Popular Post The Dude
Awww for the love of God why do I do this to myself? Sometime ago an extremely weird old dude posted up some parts for a GT6 for sale on the Tard, in the background there was this odd looking thing I couldn't identify, if I don't know what it is, immediately I want to own it. I could have it for free he said, that's my kinda price so I agreed. "It's on Waiheke" he said, ok no worries! "I want the engine, box and suspension" he said, Ok fair enough. Some months passed. Do you still want the body, this random old dude asked, "What I said surprised ?" "The GT6!" "Oh the one on Waiheke?" "Yes., I'll just need to pull off some bits, and you can have it" Now being the smart cookie I am, I realised he couldn't sell the bits, so I offered to buy them off him, I asked him how much complete? he said $1850 Oh Ok I replied I'll come and take a look, he assured me he'd been driving it around the island not so long ago. Me and Neil thought we'd pop over and take a look before I handed over any money, thank god we did. There were no wheels, the engine was out and sitting in front of the car, one of the doors had fallen off, and honestly, it was a piece of crap, and totally unmoveable! Flat on the deck, no where to jack it up, and for some reason it weighs a squillion tons so we couldn't lift it!!!!! Obviously I bought it.
The Dude
Just a little more to the story. When we went to Waiheke, We had two hours to find the parts (all spread throughout an acre of bush) , put the steering together, assemble the nuts and bolts from the gravel floor storage system, extracate the car from a Mosquito infested bush, rebuild some brakes and hubs, find some wheels and tyres from the piles of crap he had there, and dig out a Triumph Herald that had been there for at least 30 years to get some wheel nuts. On top of this I had to deal with an insane dude, who gave me more and more expensive prices for parts I needed to get it rolling. We failed to make the Ferry spectacularly. and now I have to get it towed onto the Ferry and picked up by tow truck on the other side. Arrrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhh, Why is it that all the interesting cars are owned by Nutters!!!!!! p.s he had some cool 1940's Bedford trucks there if any of you guys would like to get into some serious, mid level Heavy Metal???
