Daves new school holden shambles. (Is this project oldschool yet?)
Muncie replied to Muncie's topic in Other Projects
Back on track again everything that needs to go back in engine bay is there wiring has been started everything accounted for. A v6 engine bay is normally quite empty looking this one's bloody packed! Bonnet shuts exhaust now misses the air-conditioning components phew taken long enough. Hotside needs to come out again for some welding after re jigging the up pipe but that's a 5 minute job now.- 744 replies

Well first cock-up found.... up pipe from cross over doesn't fit needs a zig zag easy fix I just didn't account for the depth of engine bay when making on dummy block Zach stripped the exhaust manifold off for me and made a start on wiring for too surprisingly once unwrapped all but a few wires reached the drivers side where airflow meter and throttle body is.- 744 replies

The size of the hotside assembly off the engine is quite considerable and looks mental when you pick it up and turn it around to check things out. I'm very happy with my driveway cobbling together on this occasion- 744 replies

Had to re engineer the throttle cable bracket so it clears the inlet pipe made that work with the grinder that's been in naughty corner after bumper support....... Spritz of paint it bolted on and the cables even work in their new position although very long I think I can hide this by sending them under manifold.- 744 replies

Turned key on this morning primed fuel system amazing no leaks! Continued on with the inlet manifold flip managed to get that all squared away of course a few things no longer fit like the lid for the plenum. A few bolts no longer lined up some did its seen a lot of welding. A bit of filing drilling and slotting of some holes and it all went together.- 744 replies

This drag day It'll be fast or legal probably not both or broken. I'm surprised it's still alive it's done countless rips down a runway drag passes and road trips gravel drifts and alot of that was done running on kerosene It's earned its keep and some upgrades. Looking forward to some roll racing so I dont scatter the 4L60E all over track.- 744 replies

@Roman I've reached out to an Ozzie group on Facebook and a guy is running same size setup behind the bar requires some bends fitted but that's easy in scheme of things. It's just occurring to me as the RTV on my intake is setting I need to weld a AN6 fitting on my fuel rail for the new regulator..... shit. Pushing through analysis paralysis and fucking things up to see what the problems are surprisingly is some times an effective way of nutting things out.- 744 replies

Here you can see I now have throttle body facing other side of engine bay this may or may not create a whole pile of new problems like wiring and throttle cables fuck it I will cross that bridge another day for now onwards and (Possibly) upwards.- 744 replies

So ignoring the elephant that is my Intercooler for now...... I ripped my happy running car to bits and started to fit parts from the internet, reverse plenum I kind of redid and my 850cc injectors- 744 replies

I've fucked around with gas shielded Flux core did around 90 metres worth on a big meatworks shutdown then had the thankless job of laying hard face on top. By middle of job I was as good as the old timers. Been experimenting with 8% co2 argon mix on tig lately mainly because a free G bottle is worth a squirt, no real ill effects thought it would kill the tungsten not really any different though im back about 5 amps from normal settings. Saving my pure argon for the stuff that needs it.

I might just go small less problems, this cooler came as part of the Tony's Turbo Garage kit i bought and chopped up. Can save this setup for non road events.

It blocks the top 120mm of cooler and is a big square tube... quite annoying

Second cock-up of my build picked up by @cletus ive chopped my bumper support and that was silly. What are my options? If i move the intercooler behind it the top of intercooler will be blocked and all of my air conditioning will be in way. I can fit a smaller intercooler and just suck it up and see if it limits air temps. Can I leave the intercooler where it sits now and fabricate a replacement bumper bar from tube that uses the intercooler as the collapsible section? Can get Dave Bray chassis shop to help out here (my preferred option) What's going to please a certifier more? It will see the track but I don't want it getting there on a trailer.

It will fit behind the bar if i remove the air-conditioning which I've spent quite a bit of extra work already trying not to do. I did try leaning it but would need to be on such an angle it wouldn't work and block airflow for radiator. Catch 22 there's definitely a way so many others have done it already.- 744 replies

Well that's black and white been a while since I read the LVVTA bible...... Current plan is obtain a bumper beam not mess with it and sneak a less tall intercooler under it same specs just not as tall can carry on as is for now get it running and worry about this later. As pipework locations will be same. Got lots to fabricate intercooler pipework a battery to move and wiring for my reversed inlet manifold to do. @cletus I take it putting intercooler pipes through panelwork in engine bay is a no can do now? Eg coming through where airbox was and battery. I can try squeeze it between radiator but would rather not.- 744 replies

Well fuck.... lucky I kept the piece I cut out. I'll work on moving it back further. Could I get a replacement fabricated Or its just new car stuff that can't be messed with? I won't lose sleep tonight over cutting a removable part as a smaller intercooler is always an option. Thanks for heads up.- 744 replies

Broke out the angle grinder and created a space for the intercooler tried to be conservative left some structure in it so it's not all floppy 2x 8mm bolts and the intercooler is hanging securely off it. Now I can start making intercooler pipes and fitting up the turbo setup.- 744 replies

Took this to Frankton Thunder this year and to KFC once..... I reckon it's safe to pull off road now and make a start on the final push. Hoo roo bumper! I need an intercooler in here. Bumper support is obviously in way and power steering cooler just behind it. A bit of force moved the power steering cooler and its bracket easily enough.- 744 replies

Thought I had crossover pipe all sorted so did wee trial fit today found it ends up straight into sway bar mount. Fuck it re do it all. Turned out nice had a good few hours asphyxiating my self with argon loved every minute. Engine is now sitting at the perfect angle I can see it in garage from dinner table.- 744 replies

Thanks I'll see where it sits in car as closer to firewall = shorter wiring back to controller and ecu. Wonder if turbulence from wastegate will be an issue.

Sorry to Semi-hijack where would be the best place to fit the sensor on a turbo downpipe? Bosch type not 100% what ive got yet. Pipe goes straight down from the blue cap.
