I feel like I am becoming the zebradude of mopeds.
  3. What we can agree on is that anything made before November 1986 is definitely what we would call oldschool in NZ - this was the date when the government changed from black plates to white plates.its got black plates, XD
  4. I always liked them, the liftback is definitely not the most attractive though. But hey its got a 4age! Best engine ever! PM'd you about the pump, will drop the tank tomorrow night and see whats going on.
  5. Whoops forgot to put this here heres the build thread: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/51159-guypies-wifes-1986-corolla-gt-liftback-of-sentimentality/#entry1631965 Looking forward to getting this thing going!
  6. So got on to work on this today, I suspected the fuel pump was not doing its job. After googling around I learnt there is a jumper in the engine bay to turn the fuel pump on, I jumped this and listened out for it and heard nothing. I found the connector for it where the fuel sender is and checked for voltage, all ok. Lastly I took the top fuel hose off the fuel filter and attempted to make a petrol waterfall, and there was none. Emailing around all the wreckers now to try and find something before end of year! The bummer about it being the fuel pump is that on this car you have to remove the petrol tank to get to the pump, dangit! I sprayed a bit of ether down the throttle and it coughed and revved for a moment so hopefully that means there isn't anything else wrong. anywho heres a picture of the engine because no one likes a picless update
  7. Heres Pics of the new one: and home at last It does have the 4th minilite style wheel in the boot =)
  8. Discuss: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/51171-guypies-wifes-1986-corolla-gt-discussion/ When I met my wife some years ago now she was driving around in her first car, a maroon 1987 ee80 corolla hatchback with 320,000km on the clock and a leaky valve stem seal that would foul the #3 spark plug every 100km or so. The original corolla: She had a love/hate relationship with this car, it was quite simple and went like this: Is the car going at the moment? Yes: LOVE! no: HATE! Eventually a few years later we had to get rid of it as it was only worth about $300 and it needed rust repairs (I had no welder at the time) and seatbelts plus a few other things for a wof and was just not viable to fix for broke students. So off it went and every time since then... and I mean EVERY SINGLE time we saw one on the road she has pined over it and wanted her old one back. This came to a point when Heather saw Gnarlydude/Matt's lovely yellow EE80 (might be different number for sedan?) Corolla sedan, and after Dromageddon this year she decided she needed one back in her life. And who am I to stand in the way of getting a sweet new/old car?! So after trawling trademe and facebook we found a AE82 liftback that didnt exceed our budget, and was registered. We went over to Tauranga, inspected it and found it to be in reasonable shape in terms of bodyshell. It is currently not running. The story is that he fired it up after sitting for about 7 years and it spluttered out and wouldnt start again. My guess would be old fuel/clogged fuel filter/dead fuel pump, however I have not put any time into it yet so it could be anything. Will post up pics in a moment on the next post.
  9. I turned a bushing down to size once, used one of those yellow grater kinda things in the end as it just pushed out of the way of the tool.
  10. I really wanted to keep the tank down low so I used a old brass spray bottle, I will probably try to find a bigger tank to use in future as it only goes for about 10 laps before running out of fuel. I dont know how it can use so much fuel because its dead slow, top speed is about 45-50kph. I upholstered the seat in denim. Copper fuel lines are soldered to a steel support Fuel is pumped up to the tank at the top by the vacuum fuel pump. I found the pump made too much pressure to go straight to the carb it would fire up and flood the carburettor almost instantly. so it has a fuel return line with a mig jet soldered into the and drilled out to 2mm to regulate the pressure. it still makes quite a bit of pressure though, I cracked the solder joint on the little tank at the top when getting on it one day and it squirted fuel about a meter in the air wile it was running. I fixed the crack with polyester resin and fibreglass cause thats what I had at the time. you can see the repair in this picture after dromageddon 3 I decided it was too flexy so I put in gussets and the spring for the clutch was in the way, so I moved it to another location.
  11. Made a latch for the clutch to hold it in the disengaged position out of old photocopier parts, works mint too! Will go take some pictures of the overly complicated fuel system and post them up soon.
