HighLUX
Been keen to own another one of these after having the roadrunner dirt track trump at Nats this year so when this popped up on trademe was local and looking pretty good I grabbed it sight unseen. My old mans first job was a cabinet makers apprenticeship in Nelson making the wood trim bits for the doors/plus other delightful cars like Austin Princesses so there is a family connection to BL junk Im the 4th owner its been a Tauranga car all its life but been shed stored for the last 15 years with reg on hold which is a bonus. The paint has the perfect amount of patina on and the rust it has seems surface only so keen to seal it some how to preserve the condition of it. Interior is tidy as bar the usual dash crack and the glove box lid panel delaminating, its got a sweet old panasonic head unit and speakers in the doors Iv got these reco'd PYE speakers to sit on the parcel tray and a nice tacho to mount in the dash where the clock is
HighLUX
The weekend has been dedicated to bringing it back to life from its 15 year hibernation It has 20l of stink old green as fuck petrol so drained that out and the clutch had run dry so put some fluid through that and it bled up fine. Took the plugs out and got it turning over to build up oil pressure which all went to plan after finding out its push button start due to the ignition barrel being chooched because Lucas blue smoke technology. Seems like the clutch disk is fused to the flywheel because it will still wind forward on the starter motor in gear with the clutch pedal in. Put in some fresh gas and got it to the point of the engine trying to fire only to discover the Strombergs are all leaky and gunked up with old petrol so will get those off this week to clean out. Plan is to get it running happy then take for a wof and see what it fails on, once legal I need to find some sweet wheel and give the spring a makita haircut then enjoy a class executive motoring that only British Leyland could offer
