  1. How does a compliance dude know if a car is equipped with a functioning electronic stability control system, which is supposed to be mandatory? Cheers
  2. Thanks boss - would you say masking tape good for it or something else better? cheers Also, does it matter if any of the identifying part marking etc gets obliterated?
  3. say, with minor surface rust on shocks, can I just media blast and paint the shock body? do i mask the chromey thingy rod with masking tape or something and give it a blast? cheers
  4. that sounds bogus man but maybe easier to pull it out than argue about it. it's like the time my car got failed for "excessive" emergency foot brake pedal travel. it didn't matter that it was within the manufacturer's specification.
  5. probably too late for you as it's agains the record but can you just wind the window right down and pull fuse - window winder operation is not wof requirement, is it? anyway, do they have some sort of measuring device to check VLT?
  6. If it's at the buckle end and integral to the seat then I'm pretty much out of luck eh?
  7. what do people do with seat belt pre-tensioners when putting aftermarket seats?
  8. So what's the deal with WOF inspection up to 2 weeks prior to expiry is allowed without bringing forward the next expiry date in case of pass? I don't see the point of it???
  9. So if a cop pulls me over and runs WOF check, it should be still cool then? What about insurance cover? Cheers
  10. If I take a car for WOF well before its expiry and it fails, is the car legal or not?
  11. I'm fckd then - I have no interior padding of any sorts whatsoever....
  12. Yeah I've seen plenty of people have fully opaque overlay but VIRM does say it has to be transparent but then later on it says print should be no lower than 100mm from the top edge so they seem kinda contradictory to me. The other one was about where the OE visor line is from outside or inside - that was a bit of a dumb question but I was trying to understand the intent of that particular rule.
  13. come on guys - despite the dopey looks, they are quite handy... anyway - any opinions on my original questions?
  14. Hi, I want to put anti-glare overlay/sticker at the top of the windscreen - I have this thing and also a black signwriter sticker. Just looking at VIRM regarding windscreen anti-glare overlay and this is what it says verbatim. the overlay is transparent, and the overlay does not extend below the bottom edge of the vehicle’s OE sun visors when they are folded down as far as possible towards the windscreen, and the overlay does not contain print below a line that is 100 mm below and parallel to the top edge of the windscreen (Note 4). Note 4 Any OE opaque edging (usually black) is not considered part of the windscreen when determining the boundaries of the CVA, or the areas permitted for stickers, print on an anti-glare band, or radio antennae. Regarding the second bullet point, I take it it's looking at the windscreen from outside, perpendicular to the windscreen, as opposed to looking out, while sitting in the driver's seat? I ask this because when the sun visor is fully folded down, there is usually a gap between the windscreen and the visor, giving you more sun blocking than the overlay matched to the sun visor from the outside. I'm guessing the intent of the rule is to ensure the visibility with the overlay is no worse than the OE setup. With regards to the bullet point 3, it says overlay print is ok as long as it's within 100mm from the top edge (or from the lower edge of the OE opaque edging, if applicable?) - can it be opaque? If so, what stops one from putting on a full opaque overlay with 100mm width? Seems like The bullet points 1 & 3 are a bit contradictory or am I reading too much into it? Any clarification on this would be appreciated. Cheers.
  15. Ok thanks - in regards to your previous comments about a reputable shop getting it done, is it still a goer and do you know how they modify it? Cheers.
  16. Yes the hobby car manual (which I presume is superseded by ccm?) states that that internal components within a rack and pinion steering assy fitted to a LVV must not incorporate any welding but the previous discussion on this thread appears that power steering delete is allowed if done (I don't know if this involves) by a reputable shop. Regardless, if NDT shows no defect, shouldn't it be good (in theory, at least)?
  17. Hi @cletus I've read through the thread and there were a few queries regarding power steering delete ages ago. The answers then were: either - non-power steering equivalent fitted or - rack modified by a reputable place Would it be certable if NDT shows a welded pinion to be good even if it is done by other than a reputable place, i.e. a competent welder? If so, what NDT would be required - FPI crack check? X-ray for porosity? I ask this because I had a pinion welded up a while ago (which was well before I read up on this thread) based on what is supposedly a common mod amongst MX5 crowds overseas. Here are a couple of photos for reference. Thanks in advance.
  18. can I put a novelty plate as well as the proper plate? something that is so obvious not to be mistaken as the real thing, like this. https://www.customjapaneseplates.com/
  19. Too late now as I took it off without even thinking about it at the time - The frame number is still legible and I still have the original vin plate. It's just hardware store pop rivets holding it on, isn't it? Most importantly, will anyone ever know and will I get hassles from wof inspectors
  20. I took off the VIN plate to blast & electroplate my bike frame - can I just rivet it back on? cheers
  21. All in good time... But I think we can move on from this topic for now - I reckon it'll be legal with some minor modifications...
  22. I suppose they need to be diffused somehow reading virm, whereas headlamps don't. As long as t/l is red in colour and diffused so it radiates as opposed to cast beam of light and fry someone else's eyeballs it should be right? I don't know man, LED tails annoy the hell out of me, to be honest, way too bright for what they are designed for. Yet they are legal. So are stupid animated LED indicator lamps.
  23. yeah round types... why would I? hence the "dumb question" disclaimer
