel valve . I also noticed the chain was a bit tight so decided to adjust and found the back wheel was too tight so loosened it adjusted and tightened and the now the wheel spins easier. Test ride and pulls well and isn't smoking as bad as it was and about ok but I might adjust the oiler as a little extra is better than not enough. I found that it is very high geared and today I will tape my phone to it to see what gps speed I was doing, it felt like maybe 85-90km/h on a slight uphill but the speedo goes a bit weird and may need a new cable. I need to get the REGO adjusted to the correct model as someone has it down as a GT but both Chassis and motor say it's an A100, I believe this happens quite a bit in our system.
  8. Goodbye little GN - I sold it tonight I sort of grew my bike collection by 3 in 3 days so the GN needed to go, I now have 2 more Mopeds and small capacity 70's motorcycle.
  9. Maybe it was turbo smoking as GN's cant really smoke a tire
  10. In the best Shultz voice... "I see Nothingg!" Big hp GN250.... LOL YEA NA.
  11. Thanks for that, I have only done probably 30kms on it so far but I am treating it a bit like my old Honda back in the 80's to try and loosen it a bit, probably take a few 1000ks tho. Maybe a few trips to Westport fishing will do it but that can wait until after winter. I am lucky as their is a room and bed to stay whenever I like. Question though, as I feel my carb isn't quite right yet, how long did you need the choke from cold, also when warm did yours run past the redline much in 4th?
  12. So I took it out for about an hour or so to try and loosen up the engine as it was struggling to pull past 100 and barely got to 105 last time where it also created a fuel/carb issue and I thought I was going to have to call out for help but after running it on choke for a couple of ks it came ok, guess it was a small blockage. This time I had no issues and gave it a few blasts down the highway and around town. I then brought it home and made a small modification then took it down the highway and it pulled nicely to just over 100km/h in 4th then 5th tapped out at 120km/h, it may have been a fluke but from what I can gather the norm seems about 110 but I doubt I will try again as I would feel like a mug getting a speeding ticket on a GN250 as most people wouldn't believe me anyway.
  13. All legal now so all I want now is for this damn rain to stop enough for some dry roads!
  14. Start with some basics, needle/seat ok? vacuum leak? check brake booster hose, timing, take air cleaner off try, any fuel leaks?
  15. Go to VINZ and they will check for about 150 or 160 from memory
  16. This is the model, possibly 1982 as the workshop manual was printed December 1981.
  17. I have wound myself back to when I was 15 years old when I bought a brand new 1974 A50 for my first vehicle. I decided as I have some spare time and like tinkering on bits, to buy a 2 stroke, I have been looking for a while for just an engine and this came up so decided to take a chance, It came in a couple a boxes and I have been putting it together to see if it all works before I decide to either restore or just leave the patina look. I sort of like the patina look but I also like the old restored to factory bikes. but I guess 1st thing first and get it running. Things I need are gear lever, headlight mount, either new ignition or a key cut if they do that these days but figured a couple of switches will do until then? I figure I will make a headlight mount and use the indicators i got when I picked up a couple of mopeds.
  18. Sweet thanks, that's what I thought at first but figured i am not great with this stuff and i was wanting it to be that easy
  19. It's an A50 about 1980, I bought a box of parts basically
  20. from the ignition when the key is turned 1 click where is Green G going to? Yellow Y goes to the Magneto but when lights are on Green is replaced by Grey Gr which powers the lights.
  21. I actually pulled it apart and checked it when i got the bike, i never turned it off and sat for 5 or 6 weeks. I have never had to turn off fuel before on my old bikes but then I was riding them all the time. It's a 2004 model first rego'd in 2005
  22. Had a near disaster as I am about to re rego it! I Booked a brake test for yesterday afternoon, went out and tried to start it, finally checked the fuel and empty. I put a few litres in it and thought, shitty carb must have leaked it out and I will need to fix that when I come back. It finally fired but was running a bit rough and not idling very well, I removed the carb checked it and seemed ok so blew it out with the air and put it back. I took it for a run and it wasn't happy at all and when I got back it was leaking oil around the area of the front sprocket. Took the cover off, cleaned it up but couldn't find anything wrong. I thought I better check the air filter in case it was that. Once I removed the filter I found it was in a bath of oil and petrol mix and realised where all the fuel had gone, checked the oil window and side of the engine and it was well full so drained the oil and about 3.5 litres came out of fuel and oil mix. I drained the filter box and put fresh oil and it ran fine to the shop. I was talking to them and they just said, typical GN indestructible but also said this can happen as the needle will need replacing. I am amazed as instead of hydraulic damage it just pumped enough into the air box via the breather to run. What is the use of the overflow in the bowl if it doesn't work!
