Yea two of the pipes only have one small tack on the flange and onto the secondary collector so they can be split in half super easy for welding

so no posts for a while as i have been a busy boy with this. Motor machinists finished my head cos they are a bunch of GCs. I needed to get the rocker angles all bang on so Jase / ekezetec being the good bastard he is machined me up some spacers. head! The other thing that jase sorted out for me was some offset cam bushes. I drilled the cam gear locator pin to 8mm so it could be adjusted, got the timing bang on then reset with this wee bush . i then decided i wanted some good tuned 4-2-1 extractors to work well and be designed for the cam im using. Cue NZs resident K series expert Sheldon Rush who took a look at my cam card and gave me primary and secondary lengths / diamaters / collector angles etc. So i spent like $220 on mandrel bends and steel, made a wee jig on my bench of critical points of contact using an old head and then proceeded to spend a long time making these. For extra cool points all cutting is done using a 4" grinder with a cutting disc. They all matched up real nice and are within about 5mm of equal length with each other. They will be going to tmac on sunday who is going to Tig them up for me. would really like to have them HPC coated but im to ghetto at the moment so it might happen at a later date. Probs not haha. When we had the car on the dyno last it made an extra 5 hp (huge when you only have 75hp) by having the bonnet open. this showed she was getting too much hot air especially with the bigger primera radiator being in front of the inlet so i made some heat sheilding out of that fancy alloy corflute heat sheild type shit. Peter weir kindly hooked me up with his stealth mappable ignition system out of his escort after it blew up. Im currently installing this and just loaded up the map he had on it, going to do some more research on dwell (in degrees here) but hopefully i can make some more power having a reliable advance curve and will be good to have a rev limiter also also have my 5.1:1 diff in, so just a few things to tick off the list and then she should be good to run the cam in and get it on the dyno, yeow

so i spent an evening on this thing last night. Modding the engine mount was far more involved that forums suggest as the engine mount on my donor dio motor was very different and more difficult than the ones all the build threads use. Anyway its all done now, just need to get some long 10mm bolts rather than the 8mm ones the nifty uses. next on the agenda was the new top shock mount. I have seen this done a few ways, all which look liek they could lead to imminent death when a fat cunt at 105kg likemyself hits speedbumps at 70kmph so i used two 3mm plates which will have a brace between them, i made 3 shock location holes so i can raise / lower slightly if need be. will get everything welded up and all mocked up then strip it all down again and strip and paint the frame. Going to run haggard plastics for now for max sleeper spec.

It is three nights (fri / sat / sun) and cost a meager $125. Pretty keen to pass this onto some other GC, hit my up if your keen. Cheers ears

Missing! Suzuki tailgate - Te Horo to WGTN
BLIZZO replied to Steelies's topic in Lower North Island Region
Fab one up using some big ute hilarious tailgate, a Big "TOYOTA" or "DODGE" or summin -
yea nah fuck that why would you make a scooter go fast and then make it handle even more shit than a stock one so you cant go fast. I want this thing for max 2 stroke nangs and adventures, there isnt going to be a stand so it can get max leanover scrapage

Springs?

sort on pondered that idea aye but think i have decided ill restore the plastics. I have stripped the body down anyway and will paint the frame / get the dio motor in and going and then have another think about the plastics, would be pretty look looking haggard and doing wheelies

so i wanted an old scooter that was fast, having an old scooter is easy but boring, and having a fast scooter can be fun but not my cup of tea, so i wanted old and fast. I love the simplicity and styling of the old honda nifty 50s, and they are super light, but also slow as fuck. So i picked up this actually tidy but sun faded nifty for the pricey sum of $80 Was cheap because motor is clagged but that doesnt bother me as its going in the skip anyway. Than after a visit to Big als i came away with this Dio AF18 motor, apparently a good runner as he pulled it out of the scoot, looks like its been under the sea the conversions for these are actually pretty simple, loom is very straight forward, a wee mod to join the two engine mounts together and then ad another shock mount on the frame of the scoot and presto. The even better thing is the nifty CDI works perfectly with the af18 and unlike to the Dio CDI its unrestricted, so no need for a chinga pinga racing CDI. I started pulling the dio motor down last night, inside its like brand new, the piston, rings and bore are mint, the genuine honda drivebelt looks like new, no wear on any of the pulleys / belt surfaces and even the rollers are free of flatspots. for now the only mods going on to the motor will be a performance variator and maybe some 9:1 final drive gears, should be good for 70kmph. Ill roll it like that for a while then look at going big all at once, polini corsa 72cc BBK, stage 6 intake, dellorto carb, decent exhaust etc.

