  1. Finished up the transmission mount, could still use a little but of tidying up but pretty happy with it Was hoping to finish up the middle crossmember thing over the exhaust pipes tonight but my shithouse ryobi drill died I think what was left of the brushes spat out the side and hit my hand but probably expected to much using this bigarse drill bit in this little chinese piece of crap
  2. Whats that trans off? Mines the factory 30-42le similar to the factory uz and 2j auto boxes but have herd rumours that the v12 one has has bigger/more clutch packs to handle the tourque. Not a rumour tho is that the v12 cuts 4 cylinders between gearchanges to make it smoother and reduce load This stops the clutch packs disingaging at all so theres no chance of them wearing out but is does put a big shock loading on the rest of the box and would probably be pretty rough to drive Did a quick google search for controllers and 5 different comanies show up without even trying so im guessing itll be easy enougn to get something that works , at what price i dont know On a side not 04 onwards toyota centurys come out with a 6speed, father in laws got a LS430 lexus about 06 model i think and its got a 6 speed so my bet is I could get a 6 speed auto for cheap off someone thats got a 3uz half cut and itd bolt strait on no worries
  3. Just going with the factory auto for now as im tryna keep to a budget. Theres quite a few behind big hp supras with minimal mods and they seem to hold up to the punishment Guess ill have to get a controller for it tho, bout $800 for one thats suitible Ive seen 3 other manual conversions on these now and theyve all spent about 6k to do it Bell housing/adaptor plate, Flywheel, clutch and hydraulic release bearing and buying a gearbox and as yet i havnt seen any of them going so hard to tell how well there setups going to work
  4. Hes in Timaru, cars in Whakatane Its just resting at the moment due to other projects, I think he was talking 1uz but I expect itl be a while before he gets onto that
  5. Thats my younger brothers car, brought him a new front end over for it from aus last time i was there cause i was shifting all my stuff back to nz and had spare space in the container Has L series nissan motor at the moment , came out of the bush up ruatoki valley i think or somewhere rough as like that That chevy truck in the background is his too and hes got a mid 60s rambler classic thats on bags and sits on the ground I keep hounding him to sell me the ms51 but hes not keen
  6. Pulled the motor out again and turned the chassis upside down to get started on the welding on the bottom Had cut the bottom off the chassis rails and welded in plates with captive nuts that the body is going to bolt to instead of having heaps of real long bolts that go right through the chassis Started boxing the rails back in with a false bottom in them so i can put the plumbing fuel, airlines inside the chassis rails Supplies showed up in the form of 2 18" coby mufflers (dunno bout bright orange) and 2 mandrel bent combination things so spent most of yesterday giving myself a headache tryna get the exhaust to fit Main problem being im running 2 3inch pipes and the chassis is only 100mm high so its not easy to get clearance around things and i dont want it hanging out the bottom if i can help it and i especially dont want it banging on things and making a noise when im driviing New mounting plates for the body inside the chassis rail Beginnings of boxing in the chassis Trickiest part of the exhaust, once ive got one side sorted the other side should be a breeze shortened up the input shaft of the steering rack too by building up the diametre with weld and then machineing down
  7. Awesome, any chance of some pics of that project? Just tryna get my airride suspension stuff sorted from the states but having a few differculties as the shocks are on back order and i dont think there going to be ready in time for the container that my dads got coming in so im a bit bummed about that
  8. Had a busy day getting bits and pieces for the car, Made up the adaptor plate to hold the caliper onto the stub axle and pretty happy with how it came out , Made up a cardboard pattern of what i wanted it to look like then just copied it onto a piece of 10mm plate and alot of grinding later, success Wish i had a drill press to make sure the holes were drilled and tapped strait but i guess clamping it to the chassis and drilling by hand will have to do Total cost of brake conversion $1 for some bolts so stoked about that Also went into the engineers in town to buy a tap to thread the mounting holes for the driveshaft hanger bearing but they wanted 40$ for it so just brought some other bolts that i already had a tap for
  9. So got this old beater lathe going and cracked into some of the machineing jobs ive been putting off Used a hq holden disk/hub and cut the centre out of it and machined the outside of it down so it would fit inside the toyota century disk Cut the mounting tab things off the stub axle to get the caliper in far enough so have to redrill some new mounting holes but looks like it should all work
