  1. Thought i should update the thread as i was here, yes the rover is still alive. went drag racing last December and was very surprised with the go of it. however i feel the 300,000K 3.9L maybe not so happy given he noticeably tap noise from the lifters. however rn i'm replacing the start solinoid because the one in the motor is hashed and i've found that the motor on the engine doesn't exist.. and the p6 one has one too little teeth... nope i have no idea what the flywheel is made from. so if i'm rebuilding the motor i feel i should you know... make it faster, i feel 11:1 pistons and a roller cam may help it go more. good news though the T5 box is still alive
  2. sorry no photos, Right so not been around for a while. but not been doing nothing. been thinking about the v6 and trying to avoid an ecu, bit different and run a carb. However how to run the ignition was my first challenge... Mitsubishi never made a carburated v6, what they did make however was a carburated 4 cylinder van... that shares a bolt paturn. the L300 2000 up year model to be exact... this got gutted and then was the hunt for a v6 cap that would not foul the fire wall... mazda had the solution and it was a mitsubishi part too so maybe it would share a roter shape?... nope slightly smaller rotor fitting nothing a file could not fix though. so now i have a huge cap, a rotor that firs the cap and now the shaft all i needed was a adapter and a reluctor... in comes the 3d printer. the base adapter took 5 attempts to get right for both hole placement and to aline evrything to keep it stright. the reluctor was a bit of a chalange seeing as i needed to add some metal for the pick up in the distributor to sence. took me 5 attempts to get the roller bearings (out of a nackered UJ)to be pick up (and not hit the internals). however its done... and tested. god damn works...on the bench using a honda civic coil
  3. don't know what they are called but I believe Mitsubishi use them? so scrap yard hunt if all else fails?
  4. another week another update... Woops I may have brought another GTO
  5. But I feel I need a bigger storage unit but there is only 3 cars and a heap of other spairs
  6. Well that looks better sadly I have to go back to work so into storage it goes. .. don't mind the civic there...
  7. And another side, yes this is the original sides going back in just an inch wider... a side and a top. Doesn't look so bad now .
  8. Now it looks like I have space time to cover it up so Noone see's anything
  9. Test fit for box... yeah a little snug time for more sparks
  10. Oops, don't worry it will be filled in... oh also the bell housing clears well
  11. Right it now fits... next part... the 6 speed. Well I have this loverly tunnel and that giant box... sorry car
  12. Stage 3.... the cutting starts. Quick work out how much needs to come off the sump and... gone (it's a dry sump now that's how it works right?)
  13. Step 2 place in engine.... damn sump hit fine remove sump and place in motor mounts work yay (yes I get bonus point for using all the straps) Looks the right height and positing lots of room for plumbing round the back too
  14. Right then bug xmas / new year work on car... firstly disclaimer if people don't like seeing cars meet a grinder don't keep looking Right so I carted the v6 and 6speed up to keri keri over Xmas. And got the GTO finally into the garage. And stage 1 remove engine. Done
  15. I may have one in storage... along with my 2 spare cars. sadly the current daily maybe parted out as the rust has got to that level so one from that and let me know if you need anything else
  16. So whats the next stage... well firstly, i need to actualy get the engine/ box to the GTO (ive been moking this up on a spair celeste shell). i know i need to at least notch the xmember to clear the sump. sadly will need to cut the tunnel a little to make way for the new 6speed but thats all part of the fun of this kind of swap, and before you all explode at me no this is not a perfect and clean GTO is been messed around with, arches on the back and fiber glass front wings. looks mean but needs to sound it too... and yes this is the first photo of the gto on this form Like i said she is not a looker but being solid and had a lot of rust repairs already done will help. as for interior I finally managed to track down all the little and odd parts I was missing, from one guy Quick question, dose anyone here know or can help ether track down a fiberglass bonnet or another original one as i now know the carbs wont fit below and i dont want to cut up the only one i have ... just in case
  17. right long time no update but got some stuff sorted. firstly mounts, one side is done the other needs a new motor side plate making but will be done soon. secondly, the fueling system finaly showed up... need to make it fit now thirdly i did find a gearbox... I don't know if it will survive yet but its a 6 speed twin overdrive out of a Great wall v200 so i got it for a good price then found it takes a nissan clutch that is the same diameter as the original (if by original i mean pajero 3L) cover and matches the flywheel after that it was road trip to my good engineer friend with an old pajero bell housing and the gearbox to get the joined (this time it was not a 40mm spacer refer to rover page if you want to know). As a side note for anyone with the same forethought and planing as me.. put the gearbox next to the original just once before this much work.... yes its huge but i will make it fit (and yes, that really was said to my girlfriend). and this is what it looks like all bolted together
  18. just got orders from up high. got to do extra hours
  19. Ok lots of parts sourcing been going on.. some needed others not so much however did get bored, yes that is an SC14 supercharger, and a weber. i'm not using ether at this stage ... also looking at moving so hopefully can start to make a big dent on the work
  20. And plans changed... plan er D2 (yes there have been that many) is to look at using a great wall gearbox as they are a toyota copy so lets see if china can make a good copy found one at this stage that is a 6 speed. I believe its a double over drive unit but will find out when i go look at it this weekend side note motor now has mounts( that are too wide), exhaust headers (that are too long) , a flywheel (bolts are too short) and a bellhousing (With the stater on the wrong side). Yep lots of plans but have found its smidge shorter and the same width as a 4g63 with turbo so looks like it will fit nicely in the hole. (I don't even have the GTO in Auckland)
  21. What to bring tonight? guess it will be civic or the ute as nothing else works/ is in Auckland
  22. Well if i come wont be in the celeste... some lovely bugger drove into it. at least they left a note.
