  1. Going to try the CDI setup off the Lifan yamaha clone i got this week which will definitely work just need to see how i can configure the pick up to work. Have heard this engine will happily zing to 6000 rpm for short bursts and 5000rpm continuously wont hurt it either. My smaller twin loves revs i do have to remind myself not to give it to many as it has no governor and a cast iron flywheel.
  2. Acquired a new 37 tooth sprocket today for the back as the 31 tooth was too tall. Bodged together all my scraps of chain adjusted up and went for the first proper ride. So so so much better! 60k at 2500rpm it takes off like an absolute rocket from there no slip ,some clutch slip to get going from stationary its doable though wont hurt anything. Moving the wheel back has added 25kg more over the front wheel too so it brakes like a weapon as well now. Would actually call it not sketchy anymore even crawling isn't wandery anymore. Will add a Cvt soon and new chain but its good now to do the milk (almond) and bread run as often as possible. No pics for a change as nothing broke nor did i fall off (or think i would)
  3. For sale now been daily driver for six months has been rock solid apart from door locks playing up . If you would like to kick tyres message me has wof and rego.
  4. I have half a mini chopper and a v-twin........ all i need is half a quad and i have a trike been a pretty logical easy build. Will make it run and properly assess the situation as this would bolt into my drift quad but not so keen on 5 gears and my kids hitting triple digit speeds.
  5. So this thing will barely move with the sprocket that was on wheel and my original has to many holes to redrill. Will order one and go from there job almost done oh and got valve stem replaced already so it back on the ground again.
  6. Cool so this is a clone of a Yamaha xv250 virago the Yamaha bike wasn't too shit for a 250 and sounded good so this could be useful. Hmm decisions decisions will have to curb my enthusiasm though and finish some other shit first, or hope something with wheels drops in my lap missing a motor.
  7. Some info its a Lifan 250cc The ignition setup would be perfect for the turbo v-twin i have so may try swapping some parts around. The 5 speed box has my mind racing. Type 4 Stroke Twin cylinders, V-Twin, four stroke, air-cooled Displacement (c.c.) 248cc Bore x Stroke (mm) 49.0 x 66.0 Max HP 16.25 HP @ 8,000 rpm Max Torque 13 ftlbs @ 6,000 rpm Compression 10.0:1 Ignition system: CDI (Capacitive Discharge Ignition) Idle 1,300 rpm Starter Kick and Electric Clutch Manual Wet Multiple Plate Transmission Left foot gear-change, five-gear constant meshing Lubrication Pressure splash inner-outer scavenger rotor
  8. Well this just got placed in my boot its brand spanking new all the parts are still in boxes for my favourite price of nothing. I have no idea what I'll do with it yet suggestions welcome.
  9. Looks far less weak in the back too with a meaty tyre.
  10. basically lopped a big chunk off Truenotch's mini chopper and grafted it in to my back end. Will be slightly higher with air in tyre then before which will actually be great, this tyre is also not going to shit itself or the rim explode when giving it berries.
  11. So lots cutting welding ensued for 2 hours today it now looks so much better and even moved under its own power....... the gearing is about 200% too tall though will swap old sprocket back over should vastly improve it. Test ride not possible though as the valve stem is dry rotted no drama will get new one stuck in this week. I also cant upload images for some reason Instagram it is.
  12. Sparked this up yesterday to try see if i could disable the 3800rpm rev limit as its just annoying and will break stuff as its real course not a smooth soft limit. However i bunged the hose on the turbo from my shop vac and used it blow a blockage out after i sucked up a sock cleaning my car, Makes some pressure heaps of flow though not enough to crack the wastegate, getting some load on the engine more fuel and revs it will do some damage to the tyres for sure!
  13. Just happened to realize the handle bars on the quad were same tube size and 50mm lower little bit narrower which in hindsight suit it more. Will see how it rides as at low speed it takes a bit of manhanding mind you it doesn't do slow well with a centrifugal clutch so shouldn't be much of an issue. I also stripped out old cable rear brakes as i'll be going hydraulic now, found a nice piece of AN4 hose for a brake line so will see if i can get banjo to straight fitting adapters.
  14. Had some time time to mock this up today with the 10" wheel, stoked looks mint clears everything the chain even lines up perfectly. Will slide the engine forward a bit for some extra space around the oil filter but other than that that will only need to lop off the old fuel tank standoffs and weld on some slotted tabs to mount axle. Now on hunt for some bodywork to drape over it to hide the engine and make it look like a slammed vespa. Thinking of adding some wide low bars to lower the profile further to around hip height.
  15. Interested to see what you think of the cvt on a drift trike whether it hurts your control of the slide, suppose the brakes help reign it in?
  16. That inlet thing is bloody weird aye? Looks like a huge restriction. Was going to try make something a little funky and compact that enters on an angle to create some swirl without choking the flow to much. Good to see how that pipe loops back to pressurize the float chamber too, will be running a AN8 line back to the fuel tank to pressurize that too (with a flame trap) so the fuel pump always maintains 2psi pressure over the boost pressure.
  17. That is quite useful those photos have a plan for a "hat" to go on the inlet using a 90mm pipe cap with a bell mouth in it. Might need to re think the bell mouth if the su prefers a more random airflow. Im running an SU on my other vtwin and its quite frankly bliss over Mikuni's etc can tune it while riding naturally adpirated they like a good slightly restrictive airfilter like a ramflow, wonder if I'll see any tendencies like that running boost.
  18. @drftnmaz Im going to run blow through did think about draw through for about 5 minutes and changed my mind back have come up with a plan to get positive fuel pressure regardless of boost. this engine is worth as much as an Ls1 so im inclined to take my time and do everything properly. It'll probably only be used on the beach etc as long as it looks and sounds mental thats all i really care about, however everything will need to work reliably or it'll piss me off. At least blowthrough if the turbo gives me grief i can remove it and it'll still run fine.
  19. And my odd size 1 1/8" thing arrived so can finally start making the drive line. Time to get acquainted with a lathe again.
  20. So this thing has been under a sheet since lockdown ended...... well now i have some parts and a little time ive finally finished converting the turbo to run on this engine. Fitted up the aliexpress "cosworth" wastegate actuator which needed some tweaks to get the arm working right. Also took compressor cover off and drilled and tapped a boost signal port into it. For first time in a very long time it now has every single bolt back in it. Tick job done. Threw factory carb back on and fired her up for first time in ages and made subaru ish spooly noises for my long suffering neighbours.
  21. You could buy (or make) an english wheel and make the body work and drape it over a modern chassis Labour intensive but not beyond your skillset
  22. Scooters are going to be the thing that takes over from drift trikes? Each one getting slightly more extreme or detailed.
  23. Muncie

    Su carbs

I whip the plungers out put a straight edge across the brass jet the needle lives in set it flush for your base setting it should run ok as a base to tune from. Vids pretty long but very detailed pour a scotch find a comfortable chair.... I put SUs on everything they look cool on anything and actually work very well when setup and tuned right. Ignition issues will mess up your results big time make sure everything is perfect there.
  24. Man you're gonna be jamming scooters in that kids play house by September.... i wholeheartedly applaud your choices Just a suggestion