  12. Home made clutch lever hinge: Super simple drive train: Slowly starting to look like a thing. I dont have a pipe bender so all the bends are cut on an angle, welded and ground smooth slightly artsy fartsy picture: Made a pink exhaust pipe and intake manifold. Stole the nifty fifty carburettor off the briggs velobike. Also, MDF seat that slides onto the bit that holds the 2 sides together. I thought about using this seagull tank for petrol but decided it didnt look right:
  13. I thought I would make a build thread on this since I never did when I built it, maybe it will give someone that last little kick of motivation to get their velobike up and running for Dromageddon. Heres prettymuch what I started off with: after a bit of cutty weldy etc came up with this: front end not attached it that photo just there for mock up. the rear wheel mounts: one side of the frame flips open so you can remove the engine, I used some valves and valve guides from a mini 998 head that I rebuilt once upon a time for the hinges its held closed by this bolt more to come...
  14. Might be keen to get the motor regardless, have wanted one of thems villiers100cc for ages and never seen one for a fair price. Might pm you if I have any money left after I get back from auz.
  15. If you can be bothre d hauling it up to rotorua for dromeageddon I will take it. If you get a easier/local offer feel free to take that though Edit:too slow!
  16. this thread? http://retrorides.proboards.com/thread/70135?page=1 I have been reading through it. The problem is he goes "just do this" *magic happens* and a perfect panel is made. Then I try it "it said do this" *cock up happens* and the wobbliest panel known to man is born. And it probably took 2 hour to make. but I guess that's learning, and I'm still having fun so all is well. Can be a bit intimidating to start off with though.
  17. Cool, that looks good, I was thinking a different way but that looks better hahaha. Just about got the panel off now.
  18. I want to start on repairing this panel in the Oxford, but I am not quite sure how to go about removing the ends of the old panel. it looks like they were just butt welded to the upright bit along the edge. Chopping it out will be easy enough, just wanting to know the best way to fit the new steel. Its also to tell how it was done originally due to how corroded the remains are. Cheers Guy
  19. By the way, yes there is a large dent above where I have been doing this repair. Its probably just going to stay for now. Goal number 1 is get legal, worry about making it pretty later.
  20. Finished the welding and grinding on this quarter today. Started with the inner panel Ignore the writing on the panel, it wasnt 45 degree bend it was 90. Silly. Welded a little filler in here to attach the outer panel to: Made a step in the panel, working on making a joggler tool but need some time on the milling machine at a friends work so that will have to wait a while. Manually shrinking the end of the panel, shrinkers and strechers would be nice, but dont have any budget for that so will have to use hammer and chisel for now: and welded it in. Didn't get too much shrinkage on the welding. but the shrinkage from the grinding was horrific. I think I need to come up with a better technique. So I stuck some bog on it and called it quits for the day. But there wasn't enough to fill the gap so I will probably wire brush it all out again and get some more bog. Anyone have any recommendations on body filler brand/type?
  21. Half the serial is the same the other half is different. On the paper work it says its a blue sedan, so may have been a mix up somewhere. In talking to a compliance workshop they said that sometimes stuff got mixed up when the records changed to digital so could be that. Regardless I'm not sweating it too much, if I do the work to a good standard it shouldn't be a problem anyway.
  22. I think the rego may be for a different morrie, so going to do all repair to cert standard and if it doesnt come up when i go to get a wof then all is well. but if it gets pulled up and I need to re rego I hope to be covered. By the way if you happen to get a mgb gt in at zebra for parts let me know, I would like the front hubs, brakes and kingpins. because secret master plan of course.
  23. Tell me all about how I will never get a repair cert because X here Build thread: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/50304-guypies-1961-morris-oxford-traveller/#entry1595864
  24. Hit the RR 1/4 with the wire wheel down the bottom and found this: So I took off the bumper end and started cutting, and got to this before I got to solid metal: So i replaced the little corner piece: then the this bit: and one of these: and an outter skin: and a spot of primer: Constructive criticism please, this is my first attempt at rust repairs. I will be sending off all the pics to the repair cert guy once I have the last 2 panels in this section fitted, hopefully he will be happy with the koala tea of the work. the outer skin is a bit wibbly wobbly from heat distortion, might have to do shorter welds next time round. Hopefully will get this quater finished this weekend.