  10. The turbo manifolds are a long way from finished, just cut the flanges off the 2j mainfolds and welded the 1gz flanges on , still need to die girind heeps out of them and put some steam pipe bends on the end to fiinish them up, I just welded up enough to prove to myself that i could get it all to fit for a start Got an old lathe the other day which used to be my grandads so been flat out in the shed machineing up parts thats have been backing up Got the big brake conversion mocked up now and it looks like it should work a treat. Used hq stub axles and hubs, machined the disk off and machined the inside out of the toyota century disk so it all slots together with the right offset for the calipers , still have to make up some sort of plate to mount the caliper to the stub axle
  11. Haha was in Wanganui today and saw an old lady, at least 70 get out of her white twin carb honda shuttle Just wanna get the body mounted for a start, worry about paint (if any) after that Roof needs replacing cause its a but bent and wavy so might as well give it a but of a top chop while at it want to keep the bumpers and chome
  12. Made up bracket to mount the driveshaft hanger bearing on Just need to get the right tap so i can drill and thread the mounting holes now Parents came visiting over easter and dropped off my lathe Pitty it had to be dismantled to make it lighter to shift so now im faced with the job of figuring out where all the bits go, most of its self explanetory but some of its got me scratching my head, this things real old ,if i didnt know better id say noah used it to build the arc but it still seems to do an alright job
  13. Went on a mad mission yesterday round palmy north while missus was shopping looking for some thick walled tube from every scrap dealer i could find in the yellow pages. Was about to give up when after a wrong turn i ended up some back alley that had a real old school engineering shop up the back of it and the boss guy there was kind enough to give me a length of old hydraulic cylinder that was exactly what i was after Cut this up into rings that are going through my chassis rails for the exhaust to go through has a 4"id so 3"" exhaust should fit sweet my only concern is that the metal the rams made of is real hard or high tensile , I hope dosnt crack around where ive welded it one down 5 to go
  14. This is how not to shorten a driveshaft Should be true enough to make up the hanger bearing bracket thing tho
  15. Yea, it was the p plate on the other old chev hotrod i had, cant make the nats unfortunately but wanna head up that way soon to pick up my body shell and a lathe ive got laying round Still got the dato and another flogged old 240z with a rb in it, still needs a wee but of work tho viewtopic.php?f=17&t=32720 viewtopic.php?f=17&t=32722
  16. Living in taranaki farming of all things, finaly got all my projects back home after them being spread out all round the globe. Working on this at the moment viewtopic.php?f=17&t=32721 Have to catch up next time im back
  17. Hey Thomas , just stumbled onto this, wheels looking good, Ray here from whk , what you up to these days
  18. Im at a but of a crossroad as to where this going at the moment. Its getting airbags so its gunna be low but tossing up on wheel choice, I really like the traditional bigs and littles 15*10s and 14*8s which is what i had on my last chev and it really looked the part, great stance, but if i go that route i cant my big brakes in there which i think is a must when you start making decent hp and weigh the better part of 2 tonnes
  19. just put up some photos of the body shell taken a few days before it was shipped to nz from the states Got carted interstate from one of the middle us states, not sure which on but came off a sioux indian reservation on closer inspection of the shell i think its been rolled on its side or more likely had something land on one corner of the roof as its quite buckled fortunatly i have a spare roof buts thats one job im really not looking forward to
  20. Photos taken in bakersfield california just before shipping , front end was taken off to make it smaller for shipping the body came from a sioux indian resivation and come complete with various bullet holes, cowboys and indians?
  21. So got stuck in the arvo and made up bracketry to hold the front nose cone to the chassis
  22. viewtopic.php?f=17&t=32721 Turbos are 2j, Want to run the sequential setup but thats alot of plumbing to fit in a small hole , Leaving the engine as is and if it breaks it breaks, I think its about 11:1compression so cant put much boost up it just about to order some shockwave airbags out of the states for it. Ill see what I can do about the photos cause those really do suck being so small
  23. another project i should really get round to doing something with sort of stalled, have mounted rb30det and 5 speed but is a long way off running, got r200 lsd for it, not mounted yet, have moulded in flairs and done heeps of body work as was a complete basket case when i got it, rust and dents in all panels
  24. Discussion thread > viewtopic.php?f=18&t=32726 long way to go yet but have got the frame boxed out and engine and trans mounted with turbos mounted, had to do alot of cutting on mocked up firewall to get engine to fit, using toyota century rear end and brakes all round, making up tubular suspension arms , top ones done only so far
