    whatever this is.

by the way, old steel wheels have the thingy cap over hub nut only, whereas these days plastic hub cap covers the whole wheel.

are those old style caps just push fit?

Mazda Familia or 323. Think the caps are a push fit from behind.

time for a  "delivery van" version stripped out seats/glass

werent the old escort/corolla "van" versions some kind of tax break back in the day

Escort was a real van.  Cortina wagon was available as a "van".  Mitsubishi Express was the seatless Sigma wagon, AA used them for their roadside assistance iirc.

yeah I have battled to the death on this. Lease companies are making money at your expense- Definitely not a free lunch, but I can understand why businesses take that route.

Opex v capex, a lot to do with cash flow and tax. Also makes it look like you're doing OK and you just give it all back when things go tits up and flip the bird to your creditors.

Either or. They're effectively the same car underneath.

As the grandson of serial BMC owners on both sides and having owned many myself I may be biased.

Part of the Allegro's bad rap was because mechanics assumed it was the same, but BL had changed the rear wheel bearings to a modern type, and when adjusted like the old type they failed and the wheel fell off.