well franken suit / FA/FZ hybrid which has now aptly been named the prius is coming along nicely. quick coat of red jam left over from the starlet made it look much better. Have painted the FZ wheels with some special hard wearing wheel paint. motor is all mounted up, since this photo i have now got it lower by using a small piece of pipe in place of the shock so its not hardtailed and as slammed as it can be as the carb is juuuuuust touching the frame now. for simplicity i have replaced the petcock with a manual fuel tap and got rid of the oil pump so will run premix, this also gives me a wee area to stash shit under the seat. just need to sort out the wiring and some cables, cover the seat and she will be good to go.

sparkle has a site where he was getting new tyres for like $17, motozone or summin, i have a bunch of front brake parts, you are welcome to have what you need
-
might have got 380 if you used the triumph head
-
did you pull the big end caps off and have a look? they all scoured to shit? just trying to thing if bearings could be done in-situ, probably a prick of a job like that though. Whip the motor out, whip the crank out, take crank to a machinists and it might need re facing on the bearing surfaces if its bad. then get your bearings (if they dont touch the crank it will be std bearings if it gets machined it will need oversize) and bang em in and torque it up. It would be a sensible idea to do your rear main seal while engine is out as its an easy job and i would also check your crank for end float when you put it back in and potentially get some oversized thrust washers. make sure you have a spin on adapter with a correct filter on it that has the anti drain back valve thingy. Neither of my triumph engines have knocked on start-up so if they are there is something going on.

At this stage im planning on doing all of them but will see how the rally budget goes with shaye being off work with our wee fulla. If you dont want to do all of them Tararua rd is def the best of the lot and I have heard amazing things about the fordell road also. Otaria is very short, i havnt done millstream yet but it too looks short. they are all good fun tho

yea 14s your pretty much fucked for second hand, you could probably get away with 13s jake, then you can get second hands from the escort lads, small 15s like the 185/65r15s come from front tuggers usually, the R2 fiesta guys, suzuki swifts etc or the steerers off AE86s and rx7s sorta thang. I run 13s and 15s, will use 15s when its super wet / sloppy for a slightly bigger footprint.

what size will you run russell? i can get good 185/65/15s pretty cheap from my father in law, and i would imagine he will have plenty of still good ones left after the silver fern this month.

yea man your on to something there, out of the box they have enough power, enough brakes etc, strong as an ox and like you say cheap as chips. Young Ari Pettigrew is a perfect example of how those beemers make great gravel cars. Get a cage chucked in it, you have a few months. Peter Weir who i think you may have spoken too has just caged his ex daily bmw to use for the same thing. You should def come do it as its an awesome series.

Lushness, are you planning many performance mods? I just picked up an AF18 to slam in my nifty, I don't want to spend a shit load so was thinking of just an Ali zorst, performance variator / weights and stiffer clutch springs, maybe an Ali CDI for all of the revs.

yea use escort rustle, or cage ze german

I'm probably good thanks guypie, I have the dio motor for the nifty now so now way it's getting another poo motor. These things are breeding, I have just acquired another 2 scoots, first one is a pretty lush yellow Honda melody deluxe (fs50) these were the upmarket model sold alongside the nifty, apparently a bit more grunt and they have a variated trans rather than fixed gear like the nifty. Seems to be plenty in the uk but bugger all here, have also been told we didn't get yellow ones her making this somewhat of a rarity. All it needed to get running was a good carb clean out and replaced the vacuum fuel tap with a manual one and boom she's all good. This things quite fun, little bit faster than an FA, I'm 100kg and it still does 45-50 with me on it. As part of the same deal it also came with a Yamaha passola of two speed goodness, it has a little bit of rust to fix on the floor board and no exhaust, the exhaust comes out the rear on these, I have a few spare front exhaust nifty exhausts so will hack one up to make it fit, I'll likely tidy this one up and sell it, might flick the melody off too to buy go fast bits for the dio

soooo, scootdawgs are life. Fa franken thing is still coming along nicely, update will come soon. But..... i have now also aquired this - have always liked the wee NQ50 / nifty 50, i picked this thing up super cheap, has a buggered motor, which does not faze me as i want to but a AF18/Dio motor in it, so if anyone knows of a dio being wrecked or a motor let me know. Pretty keen to leave it pretty sleeper spec stock, but maybe with a disc front end, some decent rear suspension and a 70cc kit and gearing so it goes hunnitz. wheelies and burnoutz ghee

What size were the tyres that wouldn bead? I have just ordered some 110/90r12's for my fz50 build, wondering if I have bitten off more than I can chew. They are similar in size to a 4.00x12
